Etika’s entire liked video playlist, updated as of June 19,2019. As you all know, after a channel is inactive for a long time, YouTube automatically sets the liked playlist to private, and over the past few months, I’ve seen hundreds of curious fans in this subreddit of Etika wonder and try to remember what Etika had in his playlist, since we all had access to it when he was gone, up until I believe August of 2019, when YouTube finally set it to private. These videos gave us clues to what he was feeling and the mindset he was in at the time. So I decided to do some digging around and viewing the source code of the playlist link that we luckily still had saved and read through the entire page of code, and I finally compiled a list of every single video that he had in his playlist, from the beginning of the TR1Iceman channel (Aug 16, 2006), all the way to his final liked video (Jun 19, 2019). Enjoy! :)

Arnd stretched her legs in the back of T'aro's extravagantly roomy limousine, triple-checking her bag to make sure she had everything she needed. T'aro sat opposite her, indulging his appetite for top shelf lija sourced from orchards in the verdant highlands beyond the great plains of X'rtan. At the wheel was K'ul, deftly navigating the air far above the asphalt roads of Ta'X'rtana. The dense throng of the city's center was not long behind them when the sun glowed golden as it began its afternoon descent toward the sparkling sea, and towering pillars of stone, glass, and metal let scant views of the vessel-thick waters beyond peek between them. Finally, at what many consider the beginning of Ta'X'rtana's outskirts, Arnd asked K'ul to stop by a homely, if modern abode sandwiched between an apartment complex and a corner store frequented by youths on their way to school.
Arnd stepped out of the vehicle and onto the familiar pavement, her eyes tracing along every familiar crack in the stone beneath her feet. She stepped past the thin front garden, populated by low-maintenance plants, and made her way up the smooth wooden steps onto the deck. She shortly produced her key from her bag and entered her house, harshly, but not too harshly reminding herself not to linger.
The door opened to a wide lounge room furnished with a pair of large plush sofas, a short table housing many unread magazines, and a television that Arnd had meant to replace for months now, but worked wonders as a conversation piece for the rare occasions where guests were over. An orderly, if rarely used kitchen lay past the living room, separated by an artistic wooden partition. Over on the right wall was a sliding glass door to the miniscule paved space wrapping around the house that she hesitantly called a backyard, situated close by a staircase, which Arnd immediately made for, trying to keep her mind focused on the task at hand.
Once on the landing, Arnd looked directly ahead to a door whose handle was worn with heavy use. With reluctance, she afforded herself a look inside. What was once a guest bedroom had been converted into a miniature cinema, decorated in all the paraphernalia to set the mood, and complete with sound system; a top-of-the-line television; plush velvety seating; and even a mini fridge. Immediately upon looking into the room, memories of decades past flooded her head, and she took a moment to bask in the past.
She continued on, passing a broom closet and the upstairs bathroom until finally she came upon the upstairs master bedroom. Her bedroom. The blinds covering the glass wall leading out to a small balcony softened the ever-reddening sunlight into a warm glow that bathed the room in a rich orange. A bed large enough to accommodate Arnd's frequent tossings and turnings sat as the center of the right wall, directly in front of the door, and beside it was a dresser with an in-built lamp that was just strong enough not to hurt the eyes at night. A family portrait was hung on the opposite wall, next to a large mirror on a desk that Arnd used every day to double check she looked okay one last time before leaving for work. Finally, opposite the window, was a double wide wardrobe; Arnd opened it to see clothing dating from last week all the way back to her childhood, she never had the motivation to throw anything away unless it was sufficiently ripped. On the floor of the wardrobe sat a filing cabinet that was far too large for the amount of paperwork that Arnd actually brought home with her. She quickly flipped through the sheafs of paper until she came across a thick document in a folder emblazoned with the X'rtan Freight logo. She stared at the contract a few long seconds before leaving; she knew that the longer she stuck around, the harder it would be to leave.

From the well-lit tunnel running through the base of Ta'X'rtana, the limousine emerged into the mountain's shadow, and closed in on X'rtan Freight's regional hangar standing strong against the emptiness of the land around it. Past the local shipping vehicles parked in front of the building and under the shade of the parking lot, K'ul found a prime parking spot on the third floor. Arnd began climbing out.
<"Remember,"> began T'aro.
<"Keep it quick, I know."> replied Arnd exasperatedly. She shut the door and stepped into a nearby elevator to the ground floor; she shut her eyes and tried not to shake.
The elevator opened to the wide foyer. Afternoon sunlight played off the glass bannisters of the walkways above, and the sound of subdued chatter and footsteps filled the air with a relaxed, if formal atmosphere. Looking about at the walls decorated in company slogans and framed awards, Arnd felt herself growing ever more nostalgic in the knowledge that her time here was about to come to an end. She walked along the smooth floor, feeling the ever-polished stone floor beneath her feet as she did at the age of 24, and her grip on her bag tightened.
The front desk was staffed by a chipper young woman, typing away at her computer; she looked happy to be there. Arnd approached and got her attention.
<"Welcome to X'rtan Freight! How may I help you?"> She sounded as young as she looked.
<"I'm here for a formal dismissal."> Arnd replied, showing the girl her captain's badge.
Immediately the girl's tone darkened, taken aback somewhat. <"Oh, okay. Please take a seat and someone will be with you shortly.">
Arnd took her seat at a bench near the desk, and closed her eyes to try and tried to tune out the environment around her. She could remember the first time she walked up to that counter; she was shorter then, more starry-eyed, she didn't know what her decision to sign up would lead her to or how it would all end. Those days weren't much simpler, but they were simpler, when she was young and dumb and didn't know what life was really like. Looking back, she would have done a lot of things differently if she could: try and convince her uncle and father to stay, focus more on her studies, find a better boyfriend, but signing up for X'rtan Freight? She would never regret that, even for all the hardship it brought her. She shook, reminiscing on her centrifuge training and the acquaintances she made in the academy; she recalled her first takeoff, and the first time she looked out to see Kerc-en glowing beneath her; she looked back on all the countless hours she spent fixing damage to the ship both inside and out, and the workings of the machines she used to do it; she remembered climbing the ranks to captain, proud of every step she took, and bathing in the praise of her superiors and juniors alike. Her eyes began to dampen, and she realized that there was no escaping how she felt about this.
<"Captain Kolr."> spoke a familiar, commanding voice.
The voice snapped Arnd out of her trance, and she looked up. A short, solidly-built man stood beside the desk with a presence that demanded attention and respect in spite of the ease with which he exuded it; he was dressed in garb befitting his position, with a column of badges denoting the positions he earned on his way to the top. He looked on Arnd with a somber fondness.
<"Chief Urtakr!"> Arnd exclaimed, standing to attention and saluting.
<"At ease, Captain."> Arnd complied. <"With me, please.">
Up a lift to the top floor of the facility, and past hallways warmly lit with orange sunlight, Arnd and Urtakr arrived in his formally decorated office, and the pair sat down at the Chief's desk. The two looked at each other for a long and silent while, taking in the moment. Urtakr sighed deeply. <"I couldn't believe it when I got the message from the higher ups either. After all you've done, this is how it ends. I wish that this could have gone down differently, Captain.">
<"Um, with all due respect, Chief, I'm not a captain anymore.">
<"Until I dismiss you, you are a captain; and I won't hear anyone, not even you, saying otherwise."> Arnd gave a weak smile before Urtakr continued. <"I don't know what they think they're doing firing you, you've been a fantastic employee, ever since you signed up. I would be offering to take you back right now if it weren't for a company mandated grace period, but trust me when I say that the offer remains open, if slim after this whole debacle.">
<"Thank you, Chief.">
Urtakr breathed heavily, and his expression darkened. <"Captain, your contract, please.">
<"N-"> Arnd caught herself before she made a fool of herself, and slid her contract across the desk. Urtakr opened the file and slowly leafed through the file. He pulled out a stamp, and hesitantly scorched a seal onto the final page, officially ending Arnd's employment at X'rtan Freight. The pair let the moment sink in with no shortage of subdued anguish.
Finally, Urtakr stood up. <"Stand up, Captain."> Biting back every rebuttal that came to mind, Arnd complied. The pair faced each other, and Urtakr began. <"Captain Arnd Kolr, it brings me no shortage of pain to perform this duty. Your time with this company has been one of note, with not a single mark against your work for the past thirty two years. In training and cadetship, your eagerness to learn was showcased in your impressive growth and quality of both procedure and results. You bounced between positions, slowly making your way to the top with distinction, professionalism, and exemplary work ethic. As captain, though it was your first and thus far only assignment in the position, you not only directed your crew through a deadly threat, you completed your assignment and, by bringing home an extraterrestrial visitor, benefited the entirety of x'errenkind. There is not a single other employee in the history of this company with a record like yours, Captain. And that is why it pains me to ask for your badge.">
Arnd produced her badge from her bag, gripping it tightly enough to cause her pain. She took one last look at it, its bronzen form engraved with her name and rank stared back at her, and Arnd wanted to hold onto it forever. But she finally relinquished it, and knew that by doing so, she insulted thirty two years of blood and tears.
Urtakr held the badge with reverence, gingerly placing it in his breast pocket. One final deep breath. <"As of this instant, you are hereby dismissed. Your due compensation will be sent to you within the san'lo."> Both he and Arnd felt the sting of the moment, and shared an empathic salute. <"Now please, if you would allow me the privilege to personally escort you from the building."> Arnd nodded.
The foyer was oddly quiet, with little but the tapping of the receptionist typing at her computer to fill the void. The pair stood by the elevator as it arrived on the ground floor, a young man in an engineer's uniform rushed out and across the floor to clock in for an off-world assignment; Arnd watched him go with nostalgia before stepping in.
Urtakr cleared his throat. <"It was a pleasure having you on our team. I wish that fortune favours you in your future endeavours, Miss Kolr."> And the elevator doors closed as he saluted one final time, and Arnd was taken back up to the parking lot. She resisted the urge to punch the wall.
After a short walk, Arnd reached the limousine, whose door was ajar, revealing T'aro sat waiting with an aura of impatience and displeasure. She climbed in, closing the door behind her. Immediately after she took her seat, K'ul set off at a pace that felt to Arnd just a bit too hasty to mean anything good.
T'aro leant toward the dividing window. <"K'ul, make it quick and take the skies when possible. I'll take care of any speeding fines.">
<"Yes sir."> the man replied, deadpan.
He turned to Arnd. <"You took a bit longer than I expected, is there a problem?">
<"Good; if we're out for much longer, there may be cause to investigate your absence from X'rtani House. However, there is another issue at hand."> he stated angrily, bringing up a display in the center of the space. It was a video on Ta'X'rtana News's Flow page.
Mark sits on a sofa, looking at something offscreen. What stands out is the window behind him; it looks almost fractured, as though it was carved to replicate stone. Beyond the window is a view of Ta'X'rtana's monolithic buildings. The camera slowly sweeps behind the human to show the film he is watching. The video is of the interior of Arnd's room.
Arnd stared, teeth visible as a thin white line. <"What. The. Fuck?">
T'aro shifted, yet his displeasure remained. <"I take it you were not aware of this?">
<"Of course not! If I was, I would be beating Mark bloo- trying to beat Mark bloody!">
T'aro looked to her quizzically, but kept his questions to himself. <"I'd advise against that, Mister Stevens likely has nothing to do with this; he was alone the entire time, and quite engrossed if him not moving from his seat is anything to go off.">
Arnd's initial assumption dashed, she thought further. <"Maybe someone leaked security footage?"> She already had a culprit in mind, as guilty as her first thought made her feel.
<"Likely, but none of the cameras installed in your rooms capture that angle, let alone move like that.">
Arnd stammered in disbelief. <"S-so what is this?">
<"We're considering two options, both equally unsettling: they either managed to sneak in a camera without our cameras picking it up, which is quite unlikely; or this video is a digital recreation based on the security footage, which has all manner of implications I don't want to think about.">
Arnd knew exactly what he was talking about. Somebody with a model of Mark that convincing could easily fabricate any number of stories happening behind closed doors, should they prove willing to go beyond a simple recreation. And as tenuous as Arnd's view on Mark was, she knew how closely she was associated with him in the public eye, and how much damage false stories such as those would do to her reputation. <"So what are our options?"> she asked.
<"Right now, all we can do is ask Mister Stevens about yesterday and extrapolate from there.">
Shade encapsulated the vehicle as K'ul pulled into a small porte-cochère carved from the sheer mountainside beside the main entrance to X'rtani House. <"We have arrived, sir."> spoke K'ul through a hidden speaker.
The display was cut as the door opened. T'aro quickly stepped out onto the pavement and looked back to Arnd expectantly. This was needless, as Arnd hopped out right behind him and lead the way into X'rtani House, eager for answers.

