Be lonely, watch her, look her up and down, have a little fun. Leave. Every week you come back, tip, she says your name and thanks you. You get a little more used to her, you become a regular in the chat.
She's hot, you like her. You don't have any other female attention in your life. You tip more, it's normalized. You see other guys doing it, why shouldn't you? No one in the chat is saying how weird this is. Certainly a lot of other guys do this and just don't talk about it.
Eventually you do a private 1 on 1 with her. She tells you how mean her bf is to her and how lucky she is to have you and all the guys that tip her. You tip her more. You start checking in on her Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
Your income can't keep up, she always tells you how she's in dire financial straits and so stressed. Her boyfriend cheats on her all the time. You tip her more, you hope she can get out of the situation she's in.
She tells you she's trying, you tip enough that she gives you her number. You start texting her while you're at work, thinking about her. She slips you a few naughty pictures here and there, it almost feels like a real relationship. She's even sent you a few regular clothes shots. Two nights a week after work you're doing a private 1 on 1 cam show with her. It's not even sexually anymore, she's just telling you all about her life.
You start falling behind on your mortgage. You refinance and take out a second mortgage to keep tipping her. Eventually, you forget to pay the water bill, but that's okay. You start going to work a little earlier to take showers in the office. No one notices. Things at work aren't going well. You start staying later but you're texting her telling this. She's telling you how she's having a lot of trouble, too, and just needs a little bit more money to get by. You tip her more. This continues for months.
You start to fall behind on your mortgage but you feel guilty, she keeps telling you she just needs a little bit more money. Whenever you stop tipping her? She sends you selfies. Sometimes you see bruises, you ask her about it. She says it's from camming, but you think you know better. You ask her how much it'd be to leave? She says how much. It's a lot. You think about it, you take a loan out of your 401k, you give it to her. You tell her to leave.
You think it's over. She's not on for a few days, then a week, then two weeks. Just when you think she's escaped, she's camming again. You can't afford it anymore, the bank forecloses on you, you lose your house. You get a gym membership and start living in your car. She keeps texting you, asking where you've been. Telling you how much she's missing you. You say you lost internet, but you promise her you'll be back. She leaves you hearts and kisses and tells you how much she misses you.
You have to find a place for WiFi. The cam site is blocked at the library and McDonalds. You finally find a way to steal from someone's unsecured WiFi network. You finally get back on, and start tipping her. Now that you don't own a house, well, it's not a money issue anymore. You try to keep your car nice, but it's hard to watch her on your laptop and tip her like you used to.
You need to make more money, you can see how hard she's struggling. One of your coworkers tells you about some dark web site. You look it up. It sells a lot of illegal stuff. You buy some, getting it delivered to the neighbor's house. Your coworker gives you an intro, you start reselling. You have some cash flow now, but you can't deposit it at a bank, she has a PO box. You start mailing her cash with your screenname.
You start falling behind at work, you start using for a little edge. It starts out just on Mondays, but then you're using a bit more, and a bit more, and a bit more. It's not long until the only thing getting you through the week is doing drugs, watching her stream and slinging dope. You start buying burner phones with data and you use the mobile data on the phones to watch her streams.
That's how it all went down, really. You didn't know it but one of your buyers was undercover and they traced your burner. The subpoenaed the website, got your credit card number, and found the unsecured WiFi network you were using.
You're in jail now, trying to get released on bail. You give your friend this number, 8675309, and tell him just to text her that you're in jail and that you're really sorry. Your friend, trying to be understanding, tells you he will do it.
You find out months later that he started talking to her, she told him her situation and everything you did for her. A few years later and your friend is in jail with you, too. At least you're not alone now.
Camgirls. Not even once.

Every NFL week, we'll go game by game and name a Play and a Fade for each contest. Plays and fades are relative to their consensus rankings and salaries on DraftKings and FanDuel. Meaning the Play will not always be the player I expect to have the most fantasy points for a given game and the Fade will not always be a player I expect to get zero snaps.
Miami Dolphins vs Jacksonville Jaguars PLAY: James Robinson The Jacksonville Jaguars like to have a workhorse running back and have made it clear that James Robinson is the guy for them. The undrafted rookie RB is averaging a solid 5.1 YPC on 32 carries. The Miami Dolphins have been decent against the run, but I expect the Jags to hop in front of this one and give Robinson a large workload.
FADE: Keelan Cole Keelan Cole has been on fire to start the season. 11 catches for 105 yards and 2 TDs in Week 1 and Week 2 combined. However, those 11 catches came on 12 targets. I am not expecting Cole to keep up that type of efficiency. DJ Chark has been lightly used to start the season and I'm expecting more targets to go his way as the season goes on. Odds are Cole does not complete the hat trick and find the endzone for the 3rd week in a row.
Chicago Bears vs Atlanta Falcons PLAY: Allen Robinson II Allen Robinson has been lackluster, to say the least. He hasn't found the endzone yet this season and has barely surpassed 100 yards receiving. Although, he has seen some positive usage with 18 targets across Week 1 and Week 2. The trade rumors are behind us and now in Week 3, he goes up against a leaky Atlanta Falcons defense. I'm expecting a nice bounce-back here for A-Rob.
FADE: Matt Ryan Matty Ice tore up the first two weeks throwing for 6 TDs and 700+ yards passing while only tossing one interception. His weapons may be as good as he’s ever had with Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Russell Gage at WR, Hayden Hurst at TE, and Todd Gurley II in the backfield. BUT, the Falcons are coming off of a devastating Week 2 loss against the Cowboys and now have to face a good Chicago Bears defense. The Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 and the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 were both great matchups for game flow. The Chicago Bears are a different opponent. Did someone press the sim button? I expect the clock to be running often in this one. Matty Ice may have a couple of TDs, but the yardage won't be there.
Los Angeles Rams vs Buffalo Bills PLAY: Cooper Kupp Tyler Higbee hogged all the TDs in Week 2 and Malcolm Brown hogged all the TDs in Week 1. Similar to Bill Belichick, Sean McVay is a master at finding what works and riding that strategy until his opponent figures it out. Rumor has it McVay grew up playing Blitz the video game and couldn't be stopped with "Da Bomb". Why would you run any other play when you can't be stopped? I'm expecting Cooper Kupp to be the beneficiary this week against the Buffalo Bills. I'm a fan of the Bills defense, but they let up big numbers to Jam Crowder in Week 1 and Mike Gesicki in Week 2.
FADE: Stefon Diggs Stefon Diggs has been a stud. 16 receptions on 22 targets for 239 yards and 1 TD in the first two weeks. He's quickly built chemistry with Josh Allen and it's showing. I'm expecting the Rams to focus on Stefon Diggs which will open up some opportunities for John Brown and Cole Beasley. I love Diggs in season-long, but I'm being cautious with him for DFS in Week 3.