Not too proud to admit that he had hit a wall when it came to the topic of pre-revolution X'rtan, Mark decided to close the Flow page he was on, put his data pad down, and perform a short exercise routine in the hopes that increased blood flow would help him think his way through the barrier. Not long after he had began, his doorbell rang. He rose from his sit-ups, quickly wiped off the sweat on his brow, and answered the door, to greet T'aro and Arnd, the latter of whom slipped past the human without a word.
Mark didn't like the feeling he got from Arnd as he turned to listen to T'aro, still in the doorway. <"Mister Stevens, may I enter? We have an issue to discuss.">
"Of course." he replied, not about to deny the man who held the reins on the power dynamic.
T'aro made himself comfortable at the kitchen table, begging Mark and Arnd to take a seat, which they did. T'aro then handed his data pad to Mark, the offending video onscreen. The video and an explanation of the situation commenced and soon concluded, T'aro taking back his data pad from the human. <"So,"> the man asked. <"What can you tell us about this?">
"Nothing." Mark replied, terrified but outwardly calm. "I didn't notice anyone else enter or leave other than Arnd. I think I felt that something was off, but I'd attribute that to the film more than anything; those Hu'wari are freaky." he prayed silently that T'aro would believe the truth. In the time before the man answered, Mark took a brief glance at Arnd, and saw the ghost of a scowl he knew he could neither face nor challenge.
T'aro considered his words for a long and quiet moment. <"I agree; those things are terrifying. Well, that leads me to believe that someone is giving away security footage. We can only hope that nobody in this chain is the vindictive sort, I don't want to think about what they could do with digital models of that quality when they're found out."> He stood from the chair, much to Arnd's confusion. <"I will be making my demands for an investigation immediately, and hopefully we can weed out the conspirators before long. I thank you for your cooperation, Mister Stevens, and I wish you a good day."> And with that, he left, typing a message as he went.
Mark and Arnd sat in the wake of T'aro's leaving, each too stunned by the stiff awkwardness to move or speak. Slowly, as the quiet seconds wore on, Arnd's scowl deepened in the face of the being that seemed preternaturally adept at attracting trouble for both him and those around him. Abruptly, she stood up and made for the door, knowing that staying for much longer would lead to nothing good.
"Arnd." said Mark as the woman in question reached the door.
She paused, entertaining the thought of finally making her feelings known even beyond the kind explanation she gave to the human days prior. But, with what respect she had for the dynamic they shared, and her own want for peace, she remained silent. Still, she remained to listen.
Mark understood immediately. "I'm sorry for dragging you into all of this; I wish our plan worked out."
<"So do I."> Arnd replied, and left. Moments later, Mark heard a frustrated yell from down the corridor.

Blood: Chapter 3. Verse 2.
And from the prisons dug from the earth arose Wey'sai, haggard and weary.
He stood tall before the blades of judgement, smiling peacefully despite his torment.
The lawman asked him, his tongue thick with lies: <"Why do you smile in the reflection of your doom, blasphemer?">
Wey'sai replied: <"Your judgement is not my doom, but salvation for all.">
It was with those words that Wey'sai's head was hewn from his neck, and it crashed to the ground with peace on its face.
The line was slow and long, stretching well into the mess hall as most all prisoners waited for their turn to contact the outside world. As a correctional facility, it wouldn't do for Holy Krek'ka Correctional Facility to deny its wards the option of bi-weekly access to the world at large for good behaviour, even if limited by a brief video call. Friends and families broken by an individual's choices and the subsequent consequences were given the chance to reconnect and heal together; convicts were given the motivation to examine and better themselves for the sake of themselves and their loved ones; and rarely, ever so rarely, people were given the chance to find their faith, and a new path in life.
Ledrn finally passed into the call room; closed off and soundproofed chambers - each monitored appropriately - lined the outer walls, the door to each occupied by a prisoner waiting their turn. Before long, Ledrn took his place by a door, and waited under the watchful eye of armed guard and increasingly impatient prisoner alike. Finally, the chamber Ledrn stood by was vacated, the convict in question wiping his eyes as he left.
The chamber was simple: a table, a chair, and a large touchscreen with a dial pad ready on the display. Ledrn sat down, already knowing who he was going to contact, and input the appropriate number.

The central hall of the Greater Kurj'al Kerc-Wey'sai Temple was quiet and dark, bereft of all occupants but one: an old soul dressed in the same robes she had donned for decades, sprinkling consecrated herbs and offering prayer over the smouldering remains of a raised bonfire whose ashes lay surrounding a rough hewn central stone column reaching to the artistically carved ceiling. Pews were arranged in concentric circles stretching to the far walls, facing the central column. The walls were adorned by statues of saints, prophets, and history makers of Kerc-Wey'sai's past, each with a pair of coloured flames in their chests dimly lighting the chamber; yellow in their right, caged by ribs of metal, representative of the blood that tied them to the mortal plane; and a brilliant green in the left, free of any constraints, signifying the ascended spirits that guided the faithful in times of crisis. Her wrist-pad rang, a notification telling her that her office's computer has received an incoming call. She quickly said the appropriate prayer, set down the herbs, and went to answer it.
Her office chair creaked as she sat, surrounded by ceremonial scrolls and bookshelves filled with ledgers pertaining to the temple's administration. The message window sat visible in the corner of her screen, telling her that the message was from Holy Krek'ka orbiting the planet. Curious, but with the demeanour befitting her position, she answered.
And upon her screen, sat calmly with arms on the table in front of him, was Ledrn.
<"Blooded Daughter Quaye't, it has been too long."> he said calmly.
Quaye't stared in shock. <"L-Ledrn! Why are you in prison? And what happened to your hand?!"> she asked, staring at the stump onscreen. Beside it, Ledrn's remaining hand was twitching slowly, making Quaye't no shortage of nervous.
<"I... was too eager to protect the crew I was assigned to. But that's not important; how have things been since I last visited the temple?">
<"Uh-"> Quaye't began, flustered at Ledrn's nonchalance. <"Fine enough. We've hosted some charity events; had some slight remodeling done to the temple; and the High Son has recently ordained a young faithful into the order, so we're hopeful on that front.">
<"Ah. It's good to hear that you and the order have been well. But now that you mention charity events, I can't help but remember that you have an upcoming event for the Eve of Star's Exodus, correct?">
<"Yes, we do. Why?">
<"I'm not sure if you're aware, but it's about election season."> Of course, the woman's face conveyed confusion at this statement. Ledrn continued, unconcerned. <"Knowing this, hopeful politicians looking to boost their ratings wouldn't mind pitching in for the sake of good PR, and I think that their patronage would draw quite a few eyes your way.">
<"I see. I've not thought of that before, I'll have to consider that. But... why are you worried about something as comparatively mundane as this when you're in prison?!">
<"Because the order has done immense good. Good by the community, and good by me. This right here is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on that good. And besides, there's not much I can do here but be on my best behaviour and hope for a reduced sentence."> A light and alarm then blared in Ledrn's room; his time was up. His twitching in his remaining hand became immediately more severe, sparking concern in Quaye't, but Ledrn himself seemed unfazed, simply keeping his gaze locked to the screen. <"Well, that's my time. I wish you all the best, and please, be sure to forward this to Elder Son Duvem.">
And in that moment, the feed cut. Quaye't sat staring blankly at the screen, worried as to the events leading to Ledrn's incarceration. She concluded though, that there was little use in sitting by and fretting about that when not only did she still have her afternoon duties to perform, but that she would be doing more for him in the moment by honouring his request and informing Elder Son Duvem. As such, she did just that, and then left to pick up where she left off.

The sun dipped below Ta'X'rtana's skyline, and it was time for Quaye't to hang up her robes for the day and return to the altogether different comfort of her home. She muttered one final prayer at the foot of the bonfire as the night's temple keepers filtered in, and slung up her bag, ready to leave. As she reached halfway to the temple's entrance, however, she was interrupted by the clapping of a coarse palm on her shoulder.
Spinning on her toes, Quaye't came face to face with the balding, time-weary visage of Duvem. He stood, bent by age and injury but steady with the aid of a cane, looking up to his junior with urgency in his eyes. <"With me a moment, child."> he said, and led her over to an empty pew.
There, he pulled out his device, a recording of the video call on screen. <"When you sent me this video, I was glad to know that the young man was safe, despite how clearly disastrous his most recent assignment was."> —He shook, and lovingly brushed the back of his hand— <"As I watched though, I noticed something. So I rewatched it, and I saw this."> He then played the video, letting it run for a while. <"Can you see it?"> he asked, a twinge frantic.
<"See what?">
<"The hand*, child! The hand!">* he exclaimed, pointing a wrinkled finger at the twitching appendage on screen.
<"I noticed that. Whatever took the other must have given him a nervous tic or something."> she conjectured with pity.
<"It's no tic, child; it's all ordered."> he stated. Quaye't did naught but stare confusedly. Duvem continued, annoyed but unsurprised. <"It's all faint, very faint. He doesn't want the guards to see it."> When Quaye't continued to visibly express her confusion, Duvem sighed and rewound the video. Then, following along with Ledrn and performing the motions as they were meant to, he began.
A rubbing of the thumb and forefinger together, with a bent ring finger, a traditional prayer gesture said to ward against evil. A balled and rotating hand, mimicking a spinning planet. Clawed, and tightening its grip. A cupped hand, palm down, the thumb laying parallel to the ground. <"Unholy Foreign Enemy in Home base."> Extended thumb and pinky in the shape of an ancient communicator. Then, upturned fingers rolling up and down, like an approaching army. <"Call Reinforcements.">
It was this demonstration that made everything click in Quaye't's mind. <"Military signals.">
<"Exactly. And I'd bet you my good eye that it has something to do with whatever took his hand."> He scratched one of his remaining teeth in thought. <"Did he tell you anything about his assignment before he left?">
Quaye't combed her memory for anything of note. <"I think he mentioned something a week before he left: something about stars...">
Duvem's scratching intensified as vague yet recent memories began to clarify in his mind. <"Stars... stars... star... hunter? Star, Chaser."> Frantically, he put the term into a Flow search. Links to article after article appeared on the screen, each one mentioning the vessel, its crew, and their monumental journey. Eventually, the search led them to a recent police report, aired on the Ta'X'rtana News network.
An officer stood at a podium before a crowd of the press. <"As for the matter of the X'rtan Freight employee, we have video confirmation of what appears to be an attempted mutiny that the Star Chaser's captain immediately put to a stop.">
What sounded to be a middle-aged man shouted from the crowd of press. <"Sir, have you determined a motive for this betrayal?">
<"From what we have gathered, the man in question revolted in response to a so-called 'alien' on board the ship. After talking to officers on-site, we have determined that this 'alien' in question is nothing more than an advanced animatronic for a movie being shot on Men-te."> At his words, body cam video of the Star Chaser's cargo bay filled the screen. A short, pale, hairless biped stood its ground, looking away from the camera, at the officer's face.
The pair looked at their findings in horrified realization. Quaye't was the first to regain composure. <"The unholy, foreign enemy.">
<"And the warped thralls deathly pale shall splinter the world at the Adversary's will.
And so shall the world return to fire as it was forged, and the sins of the living light doom's blade ablaze."> recited Duvem in abject terror. <"Lords protect us... even looking at it gives me chills, knowing what I do now. To think, my first assumption was that one of those X'olandi on the crew was responsible.">
In the face of a revelation as world-shattering as the one she just experienced, Quaye't was more than willing to overlook her elder's unsavoury assumption. <"But what about the reinf- the faithful! This clearly isn't something the law is going to help with, so it falls to us! We'll have to be careful though; if this is something the law shouldn't know, then we will have to be discreet in informing our followers.">
<"Yes. If that thing is here, then it's allowed to be by the law. If that's going to change, we're going to need a mass petition and aid from... politicians. Ledrn, you clever grub, you thought of everything!"> He spoke with equal parts fear and relief. He gripped his cane with fervor and rose from his seat, caring little that his back objected to this display of almost youthful vigor. Both he and Quaye't made for the main office and the night's acting Blooded Child, the end of their daily tenures be damned; a holy war was brewing, and they must be ready.