Washington Football Team vs Cleveland Browns PLAY: Logan Thomas The Logan Thomas hype team went all out in the lead up to Week 2. Everyone in the fantasy industry only had positive things to say about the guy. And then he was a full dud… catching 4 passes for 26 yards. Brutal stat line. However, he did see 9 targets. I’m expecting the targets to be there again in Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns and this week he’ll scoop them in and rack up bigger numbers.
FADE: Nick Chubb Nick Chubb looked awesome in Week 2. He’s a stud. I just don’t trust the Cleveland Browns…. That is all. You’re obviously starting him in any season-long league, but I’d like to have exposure elsewhere in DFS.
Tennessee Titans vs Minnesota Vikings PLAY: Justin Jefferson Does Adam Thielen have 5 defensive backs on him every time he goes out for a route? That’s the way it feels. The Minnesota Vikings and Kirk Cousins have to catch on. I love Thielen, but I’m expecting the Vikings to pivot and spread the ball around. The first-round rookie draft pick Justin Jefferson is my pick to click in Week 3 for the Vikings. He’s been efficient in his first two weeks with 5 receptions on 6 targets for 70 yards.
FADE: Adam Thielen See the above thoughts on Justin Jefferson. Mike Vrabel is going to throw the kitchen sink at Adam Thielen in an attempt to shut him down. If the Vikings can get ahead and Dalvin Cook gets hot early, Adam Thielen may get free for some play-action passes.
Las Vegas Raiders vs New England Patriots PLAY: Julian Edelman The fantasy community wrote Julian Edelman off once Tom Brady left town. Sunday night against the Seahawks he went off and showed why he is a Super Bowl MVP. He seems to be the same target/reception machine he’s always been even with Cam Newton throwing him the ball. This massive game for Edelman was not a blip on the radar.
FADE: Damiere Byrd In Week 1, Damiere Byrd had a goose egg. In Week 2, he came to play posting 6 catches for 72 yards on 9 targets. In Week 3, I think we’re looking at another goose egg. They won’t need to keep up with the Raiders the same way they had to keep up with the Seahawks. I know the Raiders are coming off of a big win against the Saints, but now they have a short week and have to prepare for Bill Belichick.
San Francisco 49ers vs New York Giants PLAY: Giants DEF The 49ers offense is beat up. At the time of this writing, I’m not expecting any of Jimmy G, Raheem Mostert, George Kittle, or Deebo Samuel to play. The NYG’s defense could be a sneaky start. The opening line is 49ers -4 points.
FADE: Jordan Reed Jordan Reed had a great Week 2 with George Kittle sidelined and hauled in 2 TDs. He looked like the elite receiving target we all know the uninjured Jordan Reed to be. Unfortunately for Reed, both of those TDs were thrown by Jimmy G. I’m not trusting Reed in Week 3 if Mullens is taking snaps. Obviously, this point is moot if Jimmy G does in fact play.
Cincinnati Bengals vs Philadelphia Eagles PLAY: AJ Green Fantasy owners were psyched to see what a healthy AJ Green could do. Especially with the rookie Joe Burrow throwing him the ball. Thursday Night Football against the Browns was a major disappointment. It was impossible to scroll through Twitter that night without coming across the AJ Green hate hype. AJ Green ended up with 3 catches for 29 yards on 13 targets! It was clear Joe Burrow was trying to force him the ball, but the connection was just not there.
I happen to be a buyer of AJ Green. 22 targets in 2 games is hard to ignore AND he has a good quarterback. Joe Burrow is the real deal. It’s just a matter of time before these two start moving the ball down the field and into the endzone.
FADE: DeSean Jackson The Eagles have looked bad, but the Bengals have looked worse. I’m expecting a big day for the TE duo and Miles Sanders. The Eagles are most likely going to be playing ahead in this one. DeSean Jackson is going to have to get going early if he wants to rack up any stats.
Houston Texans vs Pittsburgh Steelers PLAY: JuJu Smith-Schuster JuJu is looking at a big bounce-back week in Week 3 against the Houston Texans. He caught 7 of his 8 targets in Week 2, but it only added up to 48 yards and 0 touchdowns. Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool, and James Conner took all the TDs and had the big plays for the Steelers. The Steelers offense is looking decent now that Big Ben is back. JuJu should get his share of big plays and get in the endzone in Week 3.
FADE: Deshaun Watson Deshaun Watson hasn’t been good. To make matters worse, it looks like he will not have the often injured Will Fuller in Week 3. I’m avoiding Watson until he shows any sign of life. I could see a case for him in GPPs if you’re looking for a low owned option at QB, but it’s a meta play I’m not going to make. Deandre Hopkins is laughing his way to Week 3 at 2-0.
New York Jets vs Indianapolis Colts PLAY: Jonathan Taylor Jonathan Taylor is a chalky call, but it’s hard to find anyone playable in this matchup. I had Jonathan Taylor as a play in Week 2’s Plays and Fades, but I was not expecting that massive usage he got in Week 2. He finished the game with 26 carries and out-touched Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins by a wide margin.
FADE: TY Hilton TY Hilton was a fade in Week 2’s Plays and Fades. We’re going to fade him again. He hasn’t shown any chemistry with Phil Rivers. This is another situation that I’m avoiding until I see any positive signs here. Playing TY is a blind dart throw.
Carolina Panthers vs Los Angeles Chargers PLAY: Keenan Allen Keenan Allen is back! And by that I mean he has Justin Herbert throwing him the ball. Herbert looked mechanical back there like a robot programmed to play QB. With HerBot as the QB, Keenan Allen had 7 receptions for 96 yards on 10 targets. This is going to be a landslide victory for the Chargers going up against a McCaffrey-less Carolina Panthers. Keenan Allen will get his.
Note: Anthony Lynn has suggested Tyrod Taylor may still be the starting QB. Nothing against Tyrod Taylor, but I’m not buying what Lynn is selling. If Tyrod does indeed start, I take back Keenan Allen as a “Play”. Unless of course Tyrod plays and Keenan Allen has a good game. In that case, I’m sticking to it.
FADE: Mike Davis Mike Davis is going to be chalky this weekend at RB. He secured all 8 of his targets for 74 yards in Week 2 and had a nice week. He’s the likely benefactor with Christian McCaffrey out. The “fade” is purely coming from a DFS perspective on this one. I’m avoiding him Week 3 because I think he’ll be highly owned. I’m playing Mike Davis in cash and fading him in GPPs. If he’s on waivers, grab him.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Denver Broncos PLAY: Leonard Fournette Leonard Fournette is clearly the best talent in the Bucs backfield. It was just a matter of time before he became the de facto lead back. He out-touched Ronald Jones by a slim margin, but he took his opportunities and ran with them. 12 carries for 103 yards and 2 TDs for Fournette vs 7 carries for 23 yards and a TD for RoJo in Week 2. I’m expecting them to lean more and more on Fournette when push comes to shove.
FADE: Tom Brady I’m not on the “Tom Brady hasn’t looked like himself yet” kick. I think he looks fine and is helping his team win. The Bucs are a work in progress and they’re going to get better and better as the season goes on. I’m fading him from a fantasy football perspective in Week 3 as I’m not expecting big numbers from Brady. The injuries at the WR position aren’t helping. After Week 3, he may be a nice buy-low opportunity in season-long.
Detroit Lions vs Arizona Cardinals PLAY: Kyler Murray Kyler Murray’s passing stats have been mediocre at best, but luckily for him, he’s a stud running the football. In two games he already has 158 yards rushing and 3 TDs! When it comes to juicy matchups, the Detroit Lions are as juicy as it gets. Kyler Murray is going to go off Week 3 and take the Arizona Cardinals to 3-0.
FADE: TJ Hockenson TJ Hockenson was a fade in Week 2’s Plays and Fades. He’s here as a fade again in Week 3 for the same reason. The usage is just not there. Hockenson has to be extremely efficient to turn his limited targets into production. He has caught all 9 of his targets for 118 yards and 1 TD so far this season. Even with the high efficiency, the production is mediocre.
Dallas Cowboys vs Seattle Seahawks PLAY: Dak Prescott It was hard to pick a “play” in this one. Everyone looks like a good play. This game is ripe for fantasy greatness.
FADE: Chris Carson It was hard to pick a “fade” as well. I’m expecting a high scoring affair with most of the action in the passing game. I don’t feel strongly about this one and could see it backfiring.
Green Bay Packers vs New Orleans Saints PLAY: Alvin Kamara There is a strong case for Alvin Kamara to be the #1 overall pick in redraft leagues. He’s a stat monster and the Saints know how to use him. The Packers DEF have already allowed 3 rushing TDs against opposing RBs this season. I’m expecting Kamara to have another multi-touchdown game.
FADE: Aaron Jones In Week 2’s Plays and Fades, we faded Josh Jacobs against the Saints on MNF and received a lot of hate for it. Jacobs had a touchdown-less 105 yards on 30 touches… The game flow was there and he didn’t do much with it. I’m a buyer of this Saints DEF against opposing RBs. That’s where this fade is coming from.
Aaron Jones was the clear MVP of Week 2 from a fantasy football perspective. His performance brought W’s to fantasy owners and $’s to DFS players. People are going to blindly fire him up in there Week 3 lineups, but this is a tough matchup for him.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Baltimore Ravens PLAY: Lamar Jackson Lamar Jackson hasn’t been great from a fantasy perspective this year. He set the bar extremely high with his 2019 showing. But this a Monday Night Football game of Patrick Mahomes vs Lamar Jackson. ESPN (and the refs) will make sure this one lives up to the hype. Lamar Jackson will be special.
FADE: Mark Ingram II JK Dobbins was the Week 2 fade in the Baltimore Ravens game. That obviously turned out to be the right call. I’m still buying Ingram as the lead back for the Ravens, but it’s too crowded to feel comfortable firing him up in your lineups. Gus Edwards got a lot of play and JK Dobbins looked unreal when he was in. The only fantasy owners feeling good about this backfield are JK Dobbins dynasty owners.

Summary: Fighting immortals is a sweetheart job for someone obsessed with the afterlife. Dying on the job, however, is cutting it too close. However, Julian's curiosity with the great beyond pushes him a little too far, back to the land of the living and cursed with a newly damned soul, just like the immortals he's sworn to fight...

Espionage may as well have been Matti’s middle name for how well he took to it. It wasn’t, of course, his middle name. That dubious honor went to Casimir, probably the name of someone important in his family, which he’d have learned if he’d had ever thought to grill his parents. He hadn’t though, not in the sixteen years he’d lived under their roof, nor in the following four years of school. And he certainly hadn’t asked when he started sniper school nor since officially enlisting. He hadn’t spoken to them since. Too dangerous.
And dangerous was how Matti liked it. He was yet to have a real reason to believe his life was in danger and until he felt that, he had no problem pushing the envelope.
Which is why he was perched in the back of a helicopter heading out to Munich on a mission intended to intercept one of the deadliest immortals at an active civilian airport with nearly two dozen soldiers, some of whom were legally dead, while most were shoot-on-sight traitors.
Could it get any better?
“Find anything, Matti?” a cool voice asked in his ear.
“Clear for now, Pooja.” He gave the Colonel a reassuring smile and she nodded, returning to the cockpit. Last names had never suited him and as a renegade, he wasn’t obligated to use them. It was easier to empathize with an Amy or Markus than with a Brown or Khan. Knowing the name they heard from friends and family humanized them and that was important when lives were on the line.
They usually just thought he was being cocky and rude and he had no need to dispel that theory because, as a renegade, they were going to think he was an arrogant prick anyway. It wasn’t even really a lie, so…
The helicopter they all sat in—Matti, Julian, Pooja and her two operatives, Kyline, and her squad—was borrowed from Omicron HQ. No way could Schmidtt’s usual helicopter fit the nearly two dozen agents, so Pooja had pulled some strings. There was enough room to comfortably walk around, especially with the others mostly strapped in, a fact that Matti gladly took advantage of, roaming from window to window, popping up his binoculars to scan for any aircraft that might be flying under the radar.
He’d been disappointed so far.
In between his little lookout sessions, he’d make small talk with various operatives. Pooja didn’t like chatting when on a mission, Kyline hated his guts, and the other scientists he usually hung out with were, for obvious reasons, not here, so ‘various operatives’ mostly meant Julian.
“Gotta admit, when you said you had some questions for me, I wasn’t expecting this,” Julian said after Matti’s third round.
“Am I boring you?” Matti tilted his head.
Julian laughed, always a good sign. “No. But unless this is some weird renegade interrogation tactic, I don’t know why you care about my favorite breakfast food.”
Matti gave him a cool look. “I’ve watched you very carefully since joining the Fleursurgents. I need to make sure your answers align with what I’ve seen.” It was a terribly blatant lie, but not one Matti really cared about guarding. If Julian chose to see through it, good on him. Reality was, Matti just liked getting to know his charges.
Julian squinted. “Fleursurgents?”
“Come on. Fleur Insurgents is a mouthful and there are a ton of repeated syllable sounds there. It’s only natural that you should work a portmanteau in there. Saves time.”