Hello there!
Before continuing, be aware that I am looking for something serious and long term, of course, something real and not online only.
If you do not have any interest in making this happen or investing the necessary time into something like that, please reconsider sending me a message.
I would like to start online and get to know you and see if we have a click and if our Kinks and Interests align. I can travel long distances, but you should live in Europe, preferably in central Europe like Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway or Finland and be able to travel too.
My goal for the future is to turn this into an actual relationship while living together with my potential Sub/Partner.
I am 24 years old from Germany with blonde hair, blue eyes, a beard and wear glasses. I don't smoke or drink alcohol frequently, neither do I take any medication or other drugs. While being very tall (+185cm) I am also not a lightweight person (around 130KG), but I am already working on it and frequent to the gym. You could say that I am going for the strongman aesthetic.
My friends describe me as a very calm and mature person, who can be assertive when needed. I enjoy having control and taking on responsibilities as well as their consequences. My humour is usually quite dark and dry.
I like spending my free time watching Series, Movies, read Hentai Mangas and playing Video Games. Occasionally I watch documentaries or try out new cooking recipes for my meal prep plan. Apparently I am also very good at giving hugs and some of my friends see me as a cuddly teddy-bear.
I am a very direct and open-minded person. Once I have a goal set for myself, I am working eagerly towards achieving it, even if it means getting rid of things which hold me back to fulfil my goal. Aside from that, I like to force myself to go out of my comfort zone, educate myself and learn. Adapt and overcome.
I am seeking a mutually nurturing and fulfilling long-term, monogamous, in-person relationship with a D/S dynamic with someone who identifies as submissive, preferably as a Pet, Slave, Toy/Doll or a Hucow or at least some features and attributes of it.
I expect my Sub to be honest and take it seriously in the same way as I do. Honesty, loyalty and respect are what I value the most. A romantic Sub/Dom relationship is based on mutual acceptance and appreciation in my view.
A lovely character and a strong personality are what I want. I do understand that the visual appearance also plays a significant role but let me assure you, that the optical part is not what I am looking for in the first place — the sympathy and chemistry in between us needs to match.
My ultimate goal is to make you as the Sub feel secure, comfortable and confident at my side while being able to provide you with structure, safety, affection and the care you need. This varies from daily check-ins through Voice/Cam chats up to emotional security, intellectual stimulation as well as of course the post-play aftercare.
Yet you should be able to organise and manage your own life, including your job and things like finances. I would encourage and motivate you as much as I can and would like to be the guidance you need. My Sub would always come first, I would treat you very well and make you feel loved. That can vary from vanilla things to romantic date nights and more.
I don't expect you as the Sub to be experienced or to look like an Instagram photo model, all that I want is that you focus on me and that you take the time and put effort into all that for as much as I do.
Before talking over kinks, it is worth mentioning that I like to experiment and to try out new things before judging or straight up denying them in the first place.
My kinks:

Note: I do not want to have children yet, it is more of a risk, doing it bareback/roleplay thing.
Note: If I could not have a Pet I would want a Slave/Toy with a few features of a Pet like I mentioned earlier. This could be the lactation but is not limited to other kinks.
You as the Sub should be docile, enjoy nipple and breast play, like being led and trained as well as going through daily rituals and routines arranged together in mutual agreement.
I’m exceptionally turned on by the idea of owning a hucow, so my ideal partner would be someone who is either tolerant of being treated like one or turned on by it as well.
I also like using tools to restrict the senses, like taking away the ability to move, hear, smell or to see.
My Sub should have no issues with wearing a collar, mouth gags, bitgags and a harness. Ownership is something I would like to express through various methods, this could be wearing a collar made of steel in public or similar, a tattoo if you want or something else. The Collar could be hidden too, perhaps something which is not so obvious.
Apart from that, I also could imagine trying out heavier bondage, CNC/Non-consent and electrostimulation devices as well as some Japanese style bondage. I am aiming to combine my and your kinks and ideas together with our everyday life.
You should have no issues with fulfilling the wishes and kinks of your Dom. Otherwise, you can expect a punishment based on the severity of your misconduct. This could vary from soft spanking, using a whip or flogger up to a denied or forced orgasm. Of course, once the Dom's wish has been fulfilled, it will be extraordinarily rewarded.
Outside of a play session and being a Sub, she can gently and safely step down, so that she can spend time with me doing other things. This includes going out to do things like exploring, watching films, checking out new restaurants, going into the cinema or going on road trips. Alternatively, we could have days-ins where we can enjoy playing Video Games, order Food and spend the time together while being lazy.
That being said, I would take very good care of my Sub, take the responsibility, their consequences and make sure she feels proud and happy with me on her side.
Please keep in mind that. If you decide to message me, please take a few minutes to introduce yourself properly and mention your gender, location, your kinks and things you dislike as well as a description of yourself like your personality, hobbies, what you do for a living and so on.
The more information it contains, the better.

The Brudenell Social Club
A running men's membership turned track venue, it really is misplaced none of its old school charms.
To see the country's exceptional new bands and devour a pie, all beneath one roof. The Brudenell Social Club is probably a chunk of a trek faraway from Leeds metropolis center, however, there may be a reason that it is nonetheless one of the area's most precious musical gems, regardless.
In the live room, you have a lovingly-programmed invoice of bands from new faves to established huge hitters (Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, The Vaccines and greater have all popped lower back for special gigs); in the bar place, you can play darts and chow down on grub from Pieminister, whilst outdoor within the extensive beer garden, they've got a permanent pizza van, too. What's now not to love?
Sheffield Winter Gardens
One of the biggest temperate glasshouses built within the remaining century (aka a very huge, surprising greenhouse).
For an unexpected oasis of calm in the city center. Having a bad day? Need to assuage your screen-burnt eyes with a little bit of greenery?
Then head to Sheffield's Winter Gardens. A slice of serenity inside the center of town, it is domestic to 2,500 plants, all housed in one big structure. 10 minutes in here and you may have forgotten all about the outside world; the only trouble might be forcing yourself to leave.

Step back in time to the Victoria era, where you could wander through a specially-recreated buying street, play get dressed up and perform a little enjoyable studying through their collection of visitor exhibitions. When you're done, you could even wander over the street for a roam through Kirkstall Abbey's mind-blowing grounds.
Humber Street
The revamped area in Hull, domestic to all manner of arty and interesting exploits.
Go for the scene, stay for the Sesh. Until the start of the decade, Humber Street was home to a fading fruit market, and little else.
Now after an almighty revamp, it's been was the city's hippest area with a veritable treasure trove of cool bars, tasty eateries, galleries and boutique shops in its midst.
It's also domestic to the once a year Humber Street Sesh – a massive birthday party showcasing the first-class of Hull's neighborhood track scene.
Harewood House
One of the Treasure Houses of England – and just as grand as the name may suggest.
Peruse a few arts or watch a show, in the most luxurious of surrounds. Your handiest need to glimpse the grandiose exteriors of Harewood House to know it is a piece of a unique one. One of nine 'Treasure Houses' (aka the poshest stately houses within the country), even just a wander around its interiors and grounds is enough of a cause to pay a visit.
Harewood House doesn't simply rely on its beauty to convey the people in, however. Hosting a constant stream of exhibitions, events, and gigs, there's always something to tickle your fancy some of the mind-blowing surroundings.
Leeds Corn Exchange
A modern-day purchasing mecca, below one massive dome.
For the high-quality of Leeds' independent investors, in an unconventional setting. Sure, your Westfields and your city malls might be convenient, but they're now not exactly brimming with personality, are they?
If you are in the marketplace for a few extra... Well, market-like purchasing experiences, however, then Leeds' Corn Exchange is the one for you. Showroom Cinema
Sheffield's premier independent Picturehouse, showing arty flicks and unique screenings.
To find out the form of cinematic treats you won't discover down the Odeon. Sheffield's impartial cinema scene is thriving. Home to the annual Sheffield DocFest amongst different acclaimed events, Steel City knows what it speaks to me approximately on the subject of the massive screen.
The showroom is the gem in its crown; featuring 4 screens and showing a range of contemporary and conventional left-field choices, it's the form of place that would instead open your eyes than spoonfeed them the brand new blockbuster. A real treasure
York Minster
York's maximum famous resident – its huge ol' cathedral, of course.
People have been traveling this guy for over a thousand years, so he's probably got something going for him. There are a few homes so steeped in records, and so universally revered that you possibly need to tick them off the list at the least once to your lifetime. York Minster is one of them.
A grand cathedral built lower back in the 7th century (that's pretty rattling old), its grand, imposing pillars and ornate, first-rate carvings are still mighty magnificent, even by present-day standards. And they failed to actually have electric equipment to construct it with! Imagine!
National Science and Media Museum
Bradford’s six-floor mecca to the electricity of picture and sound.
For all kinds of informative yet interactive fun. With a project announcement aiming to “inspire the scientists and engineers of the destiny to see extra, hear greater, think more and do greater,” Bradford's Science and Media Museum is absolutely aiming high. Luckily, its six floorings of exhibitions, interactive areas, cinema screens and more are sufficient to make any wannabe visual explorers wide-eyed. What's greater, it is free.
So if you think you've got a budding Graeme Ferguson (he created the IMAX Dontcha know) to your midst, you've no excuse not to gas their innovative fires.
Belgrave Music Hall
Top-notch gig area with a rooftop bar serving after-hours cocktails.
To pretend you are lounging approximately on holiday, even though you're in LS2. Belgrave Music Hall's were given a quite natty 300-capacity event space, however, it's the rooftop terrace that we are swooning over here. Featuring deck chairs, timber canopies, and diverse different locations to perch at the same time as you swig on a craft ale/scoff a few pizzas from the Slice Bar downstairs, it's an unintimidating gem with the satisfactory vibes around.
Who desires tropical holidays anyway, eh?

Prehistoric Yorkshire
In 7,000 BC Yorkshire could look quite unique from what it does today. In those days it became blanketed in thick forest. At that time the first human beings arrived. They had been stone age hunters and gatherers. They hunted the abundant wildlife in Yorkshire including deer and boar. Then in 3,000 BC, Stone Age farmers arrived. They commenced the long process of reducing down the forests to make a manner for farming. In approximately 1,800 BC they were accompanied through farmers who made bronze gear and weapons.
The Bronze Age farmers had been in turn replaced through the Celts. The Celts arrived in Yorkshire after 500 BC. They added iron tools and weapons. Most of Yorkshire became occupied by using a tribe referred to as the Brigantes, who had their capital at Aldborough however elements of Eastern Yorkshire have been occupied by a tribe called the Parisii.
Roman Yorkshire
However, the written records of Yorkshire begins approximately 71 AD while the Romans arrived. The Romans invaded Southeast England in forty-three AD and they conquered England in stages. In seventy-one AD they invaded Eastern Yorkshire and constructed forts, which includes ones at Doncaster and York. At first, the Romans built forts in Yorkshire but via the second century, three cities were created. One grew up at York with the aid of the web site of a 1st-century castle. There became also an essential Roman city at Aldborough (on the site of the vintage Brigantine capital) and any other at Brough on Humber. The Romans mined lead in Yorkshire (The Romans used to lead an outstanding deal).
Nevertheless, Roman civilization changed into, skin deep. The most 'Romanized' location became the East Riding. However, for maximum normal human beings in Yorkshire Roman rule in all likelihood made little difference. At any rate, by means of the 4th century AD, Roman civilization becomes in decline. The closing Roman soldiers left Britain in 407 AD. Afterward, the Roman towns were deserted and the Roman way of lifestyles disappeared from Yorkshire.
Viking Yorkshire
In time trade and commerce commenced to revive and those got here to live at the site of the vintage Roman town of York. In the mid 8th century York sprang to existence again. Craftsmen went to live there and weekly markets started out. Also, ships started to sail along the River Ouse to and from the Humber and the sea. They brought goods to and from the metropolis. However, Yorkshire remained overwhelmingly agricultural. Most human beings lived in tiny villages and tilled the soil.
Unfortunately, life in Yorkshire turned into disrupted via the Vikings. They started to raid England at the top of the 8th century. In the mid 9th century they turned to conquest. The Vikings captured York in 866 and shortly later on a separate kingdom of Yorkshire was founded. The Danish nation of Yorkshire lasted till 954 when it changed into recaptured via the English.
Yorkshire inside the Middle Ages
In 1066 Harald Hardrada, the king of Norway invaded England. His military sailed alongside the Humber and the Ouse. However, after they landed they have been wholly defeated by using the English on the Battle of Stamford Bridge. Shortly afterward William Duke of Normandy gained the struggle of Hastings and became topped king of England. In 1086 the people of Yorkshire rose in rebellion. William marched to York and constructed a fortress there. However, whilst he left the location in 1069 the North rose in rebellion once more. This time William took drastic action. His men burned all the stores of meals and the crops inside the fields. They also slaughtered home animals and destroyed farm gear. This 'scorched earth' policy was known as the Harrying of the North. As a result of it many people in Yorkshire starved to death.
Yet Yorkshire eventually recovered. In the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, Yorkshire prospered and plenty of new cities had been founded. These protected Barnsley, Doncaster, Hull, Leeds, Northallerton, Pontefract, (its name comes from the Latin words Pontus fractus, meaning broken bridge), Richmond, Scarborough, and Sheffield. Meanwhile, many monasteries had been based in Yorkshire. These protected Bolton Priory (a priory became a small abbey), Bridlington Priory and Pontefract Priory.
By the 12 months, 1300 Yorkshire was booming. The populace of Yorkshire was booming. The population of Yorkshire had risen dramatically since 1066 (notwithstanding the harrying of the North). Much woodland was cleared for farming. However, inside the early 14th century, the climate worsened and within the years 1315-1322 famine struck. In the early 14th century Yorkshire also suffered in a long war with the Scots. In 1318 Robert the Bruce burned Northallerton. Then in 1349 Yorkshire turned into devastated by way of the Black Death, which killed about a 3rd of the population.
A history of the plague
In the 15th century Yorkshire, like the relaxation of England, turned into laid low with the Wars of the Roses. During the one’s civil wars, battles had been fought at Wakefield in 1460 and at Towton in 1461. Meanwhile, some Yorkshire towns declined in prosperity and importance. The populace of York itself declined significantly.
Life in the Middle Ages - Yorkshire 1500-1800
In the sixteenth century, Yorkshire towns recovered. The wool industry has become concentrated in Western Yorkshire. The metropolis of Leeds flourished and its populace grew rapidly. Wakefield and Halifax additionally prospered because of the cloth change. Meanwhile, Sheffield boomed and changed into already famous for its cutlery. Agriculture flourished once more and the populace of Yorkshire grew.
Meanwhile, other modifications took area. In 1536 Henry VIII closed the smaller monasteries. This provoked a growing that commenced in Lincolnshire and spread to Yorkshire. It was called the Pilgrimage of Grace. Henry controlled to disperse the rebels by making various promises (none of which he kept). Afterward, England has become a Protestant country. However, a few people in Yorkshire remained Catholics.
Then in 1642 came civil war between king and parliament. Yorkshire was divided through the civil conflict. In April 1642 the king tried to enter Hull but the gates of the city had been shut in opposition to him. Actual fighting began in August 1642. The royalists used York as their base. At the give up of 1642, they captured Leeds and Wakefield. They besieged Bradford and Halifax but failed to capture them.
In the past due January 1643, the parliamentarians counterattacked. They recaptured Leeds and Wakefield. However, in June 1643 the Royalists won the battle of Adwalton. As a result, they captured all of Yorkshire besides Hull. The pendulum then swung the alternative manner In October 1643 the parliamentarians in Hull drove back the royalists and lifted the siege. In March 1644 the parliamentarians took Bradford and in April 1644 they took Leeds. In July 1644 the royalists had been routed at the conflict of Marston Moor. As a result, the royalists misplaced all of northern England.
In the 18th century, the wool industry in Yorkshire flourished. Leeds and the alternative wool towns persisted to develop rapidly. So did Sheffield. Meanwhile from the center of the 18th century the metropolis of Huddersfield, which until then had been a small region mushroomed. The metropolis of Hull also grew rapidly. The coal mining enterprise inside the West Riding also prospered.
Industry in Yorkshire became helped through upgrades in transport. A number of turnpike roads were built (they have been privately owned and maintained roads and you needed to pay to apply them). In the late 18th century canals were dug. As properly as this the overdue seventeenth and 18th centuries was also the age of spa cities. People believed that consuming mineral water or bathing could treatment illness. Both Harrogate and Scarborough flourished as spa towns.
Modern Yorkshire
The population of Yorkshire rose rapidly within the 19th century. The textile, metallic and coal industries boomed. Towns like Leeds, Bradford, Keighley, Sheffield, and Hull mushroomed. In the mid 19th century York became a center of the railway enterprise. Conditions within the new industrial towns had been regularly appalling. They were dirty, unsanitary and overcrowded. In 1832 and 1848 there have been outbreaks of cholera in the towns. However, things stepped forward inside the past due 19th century. Sewers had been dug and piped water supplies were created. Public parks and public libraries opened. The standards of housing also stepped forward considerably.
However many elements of Yorkshire remained rural. Even so, they have been changed by using the coming of the railways. A network of them changed into built within the 1840s and they helped to interrupt down the isolation of the greater far off areas. Furthermore, the primary seaside towns arose within the nineteenth century. Scarborough became one such resort.
The early 20th century changed into a tough one for Yorkshire. The Nineteen Twenties and 1930s were a time of mass unemployment. The old staple industries which include coal and textiles declined and that they shed workers. On the opposite hand, neighborhood authorities commenced demolishing the worst slums and the first council homes had been built. Many extra council homes were constructed in Yorkshire after 1945. For folks that had jobs, living standards rose significantly in the Twenties and 1930s. One signal of this turned into the constructing of many cinemas.
Full employment returned throughout the Second World War however Yorkshire became a goal for German bombing. Hull changed into the maximum significantly bombed city. After the Second World War, the conventional industries endured their relentless decline. Coal, metallic, and textiles all shrank. The fishing industry in Hull went right into a nosedive. However carrier industries along with education, retail and tourism grew. At the cease of the twentieth century, many Yorkshire cities reinvented themselves and refurbished their centers. Many new museums were opened.
There become another trade in Yorkshire in the late twentieth century. From the 1950s huge numbers of West Indian and Asian immigrants got here to Yorkshire. Today many towns and towns in Yorkshire are multicultural.
In 1974 the political map of Yorkshire changed. It turned into divided into four nearby authorities areas, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, and Humberside. Today Yorkshire is a colorful county with a rich future.