“Lotta big words from someone with a STEM degree. Maybe you should have gone into linguistics.” Julian grinned, and unless it was Matti’s imagination, seemed to relax a bit.
Matti lifted a shoulder. “Linguistics wouldn’t have gotten me a job here. Besides, I didn’t go to an English speaking school.”
“Clearly, or you’d have caught the better portmanteau: Infleurgents.”
This took Matti aback quite a bit, because Julian was absolutely correct. That one was far superior. “I take my hat off to you. We’re now the Infleurgents. Clearly your English skills make mine look paltry.”
“Well, it was my first language.” He shifted in his seat, probably trying to make the helicopter seat feel more comfortable. “You said a linguistics degree wouldn’t have gotten you a job here. Did you know about this place when starting college?”
There were a few options for how an AngelThana operative might have gotten involved in the organization. A bulk of the scientists were poached from the public facing front: a nanotech organization that privately manufactured weapons and also somehow did some work with biotech. It was often scrutinized for guzzling research money and turning out rather few results but that was kind of the point of a public facing front. It’s just that the public didn’t know that. Hence ‘front’.
Then there were military poaches, outstanding soldiers who were approached at the conclusion of their official government military contracts. Outside of these poached soldiers, AngelThana rarely allowed for transfers to military units if the employee hadn’t been with the company for a minimum of three years, which explained why the minimum age of active combatants was 21 and not most military’s standard 18.
Then there were the nuts. AngelThana sent representatives out to anyone who found out about the immortals organically, whether from personal experience or obsessive web research. That’s how Matti got involved. He’d spent the greater part of his childhood chasing down conspiracies online because that’s about all there was to do in a northern European village, population: twelve, where the sun came up twice a year. He’d discovered some paper trails and various web footage that showed the same few people involved in a host of different terrorist attacks across the globe, a conspiracy he was surprised no one else pointed out.
It turned out no one pointed it out because AngelThana scrubbed the internet from all information of the immortals, with a rather impressive tech division. This was originally what they scouted him for until pretty much everyone realized he was a crap hacker. By that point, he’d requested a transfer to sniper school and anyone involved agreed it was for the best.
Most of the people on the helicopter had been in the second boat, sniped from their own government’s military. On the books, they were ‘security’ officers.
Julian was, as with most scientists, from the first group. He’d been scouted because of his academic work and pressured into taking the job with AngelThana.
“My official transfer to the internal department was about a month into my onboarding on the face department.” Julian had that glint in his eyes that the PhDs always got when they were about to launch into a lecture, and Matti braced himself. “The day they pulled me in and explained that honest to god immortals existed, well I thought I’d gone crazy.”
“Really? You didn’t think they had?”
Julian shook his head. “No! I’d always suspected so when my theories were confirmed, my mind was blown. It was like falling into a dream I’d had.”
“Lapinksy! Back on your post. You’ve had weeks to make idle chit chat. This is not the time.” Pooja’s scolding turned all the heads in the chopper to Matti, who smiled back at her, jumping to his feet in a solute.
“Copy that, Colonel.” There would also be time for idle chit chat later, so he had no qualms with resuming his watch.
“Alright we’re approaching our drop point,” Pooja announced, some few, uneventful hours later. “We’re officially on non-essential cargo pickup, so keep that in mind. Grace, prep your unit, but I want them down and out of sight until signaled.”
Kyline saluted in acknowledgement, her face rigid.
“The cargo pickup is scheduled to happen at eight hundred hours, so we’re here plenty early and should be able to get all of you off before they load us up.” Pooja began walking up and down the aisle of the ship, making eye contact with every single person on board. “I’ll be staying on board to handle the loading, with Schmidtt and Lapinksy. You’ll take your orders from the Sergeant and in the case of her incapacitation, your chain of command will fall to Agent Xing, Agent Jha, field medic LeDuc…” The chain of command was something they’d all been briefed on but redundancy may as well be synonymous with procedure because whenever someone said ‘follow the proper process’ it meant they wanted to you use enough fallbacks and extraneous measures that you probably could have accomplished three times your goal if you’d just checked something once or twice.
But for all their traitorous nature, the Infleurgents still followed their god damned processes to a T. Whatever. Matti didn’t technically need to know who to listen to but unfortunately for his ego, the chain of command usually made too much sense to ignore, so he rarely did.
The helicopter touched down at a tiny regional airport in the early hours of the morning, probably close to five hundred hours, as light as a feather per Schmidtt’s usual. He radioed in their arrival to the incognito convoy that was bringing whatever equipment Pooja had maneuvered into being their ‘target’. They reported that they were still about two hours out, which Schmidtt confirmed on radar scans.
“Copy that, we’ll be waiting.” Then Pooja looked up at Matti. “Give us a visual perimeter, make sure the area is clear of personnel or civilians.” She turned to Kyline. “At Lapinsky’s signal, take your men to the far parking lot. The convoy was instructed to leave one truck behind so that we could unload our cargo. Which…” She waved a hand at the soldiers, “is all of you. So stay out of sight until Grace gives the command. Understood?”
A host of salutes confirmed comprehension. Matti eyed Pooja and tossed her a slightly more casual salute before slipping into the night.
For once, the lack of complications wasn’t boring. The presence of civilians would have dramatically slowed down the offloading, suspicions from the convoy would have just caused drama, and if any of Kyline’s soldiers had been spotted, it would have really been disastrous.
All told, Pooja’s plan went without a hitch and soon Schmidt was flying away with whatever cargo they’d used as an excuse to hide their illicit actions. Matti sat in the back of the remaining convoy truck, squished with the others. These things were supposed to seat a dozen. While Matti, Julian, Xing Luli, the Iota agent, were slim enough to count for half a person, they simply had too many people on board for the drive to be comfortable. But comfort wasn’t a requisite so no one complained about being cramped too much.
The real issue was the lack of space to put on their disguises. AngelThana lacked the resources to intensely scrutinize every security cam feed on the planet to scan for faces that matched certain criteria. So the group didn’t have to worry too much about being spotted by the sophisticated software needed to match their specific face shapes and retina scans. But that didn’t mean they could slack off. They’d still need to play dress up to fool any AngelThana member who happened to be casually watching the MUC feeds in their downtime.
There were precious few people on board who knew enough about hair and makeup to make a convincing change to faces, so each agent had to wait quite a bit for their turn. Something to change complexion, darken or bright eyes, maybe thicken the look of facial hair.
“Do me dirty,” Matti said as he pushed past Private Amelie Silva for his turn. He scrunched his eyes closed in preparation for the assault on his face.
“Don’t do that with your eyes,” Pooja said, as he heard her swishing around some bottle of something probably wet and sticky. “It’ll make it uneven.” Pooja, along with Henri LaForge and Edmund Howard, was one of the only confident enough with her makeup skills to do anything convincing on the soldiers. “Hold still.” A bright light blasted his eyelids as another of the soldiers shone a flashlight at him.
“We should have brought Sofia,” Matti said, trying hard not to move his mouth. “She could make every guy in here a girl and vice versa.”
“Matti keep your mouth shut or you’re going to look like more of a mess than you normally do.” After a far too long period of getting paint slathered and smeared on his face, his nails and hands squished, his hair pulled tight and hidden under a wig, Pooja thrust an armful of clothes in his hands. “What do you think?”
The question was a little too amused for Matti’s liking and he cracked an eyelid to see the private holding the flashlight was openly smirking.
“He did say he wanted to be a girl. Think you did a mighty good job there, Colonel.”
The other eyelid snapped open. “I need a mirror. Now.”
Pooja held up one and Matti stared at himself. He wasn’t a girl, probably. Not technically. But he also saw where the private was coming from. “Pooja, you know ‘scene’ hasn’t been in since the early 2000s, right?” He twisted one of the silky, unnaturally platinum locks around a finger.
“We’re active members.” She shooed him to the side to start her next victim. “So our looks need to be a bit more dramatically changed. Us and Blake. If you’re going heavy makeup, you have to make it look intentional. That’s why you have the eyeliner. You’re now Alexi Petroff, 16 years old, so you’ve got to look like it.”
“Great. Back to being an edgy teen.” He didn’t really mind the look but it was far from comfortable. “What dramatic bit are you doing?”
“Inaya Hasmi, 34, traveling with my husband Tahir.” She pointed a bit away where Vikas Jha, the other Iota agent, was getting minimal makeup work done. “I’ll have a bit of work done but most of my face will be hidden.”
“Lucky. Would be nice if we all could just go the religious veil route.” Matti tapped at his face to see if his makeup had dried.
Pooja cocked an eyebrow. “Would have made us all the more likely to be stopped by airport security. Don’t need to increase those odds. Alright, you’re done Shanti.”
“Fucking most disgusting thing I ever got on my face,” he grumbled.
“Shut up, Shanti,” Matti said, almost absentmindedly. The private needled him with a glare before moving on.
“We kind of switched colors,” Julian remarked as he settled down next to Matti. The previously sandy haired man now had cropped dark crew cut, so convincing that Matti couldn’t imagine how his real hair had fit under it. His previously green eyes were now blue, much like how Matti’s blue had changed to green.
“Who did yours?” Matti asked.
“LaForge. Man did theatre through his entire education. I guess it shows but god my head feels like it’s about to explode.” Julian’s hand hovered near his scalp as if itching to itch it.
“Not a finger!” shouted LaForge from about eight feet away where he was twisting Luli’s hair into a tight ponytail. “Or I’ll cut it off.”
“Would he get back?” asked another private.
Julian’s body sagged as his hand dropped. “Here they go.”
The questions, jokes, and jabs flowed through the truck, lightening up the mood at the expense of Julian’s.
“You’re not a fan?” Matti asked. “You can’t deny, there are some good questions in there.”
“Yeah but they don’t want answers, they just want to snicker.” Julian sighed, crossing his arms. “But I’m starting to learn to tune it out.”
Even Matti had to admit that, after two more hours of the soldiers coming up with increasingly stupid puns, it had gotten old. He fiddled with his rifle, knowing that it would soon be locked in a very special crate, the kind that AngelThana routinely used to smuggle weapons through airports, past border patrols, and into government events. Matti didn’t like departing with his beloved rifle but there would be no keeping it on him.
The sun had long risen now as the truck pulled into a long term parking lot, advertised as being ‘mere kilometers from MUC!’ From there, the group split into teams, each with their own mission plans.
Pooja took Vikas, her husband, and the two headed the short walk to the public transport. Six of the soldiers, all dressed as spring breakers, flooded to the closest rental car place.
Matti checked his ID and the instructions on his phone giving him a rundown of Alexi Pertoff.
“I’m traveling with my father and girlfriend, huh? Haven’t had one of those in a while.” He looked up at the remaining operatives. Shanti and Henri were brothers, Amelie and Edmund were also dating. A few others were traveling solo. Then his eyes fell on Luli, Pooja’s Iota agent. She fixed him with a long once over.
“We’re dating?” she asked. In all fairness, she probably wasn’t much older than he was and with the high ponytail with a red streak in it, the loose bangs around her face, and too much eye makeup, she could absolutely pass for 17 or 18.
“I guess so. Which just leaves… dad.” He grinned as Julian looked down at his ID.
“Ah. Pieter Pertoff. 38” He looked up at the two agents as the remaining operatives sped off on their predetermined methods of transportation. “Never thought much of having kids…”
“God I must be like, the biggest disappointment to you.” Matti examined his nails, which were all black except for a red nail on each middle finger. Then he looked up at Julian’s tight crew cut and the lines on his face, artfully exaggerated by LaForge’s handiwork.
Luli laughed at the start contrast that couldn’t hide enough of a similarity between the two men to hint at their relation. “Alright then, team,” she said. “Let’s get our car and get to the airport. We’ve got an invasion to stop.”
Chapter 12
Julian could already tell that Matti and Luli were amused at his reaction but he couldn’t help being more than a little apprehensive about playing a father role to the sniper. The two agents shared looks in the back seat of the rental car Julian was driving.
“Do you think I need an accent? It’s Russian, right? I can try a— hold up.” Julian cleared his throat and centered himself, trying his best to adopt the accent of one of the Russian agents. “Ok, how’s this?”
“God no. Please no.” Matti exchanged another look with Luli. Julian hadn’t dealt much with the agent since they’d first flown to Fleur, an experience Julian wanted to leave far behind him, but she was a lot more pleasant when she wasn’t holding a gun to his head.
“You’ll blow our cover immediately.” Her voice, meanwhile, had shifted from its previously Chinese accent to a completely American accent. “Keep your American accent. In case you haven’t noticed, both our passports are American. His is Russian. You immigrated to the states young and lived there your whole life. You met your wife, a Russian woman, but after your relationship went poorly, she took the kid and moved back to Russia. She sends him over to you for summers and other various breaks. It was during one such visit that he met me.”
“The three of us are spending holiday in Russia,” Matti said. “After the trip, Luli and I are staying with my mom in Moscow.”
It took Julian a moment to internalize this. “Why wasn’t I told any of this?”
“It’s in your briefing.” Matti pointed to his phone. “You probably didn’t scroll. Don’t worry, most people actually don’t ask about your backstory.”