(This thread is meant to be a fun and light hearted discussion on some great older cameras, not to create or bash other cameras. All current cameras are amazing - these just have a bit of a magic to em)
The Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera was released in 2015 and the Cinema Camera 2.5k was released in 2012. At the rate that cameras are being announced these days, that’s a century ago in the consumeprosumer world. The micro was released with very little fanfare as it didn’t have a monitor and was marketed as a great companion to drones, head cams, dash cams, sport cams, etc. Some people rigged it up, but for the most part it wasn’t exactly the most popular camera at the time. The cinema camera was popular, but nowhere near the level the pocket 4k and 6k are. Though I keep speaking in past tense, the micro camera is still available to buy today new and the cinema camera (will call bmcc 2.5k from here on out) is available to buy all over eBay. Though with the Pocket 4k and 6k on the market - it’s very unlikely anybody is buying them. As we enter the most competitive market ever for the low/mid tier videographer and filmmaker, I am here to tell why this small unassuming - and rather ancient by todays standards - camera is special and why it could fit well with some of you.
This guide is meant to be a fun way to explore a hidden gem in the micro and a forgotten beast in the BMCC 2.5k, this is not written to cause a spec war, fanboy war, or any kind of mean spirited debate. It is just an opinion of one person, but something that I have been thinking about doing for awhile. Also, you may notice that I have left out the OG pocket from this list. I feel that was popular enough and I find thew micro and cinema camera do a better job in todays world. Lets get into it.
Brief History The Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera shares the same sensor as it’s older cousin, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. A camera that truly revolutionized the filmmaking world, by giving filmmakers that didn’t have the cash to buy expensive cinema gear a camera that had an amazing cinematic and filmic quality to it. Something that wasn’t found in DSLRs at the time with not only the film look, but also specs. The camera could record internal RAW at a price point that was and still is unheard of. But the camera suffered from many issues. The screen was garbage, there was a lot FPN issues, and most notably the battery life was straight up garbage. Batteries would last around 20 minutes and often times much less.
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera also shares a similar sensor to the original pocket, but provides 2.5k resolution and the image is sharper and cleaner. Both of these sensors are created by Fairchild Imaging, with a sensor called the CIS1910F in the micro. Fairchild are a company based out of San Jose, CA. They have created several sensors for Blackmagic, but I believe the new sensors of the Pocket 4k/6k are now Sony sensors. The sensor is important in this guide, because thats where the special sauce lies. The sensor here is the special sauce. Yes, color science matters, raw matters - but what Fairchild achieved here and what they were going for was film emulation at an affordable price. This means larger pixels, instead of more, and a dual gain structure similar to how the Alexa Sensor is built. There is a reason why Alexa is the king - their sensors have a look about them that has almost every filmmaker wanting to achieve. This is why the Fairchild sensor is so special, it gets close to that look - at an insanely cheap price.
Blackmagic Micro Differences to Pocket The Blackmagic at first glance seems like a stripped down original Blackmagic pocket. The thing is, it actually cleaned up quite a bit inside the hood. The micro received a new more modern processor, allowing it to clean up some FPN issues and improved rolling shutter. Though not a low light beast, it handles things generally better all the way around compared to the Pocket. When using a monitor, accessing the menus though tedious with its button place, is much more responsive - where the pocket was a lag fest.
Here is where we get to the good stuff. The micro cinema camera on paper and at first glance seems like a bit of a letdown. No monitor? No cold shoe? No handle? Canon Batteries? But, thats because of how Blackmagic marketed it. They didn’t market it like how Red or Zcam do it, which is a modular camera with a build your own adventure way to build it. But that is how it needs to be looked at. You get a brain and you need to add accessories, there is no way around it. But building around it is not as daunting as most people make it seem and once you do, you really unlock something special.
Whats the Point of This and What Makes this Camera Special? I am going to use some overused/misused terminology here to explain how the footage looks and what makes it special. In a current era where modern sensors show every single pore and are mostly made by Sony (with insane modern feats) - there is an organic look about the early Blackmagic cameras (BMMCC, BMPCC, BMCC) that is special and has a very film like look to it, which is what Blackmagic set out to achieve and emulate. This is going back to Fairchild I talked about earlier and what they were able to achieve. The look that is ever so popular with almost every young filmmaker and over used on almost every filmmakers youtube titles - which is a ”cinematic or film look”. Yeah, I know, you want to argue its lighting and lenses and actual cinematography skills that achieves that. You are right. But there are still more tangible attributes besides that which can affect the way a video looks. Color science, DR, a soft look, and motion cadence are 4 keys to getting that look - a lot of it provided by the sensor. If you can nail all of those, you get a rather easy filmic/cinematic look out the box. And the Blackmagic micro and cinema camera have all of those and is really the last Blackmagic camera to ever use one of those older organic sensors that Fairchild brewed up. The Ursa Mini Pro line do still use Fairchild sensors - though they have a bit more modern look (still beautiful) and a little less filmic and dirty than the older Fairchild. The look is an acquired one - but its a look that modern mirrorless cameras don’t often have, at least not without heavy film grain, pro mist filters, vintage glass, added motion blur, etc. What makes this camera special is not on the spec sheet, because 1080p and 2.5k aren’t going to making you excited. It’s not on the paper that will make you go “wow”. Its not with their frame rates or their screens (or lack of) but It’s simply with the footage. You can throw all the specs you want. The footage of these cameras and the fact that they are available for so cheap today and almost forgotten, is the reason for this guide.
Keys To Rigging the Micro You need a cage and an external monitor. There is no way around this. If you don’t purchase or have those, there is no point exploring further. Remember like I briefly mentioned above - don’t think drone cam or sports cam - think modular RAW capable cinema cam. Smallrig and 8sinn both make cages for it, I have the smallrig and don’t see why you would need anything else. Take your pick with monitor, that is a personal choice, but I prefer something with Sony style NPF batteries.
If you only shoot RAW with this camera (which is why I do) - then you can basically set your settings and forget them. I would leave your ISO at 800 and manage your light with your lens aperture and variable ND Filter. There is no need to go into any menus, other than to possibly reformat your memory card. If you do that, you avoid the headache which is the awkward placement on the menu buttons.
If you shoot pro-res and you want to constantly change settings (ISO, WB, etc) then you will need either get used to the buttons or buy a second hand “One Little Remote”. Which is a little add on module that can help you change your cameras settings without menu diving.
For battery, you can use canon batteries for about an houhour half worth of battery. Or choose the best option, which is to buy the NPF bridge (https://www.starvingartist101.com) which allows you to simply attach NPF style batteries to the camera. With this option you can get around 4 hours of battery life on 1 charge.
So you attach a monitor, which most people already have. And if you shoot RAW, which is kind of what makes this camera special and what I recommend using, then you don’t need to menu dive or you can simply use the one little remote. And if you use NPF batteries you now have a cinema camera that doesn’t require v-mount batteries and can shoot RAW video for about 4 hours. All in an insanely small package with amazing footage. I think thats what gets lost with this camera is that people complain about having to rig it up - but a lot of the add ons are either pretty cheap or you already have. The NPF bridge is like 30 bucks. Cage from smallrig is $80. The monitor you prob already have. You really don’t need the one little remote if you shoot RAW or get used to the menus.
Keys To Rigging the BMCC Similar to the micro, you prob need a monitor here since its hard to see outside - but its not always necessary if you have the sunshade on. Still helpful though. The internal battery lasts about 90 minutes, so you will need a battery solution, similar to the pocket 4k/6k you can use v-mount or use a Sony FP adapter or similar. Most modern SSDs now are good enough to use with it and because of that, media is really cheap.
Memory Cards for the Micro If there is one legit complaint about the micro, its that newer sandisks memory cards do not work with this camera. Here is the scoop from Blackmagic:
“Please note that we have discovered an issue with the newer revision of the Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I SDXC 95 MB/s cards that begin with the product prefix SDSDXXG.
These cards do not work with the following products:

  1. Pocket Cinema Camera
  2. Micro Cinema Camera
  3. Video Assist
  4. Video Assist 4K
We believe that these new cards have the V30 rating on them.
Currently, only Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I SDXC 95 MB/s cards that begin with the product prefix SDSDXP are compatible.”
Though that sucks, good news is that if you have a sandisk pre 2018, it should work. Also there are non sandisk cards that do work. I have tested this one for example: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X1406EC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and it works fine. It is still something that you should be aware of. I got lucky and all my sandisks work.
Speedbooster for Micro There is a dedicated speedbooster for micro in Nikon or Canon variant. Its called Nikon G to BMPCC or Canon EF to BMPCC. There is a “T” version that has minor improvements, especially to the felt material inside. There are other speedboosters for micro four thirds that will work as well. Viltrox speedboosters also work. The difference is that the specific BMPCC version gives you a 0.58x vs x0.71 or higher crop factor.
Speedbooster for BMCC There are 2 versions of the BMCC the MFT version and the EF version. MFT allows for a speedbooster which gives you more options and flexibility and is the more preferred version amongst most people. But, EF gives you a native mount and is usually much cheaper to find. I am personally fine with the EF version and prefer to not use an adapter. This camera also has its own dedicated speedbooster.
Resolution Lets address the elephant in the room. These cameras do not shoot 4k. If you want a camera that shoots 4k, this is not it, simple as that. But, if you are a person that cares more about the image quality than the resolution, you won’t be disappointed. But lets say you really do want 4k, well, there is another hidden gem that takes these cameras one step further. Inside Davinci Resolve is a feature called “superscale” which upscales footage beautifully. And scaled micro and bmcc footage to UHD/4K looks fantastic. See Rob Ellis’s beautiful video on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyTUSuBwcCk
Also even if you need 4k for certain projects, this camera should still be in your arsenal. It’s cheap enough where you can have it along side something like a pocket 4k/6k. Again, the footage speaks for itself.
Where to Buy You can the still buy the micro new today. The BMCC can be found all over eBay, craigslist, etc. But you can score amazing kits on ebay, craigslist, etc. You can often find one with a one little remote, cage, and even memory cards for under $600 for the micro. Some will even include a monitor.
IR Cut and Moire I highly recommend using an IR Cut filter with these cameras as there is some IR pollution that can affect your image if you dont use one. You can find some for as cheap as 20-30 bucks. There are also some moire filters, like the RAWLITE OLPF, that does IR CUT and reduces moire. I don’t have too much of an issue with moire - so for a most a simple IR Cut filter is enough.
Conclusion I made this post because I am a junky of sorts. I buy all the new cameras, fall into the hype traps, and have severe GAS. I do love modern cameras, don’t get me wrong. I have owned cameras from Red to UMPs to C200s, down to the pocket 4k/6k, S1H, etc. They are all amazing. But man…there is something that is still so special about the older blackmagics. Specs can be great, some have amazing autofucus or great color. Some have shit color and shit bitrates. Some are great but the lens system and adapting to it are a pain. And some are plain beautiful but are really expensive. The micro specifically is a rare gem, because has a rare balance of amazing filmic quality, a lens mount that most of us on here are well aware of at this point, fantastic battery life of around 4 hours with NPF batteries, compact size, legit full RAW to internal SD cards instead of expensive cfast or having an SSD hanging from your camera and its cheap. Ridiculously cheap if you buy used. The cinema camera like the pocket 4k/6k needs a bit of rigging, but the fact that it has an SSD for media does help make things easier.
If you care more about the footage than resolution or you are ok with upscaling, this camera is for you. Now I will leave you with some footage:
Footage Here is some great content that were shot with these cameras and I believe show off what they can do

Not even sure this goes on this subreddit. I think it does, but feel free to correct me if not. Long post, so go get a coffee or some smokes. I’ll think of a TL;DR later.
First if all, let me first clarify english is not my first language, so feel free to ask anything you find that needs to be cleared, I’ll try and answer as best as I can. Mind you, this happened in the mid 90’s so I dont remember it perfectly, so I might not be able to answer every single thing.
Back then, I was around 12 y/o, give or take. My dad, as it was tradition every weekend, would take us to the closest shopping centre for a movie, plus hotdog and ice cream, etc. Mum would stay at home, most of the time, happy to be left alone and rest without us around (we were 5 boys, I’m the eldest, all at very close age to each other, so we were a handful, as you can imagine). Sometimes she came with us, ofc, depending on the movie, but I’m 100% sure she did not came with us on this particular occasion.
Anyway, the whole process was the same every weekend. We lunched, then dad would go to bed for a quick small nap, and around 16:00 he would wake up, check the newspaper to see what movies were available in what shopping centre and the time they’d start. On this particular day, though, middle of summer, the heat was unbearable and he woke up earlier than usual. So, bored I guess, he wanted to go to the cinema right then. Only problem was that it was really early, extremely hot, and he truly did not wanted to go to our usual cinema because leaving a car in the parking lot of the shopping centre to return only a few hours later would have the car turned into a oven on the way back. He checked for other options on other cinemas, but or the movie he wanted to see was not listed or it did not started at a convenient time. So, we were forced to go to the Soleil, our usual shopping centre-cinema. Oven it is, then.
When we got there, the parking lot was pretty empty. The heat was unbearable, guess no one was crazy enough to go to the cinema at this hour, but the cinema has an air conditioner. My dad had plenty of choices on where to park the car, he picked a spot right next to a very small tree, so the car could have some shade. The spot was at least 200m of the shopping centre entrance, so we start walking to it. There were very few cars parked on our way there, and little to no traffic, which was pretty rare for us kids when we visited the shopping centre, so as kids we started goofing around. Dad, normally kept us pretty close due to traffic, but since the parking lot was nearly deserted, he was ok with it as long as we did not ran too far.
I dont remember perfectly what happened, but one of my brothers called us all because he noticed something strange under a tire of a nearby car. We all went there, curious, except my dad who kept walking directly to the shopping centre entrance. As I get there, I noticed what was under the tire was a wad of bills. Lots of em. Up to this day, when when talk about it in our family reunions, we not sure exactly how much it was, and we all recollect it differently. But we all kinda agree it was probably several hundreds of pesos argentinos, maybe some more, which is the currency of my country. Today, that is pretty much nothing, but back then, pesos argentinos and american dollars were 1-1 in exchange, only you never had a use for dollars, so people preferred pesos. Either way, it was some serious amount of money. We all agree it was a big amount of bills, random denomination, so not the usual bank wad. No rubber band or anything.
Anyway, back to the story. I coudnt believe my eyes, and as I was about to shout to my dad about it, who was still walking to the shopping entrance, I though better and ran to him. Told him what we found, he didnt believe it and wanted to enter the air conditioned cinema fast, but I grabbed his arm and pulled him to the rest of my brothers, all still next to that car. So, as he was complaining about it, he looks at the wad of bills and moves his hand to his mouth by the surprise of that.
The following is the conversation that followed, at least the one we all agree more or less happened 25 years ago or so:
D=dad B1=me B2=second eldest B3=third eldest B4= fourth eldest
D: “Has to be some sort of joke/scam, probably glued to the floor or something...”
B1: /me looks around. “I dont see anyone around”
D: “Has to be”
B2: “Lets try lifting the car a little, maybe we can take it?”
D: “Go ahead, but its a waste of time”
B1: “If I get it, its mine”
D: /me ponders a second “At the very least, I’ll get you an ice cream for the effort”.
So I try, and B2 tries, but nothing. The car is too heavy to even budge a little. Even back then we were all big bulky types, but this was beyond us. I dont remember if we were not just string enough or the car was just too heavy. Either way, we coudnt do it.
D: “Ok, enough, let’s go”, as he turns around.
B3: “Wait, let me try too”.
D: “Your brothers coudnt do it, but ok, just hurry”.
B3 tries to lift the car, of course he cant. Then he drops to his knees and tries to pull the wad out, by force... As we laugh about it, he falls backwards, more laughs from our part... till we notice he was something on his hands... Yep, you guessed it, the entire wad of bills somehow had ended on his hands. Our eyes coudnt believe it. How was it possible he could take the money when we could not?!? To this day, we simply CAN’T explain it. Whatever the case, there it was, he had the money.
D: “... Give it to me”
B3: “But its mine.”
D: “Sure, but give it to me”.
B3 gives him the money, just as B4 speaks for the first time.
B4: “I want ice cream too”.
D: “Sure, but lets wait a few more minutes here”.
So, he pockets the money, and we move to the closest tree for some shade. Dad is looking around, waiting for something. As he recalls the event nowadays, he told us he was still expecting for someone to appear and claim the money explaining everything was a joke, or even some sort of hidden camera crew. But as the clock ticks, no one approaches us. Parking lot is near empty, and no movements whatsoever even close to us.
D: “Well, its getting hotter and I want an ice cream too now. “
In our way to the shopping centre entrance, he tells to B3 that if we go back and someone is there kinda searching for something, we have to give it back. Either way, he won an ice cream. My brother was really happy about it, confident the money was his. We enjoy the ice cream, no rush at all. Dad tells me to stay with my brothers, goes outside to check if anyone is close to that car, but nothing, not a soul even close to it.
He comes back, tell us he doesnt understand it, and looks at B3 with eyes wide open. As you can imagine, B3 was beaming, proud on himself like never before. Dad tells him to not count on it yet, lets first go to the cinema and ask around after we leave. I dont even remember we watched that day, none of us do. But we left the cinema, day still hot but more bearable now. A lot more cars outside now, but no cars parked near the “money car”, that was still there. We went to our car, got it, car was an oven, but no one complained. Dad drived closer to the “money car” and waited. He had the idea that if the car was still there, maybe it belonged to someone that cam to watch the same movie as us. But, nope, we waited a few more minutes and no one approached the car.
By now we were all telling dad to just leave, we wanted to go home and use the pool. Dad was tired, and maybe a bit angry, so we left and as we exited the parking lot, he called a security guard and told him he founded money in the parking lot, and wanted to know if someone was asking for it. Nothing. Surprised, left our phone number and we left. He was sure someone was going to call. But nope, no one called the entire day.
So, as you can imagine, B3 approaches dad and demands the money. He got it out, so its his money. Rest of us say nothing, we just look at dad and wait for what he’ll say. 25 years later, and though we all remember this story a bit differently, we all agree 100% on what happened then:
D: /me looks at B3 to the eyes, then smiles “I promised you an ice cream, you got it”.
As you can imagine, B3 was pissed for quite a while. Even nowadays, in our family meeting, we all laugh about it.

Ok, here is the story so far:I have not a single Android device that is not fully rooted, with the exception of the GO.Even my main phone is rooted despite being on stock standard firmware with no modifications apart from adding an adblocker. For me it is not about "hacking", changing things that work fine or such, it is about control and the right to "own" what I paid for.Expect for an older TV box that I gain root in a manual and painfully slow process I was able to get all required firmware sources directly from the manufacturers websites.Nvidia, Samsung, Google, ...
There seems to be little to zero interest amoung the ROM cooks to even touch a GO, same for TWRP as I was told by the developers there I would have to do it on my own and manually. Not that hard really, but again, next to impossible without proper firmware sources or full root access.Just so you know what I mean: 3 hours after unpacking my Nvidia Shield TV it was fully rooted and even running on a deleveloper firmware with no restrictions at all.
How to get started?Well, we first need to unlock the bootloader for obvious reasons.Oculus was kind enough to keep the original developer mode settings active on the GO.They are not accessible by any launcher though, only through a kernel command request through ADB, which then starts the settings menu directly on the cinema screen as an app.Once the option to unlock the bootloader is enabled there we can use Fastboot to perform the actual unlocking of the bootloader.I think I do not need to mention the requirement for a developer account here as otherwise you can not even activate the ADB support.
One nice thing is that so far it seems wireless ADB is still supported too.So using ADB connect IP ADDRESS means we don't need a USB cable all the time.If anyone wants to jump on the boat with me I can provide the required commands to get the developer settings menu on the screen, or link to the place where I found it.The big question is how to actually proceed, because no matter what we try:Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the device! All things you set up or installed will be gone. There is a backup and restore option in the developer menu but I somehow doubt that Oculus inluded a support for it considering that we have no working OTG support yet either.Through ADB it would be possible to pull and push whatever is on the internal memory.
I have some options left to gain access to the root system and through this maybe even dump the recovery and boot partitions - but I would really prefer some more official way. There must be normal people out there coding apps for the GO and I somehow doubt they would not value a rooted GO for easy access and changes to their creations. At least I prefer to just exchange the tiny parts required directly instead of unistalling and installing everything god knows how many times.
For those with real dedication and the right equippment:Unless I buy another router I have no options to log what is going through my router. And since the GO is WiFi only no programm for the PC will help here either. So if you happen to have a GO AND a router capable of logging all traffic on your WiFi then I would really appreciate your help! For an upcoming OTA firmware update I would need the required link(s) to manually download them onto my PC.Or if you are fully equipped already a link to the copy of the firmware you intercepted and uploaded ;)One problem though might be that it seems not all updates are full updates.Incremental updates are a nice thing but mean we would need to intercept until Oculus releases a full update - or at least one including a new recovery or bootloader.
Summary: The good and the bad about rooting the GOAs said for me it is a principle to have my Android devices rooted, for you the reason(s) might differ.Rooting means you will loose everything that is on your GO, maybe not the data on the internal memory but certainly all apps, experiences, accounts, settings and such. Will be like a factory wipe.It also means the, depending on what safety measures Oculus uses, a rooted GO might be excluded from OTA updates. Not too many manufactures do this though and most owners of rooted devices actually disable the OTA updater to prevent loosing root access.Depending on the security demands and checks a fully rooted device could also mean the billing won't work anymore - this is rare but should be mentioned.Again, this would be no issue if firmware sources would be supplied for normal download and use through the original recovery. In the worst case it would mean trying a manual unroot (best from the initial backup) and then locking the bootloader again. You see why access to firmware sources makes sense to many of the manufacturers? Now a bit of the good things about full root access:Ever faced a factory reset for some reason? Now imagine you could just upload your last backup and have your GO they way it was before within a few minutes instead of hours at best...Right! On a rooted GO we could do a proper backup of all vital things and even recover the device if a firmware update went wrong (in most cases at least). We could also install a proper launcher for all the normal Android apps we like and install them with ease instead of painful sideloading.Ok, you can make it much easier with an app launcher, apk installer and Aurora but a customised launcher with the apps you installed and use is way better.Have a 360° cam and the right apps? Why not make your own enviroment for the homescreen....For the hardcore ones there might be more but if you ever got disappointed because an app you want to use properly requires root then you know what I mean. And if you think it is a good thing to have full access then let me know here and I add the instructions to get as close to a root as is currently (legally) possible.
Update: 02/12/2018: My fears seemed to be confirmed that Fastboot is actually disabled in the bootloader. Omin Shaker pointed to the Quick Shortcut Maker from the Playstore to get easy access to all available tasks on the GO - check it out as it is useful for other things too. That means the ADB command will only be of use for those prefering to work on a direct level. Anyway, for those in need this is the command required to start the full developer options menu through ADB:

adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.VIEW -d com.oculus.tv -e uri com.android.settings/.DevelopmentSettings com.oculus.vrshell/.MainActivity
Credits for the above go to VRorNotVR! This call works for other apps in the same way, just replace the call for the app. So instead "DevelopmentSettings" use what you need. "com.oculus.vrshell" makes it run in the cinema screen instead of ending as a hidden task you still can't access. One way out to get to the finnish would now to find possible code to inject so an app with root privileges can be misused to, let's start a good filemanger (one that does not have an option to enable root access as otherwise you end up with a popup and get nowhere). The only other way, apart from intercepting a firmware and hoping it is not encrypted, would be to test the recovery for any weak spots that can be misused . Like the trick to fake a system update which actually only changes the build and default.prop. Sadly even for this we need a firware update to even check if it is possible on the GO :( If my checks are correct than the basic hardware is like the Fire TV 3, which so far can not be rooted either. The Amazon devices also use the same type of block updates we get, making it very hard to intercept a full one that contains a bootloader and that is not encrypted.

2018.03.10 18:18 XenophormSystem Lady Snowblood (1973) [Thriller / Drama]