“Yeah but in case—”
“Look at it this way,” Luli said. “Lapinsky and I are far more likely to be given side eyes or comments. This was intentional, to draw attention from you.”
“Just be a disappointed father.” Matti glanced at his phone for another moment before tapping a few buttons. “Ok, now, names. I need you to recite them, learn them by heart.”
It was kind of weird taking orders from someone who was supposed to be his son. The two were probably only ten years apart in age. Luli was even closer, probably less than five years younger than him.
“Ok. Ok, you’re Alexi. She’s Tara. Alexi and Tara. Alexi Petroff and Tara Wang.”
“Mr. Pertoff? Mr. Pertoff, Alexi says it’s ok if we get Starbucks. We’ll be right back.”
“Mom says it’s ok if I get snakebites and you said I could get anything I wanted for my 17th birthday if it was under 50 dollars. I know this one place that does them for cheap and she’s ok with it.”
The two went back and forth, with Julian’s knuckles getting whiter on the steering wheel each time one added a new line to their newfound family’s canon.
“I’m uh, just not gonna say much, ok kids?”
The two grinned back at him in the rearview mirror, clearly very into their roles.
“Whatever dad.”
~~~
They spent the remaining half hour of their trip going over all the signals that he’d have to remember. It didn’t sound half bad while they were driving, chatting lightly about the operation, but the minute they stepped from the car and entered the airport, the giggles stopped. Alexi and Tara were apparently the brooding type of teens who didn’t say much but stayed weirdly entwined with each other. Julian was ok with that. His palms were already damp and he was going to probably give away his nerves when he had to raise his hands during security.
A million ‘what ifs’ flashed through his head as the three clunked through security. Previously Julian had been primarily in hot water just with AngelThana but with this little stunt he also marked himself as a legitimate felon.
Yet they cruised through without a hitch, not even when examining their various backpacks or cases of randomly assorted goods. Julian’s nerves were hopefully explained by the outlandish appearance of his traveling companions. No crew-cut sporting dad wanted to be seen in public with his offspring looking so… alternative.
As the three made it to their gate, Julian’s mind immediately jumped to the others. After all, there were six groups that had to make it through without any suspicion. Any one of them getting caught could spell disaster for the whole operation, casting unneeded attention on the whole area. Not only would local authorities get involved, but AngelThana’s watchful eye might fall on them. Even worse, Lady Helga would likely abandon her efforts, leaving them no closer to apprehending her and now completely in the dark about her next plans.
It had to go without a hitch.
“I need to pee.” There was a distinct whine to her voice and Julian was struck with how easy it was to remember that the woman pulling a dramatic pout with heavy lipstick was a grown adult who had killed and probably watched her fellow agents die. “Where’s the closest bathroom?”
This was a signal and Julian grunted, getting to his feet. “Should probably all go.” Every word in Julian’s mouth felt unbelievably forced. He scrutinized every sentence. Why would a father want to accompany his son and son’s girlfriend to the bathroom? Was that weird? Creepy? Did it make sense at all?
The casual shrugs and eyerolls from his charges smoothed over his rocky sentence but he still felt the eyes of the airport on him as they strolled down the hallway to the restrooms.
“Take your time,” Luli said before disappearing into the ladies’ room.
The mens’ room was, thankfully, empty.
“No cameras,” Matti said, after doing a thorough search. “I’m splitting off soon, once I get my toys. If you see me, something’s gone wrong.” He grinned and Julian had no doubt that the sniper couldn’t picture a world where something had gone wrong. “Tara will stick with you, so continue to take your lead from her.”
Julian took the momentary privacy to let out a long breath and shake out his hands. “I hate this.”
“I, on the other hand, love it.” Matti was peering at himself in the mirror, eyes glinting over the various changes in his appearance. “You’ll have to get used to it.”
“I’d rather not have to do this again,” he muttered, staring at his face next to Matti’s. It was a lot greyer than the renegade’s.
“We’re not getting more operatives, so anymore injured or lost, and your attendance will be mandatory.”
Julian shook his head. “If I get caught in one of those things, I’ll get trapped in limbo for god knows how long. I’m not risking that.”
“Oh yes, comparatively the rest of us have nothing to risk.” Matti looked at Julian’s reflection, eyes unexpectedly hard. “None of us want to die. We’re not disposable grunts or whatever narrative you’ve constructed in your head. Any one of Kyline’s soldiers would take a bullet to save you from capture but just remember, they’re losing more from that than you. Their sacrifice is because you’re of more strategic value but don’t think for a minute that you’ve got more intrinsic value.” Then the look vanished, replaced by a casual smile. “Humanize your teammates. Keeps people alive.” He glanced at his watch. “Oh good, Tara’s almost here.”
Julian, briefly forgetting who Tara was, stared at Matti blankly in the mirror for another second before the younger man rolled his eyes and headed for the door.
“Right. Tara.” The scolding had hit him from left field but it was a valid point and Julian felt a little sick at how self centered he’d gotten. Military operations weren’t fun in the slightest. “She’s coming in here—”
His question was truncated by the door bursting open. A woman entered, pushing a cleaning cart. She turned, slapping down a ‘cleaning, don’t enter’ sign, before shutting the door behind her.
It took the woman sliding open the cart and unloading a pistol for herself, a pistol and sniper rifle for Matti, and thrusting a pistol into Julian’s hands for him to recognize Luli.
“I didn’t realize you’d be changing,” he said, still staring at the gun.
“Take your weapon. Lapinsky did say I’d be bringing the weapons, yes?” She glared at the sniper for his lack of communications before pulling out a number of guns, including one of the venojets Julian recognized from Sofia’s lab.
“Thought it was obvious.” Matti wasn’t paying them much mind as his fingers danced over his rifle, before snapping off a few components to fit it in his backpack. “MY apologies, Luli.”
Luli seemed to think better of scolding him. “Just take this… dart gun thing and get into position.”
He saluted. “Copy that Specialist.” He looked at Julian, that serious look back in his eyes. “You’re on civilian protection duty. Remember that.”
Then he slung the bag over his shoulder and disappeared from the bathroom.
Luli pulled out a spray bottle. “Alright, give me a second to clean a bit. Make it look convincing. You know how to hide that thing—Blake! Point it at the ground!”
Julian fumbled the gun before pointing it down. Trigger control was a lot easier to forget than he’d thought.
“Uh, just like, in my waistband?”
She sighed. “Let me finish getting the mirrors. Just don’t kill anyone while I’m at it.”
Soon the room was filled with the acrid scent of cleaners and Luli put back the chemicals.
“Here, change out your clothes. Careful not to dislodge your hair.” Her own transformation had been dramatic: makeup gone, hair now in a bun that hid the red streak, she could have been a different person.
Julian felt like his own disguise was not as effective. He still looked like Pieter Petroff but in a janitor’s outfit. It wasn’t until Luli plopped a hat on his head that he felt better.
“Alright, we’re on bathroom duty,” she said. “We’ve got four more to hit before everyone is armed. Ready?”
What followed was probably the most fun he’d had on the whole operation. No one looked twice at the two of them as they coasted down the hall with their big cleaning cart. They slipped into the first bathroom, halfway down the hall, where Shanti and LaForge were shooting the shit.
They both jumped to attention and Julian and Luli burst in, bearing gifts. Both rewarded the pair with face splitting grins as they received their gifts.
“Felt naked without this,” LaForge said, holstering his.
“Ew, not something anyone wants to see.”
“Shut up, Shanti.” This one surprisingly came from Luli, who had a wry grin on her face. “Now get to your positions and radio in the Colonel when you get there.”
They both saluted. “Copy that Specialist.”
The next bathroom was a little harder cause the spring breakers crowd was coed. Nisslon and Bruni were both in the women’s room, which Julian and Luli hit first, only to find it occupied with more than just the soldiers.
An older woman toting a six year old girl was loudly discussing Bruni’s piercing.
“Ma’am—” the private started, but the woman wasn’t having too much of it.
“And you’ve got the nerve to tell me and my child to leave when she has to go potty. You, looking like that.” She gestured at Bruni.
Nisslon, who wasn’t known for her patience, was looking about ready to go when Luli cleared her throat.
“Well you’re all going to have to continue this at a different restroom because this one is closed for cleaning.” The four paused mid argument and turned to Luli. Julian could see both soldiers’ eyes scan over her, puzzlement creasing their brows. Then Bruni’s eyes landed on Julian and she rolled them hard.
“Eurgh. Fine. Let’s just go to the one by the fucking gate,” Nisslon said.
“My child!” shrieked the woman.
“Mommy I don’t have to go potty. Can we go on the plane now?”
Julian watched as the four left, each in a different state of annoyance. Luli watched them leave before sighing.
“Clear the restrooms. How hard is it to clear the restrooms?” She massaged her temples for a moment before pulling out her spray bottle and dousing the room in a lethal amount of cleaner.
“Why are you doing that?” Julian asked, coughing.
“Gotta make it look like we were here.” She emptied what looked like an entire container of bleach into one of the toilets. “Hate cleaning bathrooms. Anything but bathrooms. Haven’t cleaned one since I was seven.”
Julian wanted to offer his assistance but he was afraid to get in her way. Not to mention, he didn’t want to mess up his hair or makeup.
It took Luli another five minutes to make the room look, well, not clean, but maybe cleaned. Once they made it to the men’s restroom, the weapons drop went smoother.
“Took your sweet time,” Howard grumbled as he loaded up his guns.
“You can bring that up with Nilsson and Bruni.” Luli shoved some extra guns into his hands. ”Those are theirs.”
“They got caught up with a mom who wouldn’t leave,” Julian said, trying to provide some context. “So we just kinda kicked them all out. They’re at the bathroom by the gate.”
“Copy that, zombie.”
Julian pulled a face but didn’t say anymore as the four soldiers filed from the room.
The other drops went more smoothly. At one point Luli even trusted Julian to drop the guns off with Grace.
“I need to take a call. Ditch those with the Sergeant and meet me at the bathroom by Gate A8.”
She wasn’t supposed to have left him but he was confident in his ability to pull off the task. He knocked twice on the women’s restroom door.
“In here!” He could recognize the dulcet tones of the Sergeant anywhere so he cleared his throat and shouted back.
“Maintenance! Uh, cleaning, rather.” Off to a brilliant start but there was no time to kick himself. Instead he pushed the cart in, slapped down the sign, and wheeled around to face a tense looking Grace. Her disguised covered her shockingly blond hair with a brown wig and her scars were masterfully hidden.
“Just you?” she asked. “Where’s… Tara?”
“I think cleaning lady is Milly. Tara was my son’s girlfriend.”
She nodded and a corner of her lip lifted in a smile. “You following along fine?”
“Yeah I think so! We had some trouble with two of the spring breakers. Couldn’t get the civies out of the restroom so we had to improvise.”
She bit back a smile for about a half second before laughing. “Damn kid, we really got our top agent out there.” Then she looked over his shoulder. “Where is Milly?”
“She had to take a call.” Her look worried him for a second and he looked over his shoulder, as if also expecting to see Luli. “Is that weird?”
Grace shook her head as she set to work pulling her guns out of the cart. “Just means the Colonel’s got more shit to chat about than she can text. Probably got eyes on Von Martwitz.” A grin spread across her face, either at the idea of facing down the immortal or at the large gun she’d unsheathed from the cart. “Hello again, girl.”
Julian wasn’t really a pacifist but he didn’t like how much the soldiers loved their pet guns. It shouldn’t bother him but when he looked at the guns, he felt uneasy, knowing that every single one of them had killed a human being. It seemed downright ominous to dote on something that had killed so much.
“Right. So does that mean we’re pressed for time?”
Grace looked at him. “Honestly, couldn’t tell you. I’d ask Luli when you get outside.”
“Right. Alright.” He hovered, wanting to say more. The idea that Lady Helga could be arriving any minute made him suddenly realize how real this mission was. If it went ugly, there were a lot of people he might just never see again.
“You got that look on your face.”
He looked back at her, whatever look she’d referred to now replaced with a wry, if tired, smile. “You think this thing is gonna go sideways?”
“Mmm, no. I think it might be unsuccessful because of how much could go wrong, but it’s not going to end with everyone dying. Worst case scenario…” She looked back at her gun. “We just call Omicron and give them the head’s up.”
He nodded, still tense, so she put a hand on his shoulder. “I know I shouldn't worry,” he said but she shook her head.
“You’re not a soldier and you shouldn’t be here. So yeah, second combat situation in a few weeks for someone who should be in a lab or whatever, I get it.” Her eyes were that same earnest blue that burned when they got into a discussion about immortality and religion or when she was kicking his ass in training. “You’re handling it well. Trust the process.” She slung her gun over her back and pulled her long coat over it before striding to the door. “Oh, and Julian?”
“Hmm?” He looked over from his cart at her.
“Give ‘em hell if they do come for you. You know what it’s like.” With this, and final grin, she was out the door.
Will we get our first peek at the elusive Lady Helga next chapter? Or will Julian blow his cover? Find out later today!
Forgive me Reddit, but I feel as though this may be the only place I can vent my feelings. I have been keeping this in for a very long time and I’m going to put in as much detail as I possibly can, and it might be slightly everywhere in terms of context and pace so I do apologise, I’ve just fired this out after a shift at work and I feel now is the time, I feel as though I need to put it out there and finally get it off my chest, at least most of it.