We continue our marathon of the most badass woman alive, Meiko Kaji with her next movie series and arguably her most popular, Lady Snowblood (修羅雪姫).
Following her abandonment of the Female Prisoner series after the abrupt change of directors and regression to the pinku genera of film, Meiko Kaji went on to star in yet another highly influential movie, this one being the main source of inspiration for Tarantino's Kill Bill series. This movie was directed by Toshiya Fujita, known for another movie starring Meiko Kaji, Stray Cat Rock: Beat '71. I might get to review the Stray Cat Rock series as well eventually.
One thing obvious from the beginning is how much homage this pays to my favorite era of Japanese cinema, the 50s-60s Golden Era which was wildly known for its theatrical approach to film making, boasting beautiful and artistic painted backgrounds, theater props and acting as well as an excessive focus on tradition and folklore. Lady Snowblood goes on to pay homage to this era of Japanese cinema by also utilizing a lot of theater props, painted backgrounds and even theater-like acting while merging all of this with the trademark 70s Japanese cinema feel and electric pacing. And the result is nothing short of amazing.
This movie handles various themes, some more subtle than others. Again the movie has the goal to bring in together two wildly different eras of Japanese cinema, the 50s-60s and the 70s-80s. Boasting themes from traditional vengeance, karma, "monstrous woman" and honor to the trademark 70s themes of invasion of technology as well as the effect of western ideals and morals integrating within Japanese society.
The movies spends a lot of time focusing on fighting sequences which are done masterfully, with little to no CGI (I haven't noticed any CGI but I'm just taking into consideration maybe I've missed something). The choreography is done on point and also pays some homage to the old style of Japanese cinema with somewhat simple hits which don't really hit the target, again, in a theater-like manner.
The gore is pretty on point, while some people might say the blood was just a bit too much, having seen a fair share of real gore thanks to the wonderful place that is the internet I'd say this movie has some of the most realistic blood spill I've seen. Not 100% realistic but some the closest to reality. Sure some scenes might be a little enhanced for dramatic effect but it mostly keeps its feet on the ground. The blood itself is also quite special in this movie, having this somewhat strident, almost paint-like, look which is done deliberately to further enhance the visual style of the movie as a contrast to the bright white colors it comes in contrast, form white kimonos to snow.
And to keep on the visuals, they are a mixture of real rural / urban settings and Japanese theater-like painted backgrounds and props, depending on the situation and the atmosphere at hand. More important and symbolistic scenes will feature the more expensive and eccentric painted backgrounds and theater props in order to stand out and enhance the atmosphere.
Speaking of atmosphere, it is very tense and adrenaline fueled, as we witness our protagonist, Yuki Kashima, code named Shurayuki-hime (Lady Snowblood) who is on a quest of vengeance to kill the people who've wronged her family.
Those 4 in question have ran an unlawful business to steal money from the peasants by "protecting" them against the obligatory military draft. They've killed Yukis father (not her biological father as she wasn't conceived at the time of his death), elder brother and took turns to rape her mother, Sayo, for 3 days and 3 nights.
Eventually Sayo went on a quest of revenge, having killed one of the 4 responsible villains, act which landed her a spot in jail for life. Then she went on, as she puts it "like a stray dog in heat", giving herself to every man be it prisoner or guard in a desperate quest to have a baby to finish her quest.
This baby ended up being Yuki, who went on to train in the art of swordsmanship, her mother having died in childbirth. Now she's old enough and has the necessary skills to finally begin her quest of vengeance.
The camerawork is interesting but suitable for the movie. On one side it utilizes a lot of handheld style recording which adds a layer of dynamism to the already interesting action sequences and it's not done in the over the top "shaky cam" of todays movies.
Then it also utilizes a lot of panned shots, long takes and those oh so typical 70s tricks of starting with a wide shot then going for a closeup of a characters face or eyes. The movie also utilizes a ton of lightning and shadow tricks to enhance the more important scenes, again wildly reminiscent of the 60s era of Japanese cinema.
As for soundwork, it utilizes a lot of techniques from isolating certain sounds to add to the tension, to certain moments of absolute silence as a buildup to a nice technique which is a bit of a mix of both, by having all sound isolated but for one distinctive sound in the background which it also goes on to dampen and muffle to add even more tension to an already tense scene.
The soundtrack I'll part in 3 segments. The first one being again an homage to 50s-60s era of Japanese cinema, built on traditional Japanese instruments and rhythms. Utilizing mostly drums. The second segment being more 70s of somewhat funky - bluesy - jazzy - rocky songs which have a certain degree of catchyness to them.
Lastly you got your mandatory theme song of the movie. In the Female Prisoner series it was 怨み節 (Urami Bushi), sung by Meiko Kaji herself, this time we have 修羅の花 (Shura no Hana - The Flower of Carnage), again sung by Meiko Kaji. I highly recommend checking out her discography, she's an amazing singer besides actress.
Speaking of acting, her trademark "Meiko Stare" is on point, god dammit that look could kill someone. But in addition to that she has a lot of dialogue, something we didn't get a lot in the Female Prisoner series so it's no longer a case of "most of the time you'll hear her voice is when she's singing the theme song" because this time around she has enough lines of dialogue. Not too many but just the right amount for Meiko Kaji.
The movie also has certain moments reminiscent of the old sexploitation movies in which Meiko took part in with her Stray Cat Rock and Female Prisoner series as the movie has a few, scarce, rape scenes and nude scenes but you don't get to see much. Even the nude scene are hidden away from view and its most likely a nod to the start of Meikos career with these movies.
The ending is pretty off the rails in terms of badassery, boasting a lot if high tense action sequences as well as a finality which takes the viewer through a complete roller coaster of emotions.
One of my favorite scenes happens right at the beginning and its our introduction to Yuki.
She's walking on a lonely road, late at night, having only her trademark umbrella on her. She's blocking the path of Shibayama and his guards who are visually distressed and on the edge and decide not to bother around too much with her and kill her. She manages to handle all of them on her own using her trademark hidden blade that's concealed in the handle of the umbrella.
The whole scene plays out in a classic theater-like area with a painted background and obvious theater props on the side. As we learn later on this man wasn't one of the 4 responsible for her mothers tragedy but instead a charlatan whom she tracked down and killed to gain a favor with a local settlement for she desires their inside information to track down the actual villains of the story.
As for the ending, I have just a few mixed feelings about the final final shot of Yuki waking up the next morning after being shot and stabbed in the stomach with a sword and having slept on the cold snow and bled out for an entire night. While you could argue the movie isn't 100% realistic, a lot of the times it tries to keep itself grounded. If anything people die easier than usual so having her resist such blows is a bit odd.
While I'm glad that this teases a sequel which I can't wait to see, I also think it would've been a bit more poetic to have her die after she has fulfilled her quest and at the hands of another girl avenging her parents. As both her mother and master put it numerous times, she was born with the sole purpose to avenge her mother and nothing more so having her die at the end would've been a bit more of a fitting end in my opinion.
_______________NO MORE SPOILERS___________________
Overall this movie is yet another timeless classic featuring Meiko Kaji and is among the list of "must see" Japanese movies for any cinema fan regardless of preferences. I think especially fans of Tarantino and / or Female Prisoner series will enjoy this one as well as any fan of the 50s-60s era of Japanese cinema as well as the 70s-80s era for the movie does a great job at mixing these two very different approaches in a way that it just works.

2017.10.02 04:16 doubtingtomjr Hidden cam cinema

Day 1- Cat People (1942). I'm not sure why I put off watching this Val Lewton production in the past- this is surely a high water mark for 40's horror. While I didn't expect the overt sexuality of Paul Shrader's 80's remake, I was unprepared for how much this particular movie relied on sexual repression to hang the plot on. I had seen clips of this in the past, but not enough to rob director Jacques Tourneur of the suspense he was building in critical scenes. 6 out of 10, definitely worth a rewatch, and I think I will rate this higher when I'm not trying to shoehorn the flick into a jam packed marathon. CHECKMARK- EASTERN EUROPEAN ORIGIN, 1940's
Day 2- 31 (2016). I enjoyed The Lords of Salem, so I anticipated watching this Rob Zombie flick. Unfortunately this was a giant step backwards. The cringe inducing dialogue makes its return, to the point that most character lines are interchangeable with only a few films of the villains' lines standing out. I'd intended to use this movie to watch the director's commentary with (it's available on Shudder) but I'm too disappointed to watch this again so recently. 3 out of 10. CHECKMARK- 2010. UNRATED.
Day 3- A Quiet Place in the Country (Italian, 1968) Is artist ( Franco Nero) cracking up? Is the place from the title haunted by a nymphomaniac? Is there any way the director had NOT seen Bird With the Crystal Plumage before lending this? Don't expect answers to these questions and you'll probably enjoy the ride, even more so if you like Italian New Wave. Not traditionally scary but the lack of personal space and the "make eye contact then look at each other up and down before re-engaging in eye contact and dialogue" delivery creeped me out. Vanessa Redgrave. What a great name for a horror lead, right? Gorgeous, but wide eyed Nero is the focus, and one wonders if he was sharing his blow with her. Then again one wonders about a lot with this film. 6 out of 10, I already want to reevaluate it with someone, but I don't think many folks have the sensibility or patience to sit through this. Did I mention Ennio Morricone? CHECKMARK- FOREIGN LANGUAGE 1 -(Italian), 1960's, RATED R
Day 4- Berberian Sound Studio (2012) Mild English sound editor (perfectly cast Toby Jones) is out of his depth initially working on a giallo in 70's Italy. Homesickness, the language barrier and the increasing belief that he won't be reimbursed for his efforts are the tip of the iceberg as he is overwhelmed by the images on the screen of the film that overtakes him. 6 out of 10, the notable flaw being the use of subtitles. Tomorrow I'm going to go to the silent era for a film that will leave me even more appreciation for this film's wonderful sound design. I AM going to enjoy the break from my recent forays into the untrustworthy narrator motif.
Day 5- The Black Imp (1905) A traveler is literally be-deviled during a stay at an inn. Shot from a centered immobile camera, all the action must maintain a frenetic pace to pull the viewer in. The version I saw had a bouncy score that added a comic effect to the macabre dealings. If that had been Georges Melies intention, perhaps he should've trusted his audience to not run in fright if they'd seen this with a worthier soundtrack. I don't want to spoil the ending of this century old movie. Check out YouTube and give yourself over for 3 minutes. 8 out of 10. CHECKMARK BONUS-pre-1920's.
Day 6-Lights Out. Jumping back to a recent pick, and one that moves the camera in ways that didn't nauseate me. I mentioned to my wife during the watch how refreshing it was to have a character suffering from mental illness in a horror movie who wasn't "eeevil". The end was a giant jump backwards though. 4 out of 10. CHECKMARK PG-13.
Day 7-Insidious (2010). I knew going into this watch that I wasn't going to rate these films very highly, but the Challenge calls for a movie and it's sequels, and I haven't seen these before. Watch a short demonstration on a musical device called a waterphone. Pretty cool. This film seems to rely on them to punctuate the jump scares, which are numbingly frequent. 3 out of 10.
Day 8-Insidious 2/ Insidious 3. If you enjoyed the first movie, this sequel improves it. If you couldn't empathize with the characters and hate jump scares, this is torturous. 2 out of 10. CHECKMARK- A Movie And Its Sequels.
Day 9-The Return of Dracula. In 1958 audiences had 2 choices for a new Dracula flick, but only one features a count who looked like Boris Karloff's younger mafia hitman brother. I'm 90% sure that the SoCal cave in the movie was also the location in Robot Monster, some episodes of Gunsmoke, and other financially challenges movies in the era. Expect a lot of "day for night" in this mashup of Bram Stoker and Leave It to Beaver. 5 out of 10. CHECKMARK 1950's.
As Above So Below (2014). Enjoy the scenery and the attractive cast as much as you can in the few minutes that the shaky cam doesn't have you closing your eyes as a defense mechanism in the found footage flick. The Steelers had a particularly bad outing earlier in the day that I saw this, so my stomach was already fairly bothered before I turned this on. Maybe I'll give it another shot someday. 6 out of 10.
Day 10-The Being (1983). I only caught this because of the Landau, and I arrived at this microbudget outing by researching his filmography and finding this pic online. If you want to subject yourself to it, it's free on a site that will test your Adblocker to its limits. The 2 mysteries of this film are: how did they get 3 Academy Award winning actors cast and how has MST3K missed this gem. Pass if you have sense and check out the Blob instead. 3 out of 10. CHECKMARK Martin Landau. 1980's.
The VVitch (2016). The best genre movie I've seen since Martyrs. Amazing performances from the children particularly. Conveying both the language of the era in a believable manner to each other AND to an audience who I imagine are not as conversant in it must've been a hell of an undertaking. 9 out of 10. CHECKMARK Cult.
Blood From the Mummy's Tomb (1971). A late Hammer offering that presents a sometimes stunning Valerie Leon. You'll know she's on the screen when you think "I hope she takes her clothes off, because this acting is shit". To her credit, EVERYONE'S acting is unconvincing. She does get some of the "Stevie Nicks video wind machine in the hair" action, but nary a mummy wrap appears. 2 out of 10. CHECKMARK PG. 1970's.
Day 11 Innsmouth (2015). Decent short that "goes there" in a way that would have terrified HPL. 5 out of 10.
Return of the Living Dead (1985). I've seen this before, but not with the commentary. Nothing new honestly. CHECKMARK-Commentary
Dracula's Daughter (1936). Van Helsing becomes Von Helsing- is it a sequel or an alternate reality follow up? Is it an adaption of Stoker's Dracula's Guest or just a script by committee, including at least one writer who read LeFanu? Is it a dated morality play about the horrors of lesbianism? You be the judge. 7 out of 10. CHECKMARK 1930's.
Day 12 C.H.U.D. Not my cup of tea, but an interesting commentary on the less fortunate in American 80's society, it would be interesting to compare with The People Under the Stairs, They Live and Candyman. 5 out of 10. CHECKMARK CHUD
Legend of Boggy Creek (1972). A docudrama focused on the titular Fouke creature, a Sasquatch roaming that part of Arkansas since the 1950's. There's a mix of real Arkansanians and reenactment footage that places you at a point in time when In Search Of with Leonard Nimoy used to chill your young bones. Seeing this as an adult made me feel nostalgic but not frightened. 4 out of 10. CHECKMARK-rated G, Bigfoot.
Uncle Sam (1996) a comedy? set in the peaceful-ish period between Desert Storm and 9/11. Weird watch today, as an undead US soldier returns from Iraq to put on an Uncle Sam costume and exact justice against people who disrespect the flag and the National Anthem. Yeesh. At least we get Isaac Hayes in "Chef" mode yelling at the "kids get the hell out of here!" 5 out of 10. CHECKMARK 1990's, non Halloween holiday setting, comedy.
Day 13 Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan. I had been warned that I would hate this movie (as well as Part 9) and have avoided it, even though I own it as part of a boxed set. Trying to do this challenge as well as make everything on it first time viewings have me the opportunity to experience the cringe that is this piece of dogshit. Unlikeable characters, bloodless kills, the lack of fright, and a god awful Jason mask/ dinosaur roar at the end add up to 1 out of 10. CHECKMARK a Friday the 13th movie.
The Gorgon (1964)- a bit chatty Hammer movie that, despite casting Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, plays things disappointingly closer to a mystery than a horror, but maybe the fault is mine. I had Barbra Shelley confused with Barbara Steele, and expected some cool Ray Hattyhausen effects for the gorgon. This IS NOT Medusa from Clash of the Titans. My bad. 4 out of 10. CHECKMARK 2 or more horror icons, Barbara Shelley.
Day 14 Deep Blue Sea (1999) sports an impressive cast for a SyFy type mutant shark movie. Strangely, female lead Saffron Burroughs is one of the few people I DIDN'T recognize. Animals attack/ creatures of the deep flicks are a subgenre of horror that I don't go out of my way to view. This one didn't change my mind. 3 out of 10. CHECKMARK- Eco Horror, Set in/on/under the sea
Son of Dracula (1943). Alucard makes his first appearance, as does mustachioed Dracula, and Lon Chaney Jr as the head vamp. I liked it well enough, although I recognize that this film becomes a road sign for the Abbott and Costello/ beginning of the end for Universal films. 6 out of 10.
Day 15-The Hidden (1987I watched this along with the '58 Blob and the Blob remake, and liked this the best. By far the best soundtrack, this movie is also a buddycop movie with some of the most evident 80's cliches on display. Strange watching Kyle McLaughlin in a role so similar to his later Agent Cooper. 6 out of 10. CHECKMARK Aliens!
Day 16 Nightbreed:Director's Cut. I'd seen the original at least 5 times, but no more recently than 10 years ago so I'm not positive what is different. Still fun, and I like to think that someone is prepared to make a weekly show about the Cabal's trouble and travels. 7 out of 10. CHECKMARK Clive Barker
The Unknown (1927). Lon Chaney portrays an armless knife thrower in a gypsy circus that is drenched in longing, psychosis and head scarves. Well acted and written in a way that didn't talk down to early audiences, I hope that modern viewers give this a chance. 8 out of 10. CHECKMARK 1920's, directed by Tod Browning.
Satan's Cheerleaders (1977) See weekend 2 sub challenge.
Day 17-Killer Nun (1979) This listing on the video nasty group puzzles me, but I suppose there are a few questionable choices on the list. It was either brave of an aging Anita Eckberg to head the cast here, or filmmakers were reluctant to use her. Viewers win, as her eyes POP against the backdrop of her habit. (This works on 2 levels, if you check the flick out). The main score by Alessandro Allesandroni (not making this name up) rocks. The movie less so. 5 out of 10. CHECKMARK video nasty, hospital.
The Cat o' Nine Tails (1971) Nowhere near as Percy as the title suggests, this early Argento gets its title from a line suggesting there are multiple ways to approach the mystery at the center of the movie. This should tell you not to expect a clear narrative. This is also the movie that most disappointed Dario. If you saw anything he made after Nirvana broke out, that's saying something. Not terrible, just not rewarding. 4 out of 10. CHECKMARK giallo, Luciano Pigozzi
The Sacrament (2014). Found footage revisiting a fictional Jonestown massacre. Starts promising, goes nowhere interesting, leaves a few questions. In my rating system , less than a 4 doesn't necessarily mean a less than professional effort. It might just mean there's no reason to ever watch the film in question again. 3. CHECKMARK Ti West
Day 18-Exit Himanity (2011). The weird western that answers the question "What did SNL do with all the old Jason Sudeikas facial hair appliances". Animated/ comic art stills scenes liven things up, but all in all time dragged as I watched hoping that Dee Wallace appeared in this movie or it would have been a waste of time. I mean the main character's only companion gets bit by a zombie early in this, and it happens OFF camera. 3 of 10. CHECKMARK Dee Wallace
Scream Blacula, Scream (1973)-you have to wait 15 minutes into this gem to see the credits. At that moment I had confirmation that Pam Grier WAS in the movie! If I'd known that earlier I would've seen this year's ago. Unfortunately you don't see enough of Pam. William Marshall gives another great performance, but his "vamp out" makeup still looks like garbage. Gah. 5 out of 10. CHECKMARK blaxploitation
Day 19 Late Phases (2014). A werewolf movie with a bunch of differences. Nick Damici plays a blind Vietnam veteran being placed in a retirement community. You'd expect him to have to overcome his limitations, but that doesn't really interfere with him. The biggest struggle he (and the filmmaker) faces is how off-putting he is. It's believable that he'd put the world at a distance, but it's difficult to empathize with him. You root for him as he's fending off more or less silly looking werewolves, but you don't expect a man to survive when he makes himself an island unto himself and makes morbid quasi-suicidal statements to strangers. 6 out of 10. CHECKMARK Werewolf
Monster-a-Gogo (1965) I tuned into this because of the title/availability. Not just terrible, it's boring. Maybe the MST3K version is entertaining. 1 out of 10. CHECKMARK Monster in title
Day 20 Deathgasm (2015)- I'm all for recognition of the NZ contribution to Cinema. So I was happy to be stuck watching a musical/ horror from the land of Kiwi. A likeable enough cast in a romance I was 80% sure was going gay with bullying, metal, D&D and demons. 4 out of 10. CHECKMARK musical/ rock and roll horror
The Body Snatcher (1945) Val Lewton produces a Robert Wise directed adaption of a Robert Louis Stevenson tale. Boris Karloff steals the show as a sleazily charming "resurrection man" in a movie that is all about the Burke and Hare, not pod people. 7 out of 10. CHECKMARK Bela Lugosi
Day 21 Dreamworks Spooky Stories/ Scared Shrekless CHECKMARK 2 animated
Scream of Fear (1961) a black and white Hammer movie that plays like some strange giallo by way of Dennis Sirk. Susan Strasberg plays a wheelchair bound heroine who is the only one to spot her father's cadaver in various places around her seldom visited estate, and of course it vanishes before anyone else sees it. Hitch would've had more fun with this, Robert Wise would've made this terrifying, and William Castle would've made some kind of gimmick involving paralysis. 5 out of 10.
Day 22 Thirst (1979)-see challenge weekend #3
The Last Winter (2006)- I must've confused this movie with an arctic horror of the same release era. This movie is GOOD. The odds are against it- the movie is going to be compared to The Thing cycle the same way that all shark movies have the shadow of Jaws to contend with. Beyond the setting and its accompanying theme of isolation, the movies are very different with one crucial similarity- neither Fessenden or Carpenter have stupid characters. No one does something absolutely boneheaded and dies because...why not. There are idealogical differences in the characters, with the recognition or not of mankind's effect on his environment at the heart of it. BTW- Ron Perlman gets to do a little more heavy lifting than you normally get to see. 8 out of 10. CHECKMARK directed by Larry Fessenden, 2000's
Day 23 Santa Sangre (1989) see weekend #3
In the Realm of the Senses (1976). If you go into this true life story of Sada Abe thinking you will find much to titulate you knowing that much of the sexual is UNSIMULATED, you will probably leave this movie bored. It is so prevalent, so void of the moving camera or shaded expression that it doesn't work as simple porn. Couple this with rape, erotic asphyxiation, castration and weird food "use" and I'd advise you look elsewhere for that type of satisfaction. I don't want to debate whether or not this is pornography here, there's other Reddit forums for that. 7 out of 10. CHECKMARK NC17, foreign language #2 Japanese
Day 24 Rammbock: Berlin Undead (2010) is an apartment complex set Horror besieged by rage infected. I think there's a sense of humor at work that doesn't tickle my funny bone, but it does have some original ideas at play in a genre that you have to sift through vigorously to find anything new on display. 3 out of 10. CHECKMARK foreign language #3, German
Day 25 Super Hybrid- more than meets the eye! I...I can't do this. I fell asleep twice watching this. I can't muster up enough enthusiasm to google this to find what year it came out or dig out a detail to have fun with. 1 out of 10. CHECKMARK killer vehicle
Sleepwalkers (1992) I watched this because my roku suggested it as the only Tobe Hooper movie I hadn't seen. It also features a car that changes colo make and model. The most incest-y movie I've seen this year. Madchen Amick appears, so that's cool. CHECKMARK Tobe Hooper
Day 26 -Jogoku (1960). I had trouble with this one, in that I couldn't differentiate some of the different cast members from each other, which was exacerbated when some played multiple roles. I was patient with this film and I felt rewarded for my efforts. Some of the effects (in camera and out) made me think of experimental films, some things in this movie i doubt were ever duplicated in western film. Themes however have been lifted, and knowing viewers may delight to know which films paid homage to this. 9 out of 10 CHECKMARK directed by Nabuo Nakagawa
Day 27 Nightmare Castle (1965) Italian movie that makes nods to Hammer gothic films while casting Barbara Steele in a dual role a'la Black Sunday. We get the mental illness and incest of Poe for good measure. Somebody left Cthulhu out of the script. Probably budgetary. 6 out of 10. CHECKMARK Helga Line
Tales of Halloween (2015) I held out on this movie until late in the holiday to watch with my family while we REALLY got into the holiday. Fuck this movie, or fuck me for believing the hype or trusting RT. Not a scary anthology, with episodes coming to conclusions without the audience realizing it. The ultimate "is it in yet?" of my watches this year. 1 out of 10. CHECKMARK Barbeau-bot
Day 28 Near Dark (1987). Take some of the best cast of James Cameron's Aliens and plug them into his wife's neo-western vampire movie. Where they never say the "v" word, but DO open on a mosquito feasting on an arm. The same year that male model surfer vamps with MTV ready graphics came hit the screens in Lost Boys saw the release of this movie, where the images became indelible to anyone who played Vampire the Masquerade. Vampire nomads who looked like they loved rough, who each had different ways to feed, culminating in a vicious (but unbelievably stylized) bar brawl/massacre. When things drag, Bill Paxton gets to be the spark, chewing scenery and dialogue with delight. CONFESSION- I have seen this movie before. It turns out I've seen every Paxton horror available. 8 out of 10. CHECKMARK Bill Paxton. -------------COMPLETE----------
Day 29 Butter on the Latch (2013)- arthaus! I feel I need a black turtleneck, more facial hair and a Gauloise to discuss Josephine Decker's movie. Improvised dialogue, recorded in the next zip code minus the subtitles forced me to rely on lip reading to decipher what the actors TOLD me was going on. Which would've been fine if the camera was interested in keeping them in focus, or keeping the face in frame, or acting like the action was more interesting than watching a banana slug climb on a garbage can. Which, BTW, the cameraman does follow, and the editor kept in the film. Is this a director's artistic vision or did the rest of the cast and crew mutiny and this is the best of what was shot? 3 out of 10, but I would like to see another movie by Decker in the future.
Day 30 The Velvet Vampire The Crypt of the Vampire - see Weekend Challenge #4 for details on both viewings.
Day 31 Night of the Living Dead (1968). Thanks George. 10 out of 10. Not my first viewing.