I appreciate this is a lot to read, and there may be spelling errors and the like but it's all flodding out. I just need some reconciliation and/or some advice.
(T/W for depression, self-harm etc.)
-
I dream about her constantly, my heart aches even to this very day. It’s been 4 years, 5 come February next year since we broke up. Well, since she broke up with me…
After this period of time I have attempted to fill this void that my heart feels with various stimulants and yet nothing seems to mend me. Alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, sex. Nothing really did it for me, at the time - great, a distraction but nothing quite echoes my sadness like smoking weed and drinking bottles of red wine to myself in my bedroom all day…
She added me on Snapchat in 2013, but we met through a close family friend close to Christmas 2014. My close family friend, who I stayed with at the time was having a movie night and she came round. I was so nervous, it took about an hour before I plucked up the courage to go through and sit on the floor at the foot of the chair she was sitting on. Didn't make eye contact with her once. But feeling her precense made me so happy.
I've moved about 300 miles away (plus a little extra from the town I used to live in.) I’m back in education, I’m doing music again, I’m quite enjoying my life.
But the ache of this breakup has aged horribly and has not at all helped my psyche one bit.
I’ve seen her in person (not intimately in the sense that we had a conversation) but from afar, at my work and passing my work. You feel that sort of awkward energy when you’re both aware of each other.
Anyway, during this relationship I wasn’t really talking to my parents and I was staying with a close family friend (basically a second mum) and at the time I was experiencing things in my head that I didn’t truly understand, and it was only until one breakdown at my old job in the bathroom toilets with a stolen stanley blade, then an immediate breakdown infront of a customer who turned out to be a good samaritan (genuinely) and then taken to hospital that I found out I was suffering depression. Not great.
There were many good times that i remember about this relationship…
(I want to make it clear now that I am not calling anyone out in this blog, I’m just stating some facts and feelings.)
There was the time where she had her birthday party at her house, tonne of people there. I left the room so she could get changed and ready, then her friends joined her to do the same, put on makeup and that. I got beckoned through, and I walked in… And wow. I saw her, and my heart hit the floor. I’d never seen something, someone so beautiful in all my days, and she was mine. She was my girlfriend.
Another moment I remember fondly is the ice cream we used to get just outside of the town we used to live… Stunning. She introduced me to it. Sadly, I would visit that place after we broke up and as cliché as it sounds, it never tasted the same…
We visited a very small village a few miles out of town once as well, beautiful, amazing little place - but i could never bring myself to go back there after we broke up.
There was the time we went to see a band we both really liked at a famous venue in the city I live in, but now I can’t ever bring myself to listen to them.
The best thing that ever happened to me in that relationship was I was having a really tough couple of weeks at my new job (she was living a hundred miles away at uni) I got home to my parents house (my parents and i were on good terms at this point, for a bit) it must have been 8 or 9 o’clock at night. I walk in, feeling pretty shitty. My mum said hello, asked how I was. Didn’t say much. Kind of weird. I walk upstairs to my bedroom, flick on the light and she was there, sat on my bed waiting for me to get home. I literally dropped to my knees and started sobbing, really belting out the tears. I couldn’t believe it. That to this day is one of the nicest things that anyone’s ever done for me. I cherish that memory, but it hurts like a red hot needle to the chest…
The bad times…
Oh wow.
Smells, places, people. I can't even experience anymore, natural though.
Diasy by Marc Jacobs? I can't.
Invictus was the aftershave I used to wear around her all the time, she loved it. I hate the smell now. It hurts too much to wear it.
I want to also establish that mentally I’m more sound than I’ve ever been. I’m a lot better. I’ve gotten help and at the time the medication that I needed. It all helped.
But, at that time I was very defensive, abrasive, so childish. I am certainly not the same person as I was a few years ago, and I’m sure she isn’t either. Definitely not. I’m not perfect in any way, but I’ve improved but I was young at the time, well, younger.
But I used to get so jealous of stupid things, some were justified, many unjustifiable.
Like she had a crush on a friend, which she admitted. Who’s to blame her, they knew each other way before I cam on the scene, he was/is talented and a good looking guy. But at the time, that rubbed me the wrong way - I’m sure anyone can relate to that!
There was also a time where she picked up him and her cousin up to head into town and she asked me to move into the back seat so the aforementioned guy could sit in the front with her. That’s so stupid now but at the time it hurt.
When I was with her all I ever wanted to do was show her off and celebrate the relationship. But I sort of felt as though she didn’t want the same for me, and it (at least at the time) felt as though she was embarrassed of me. She’d take all these photos with her friends but not with me? I didn’t understand it then, so naturally it upset me. I’m sure she had her reasons, but, it still hurt. It could have been her own insecurities, but I don’t want to be presumptuous as a person with their own insecurities.
There was one day after I got my first car, I drove it through to hers and we were going to go for a drive and she asked to drive her car and I moaned about wanting to drive my car instead. Stupid, like really? I don’t know why I made such a big deal out of it.
I kind of dragged that story off, but a horrible thing I did was I cut myself at her house frequently, and i did it her room one time just before she got back and i don’t know why I let myself do something so stupid like that. That upset her, and no wonder.
(This relationship went from December 2014 - February 2016 by the way.)
Anyway…
Onto the lead up to the breakup…
I used to hangout with a couple of friends from my old, old job. (During this relationship I had 3 different jobs at separate times, this was the job I had before the jobs i mentioned earlier, any who.) One night we went out we all went back to mine because it was dead in the centre of town and it saved them getting a taxi so they got picked up in the morning instead. One of these friends was a girl. We all kind of piled in my bed (clothes on), totally platonic, and started falling asleep, not in an intimate way. She then proceeded to try and spoon me, cuddle me so I moved and I asked her to stop because I had a girlfriend. This obviously had me worried, like, why is my friend doing this. She made a big deal of this and went to sleep in a sulk.
We went out as a trio a few times after that and before that happened for drinks and food and that. Nothing ever came of that. We didn’t speak about it, but of course it upset me. We all still hung out and didn’t mention this or speak about it. Scared me. I spoke to the guy friend of our trio about it, he didn’t say much to help.
During this time hanging out with them I spoke with the girl about my relationship, which in all honesty I shouldn’t have done but I had spoke to my gf about how I was feeling as well. I spoke about how I felt like she was embarrassed of me, and that I thought about breaking up with her…
A few weeks around this my girlfriend and I had this one friend in our friend circle, I won’t obviously mention names. Haven’t so far, but anyway
He texted me one day saying that he just saw my gf in a car with other guys and where she was, didn’t give me any other context. He was a shit-stirrer, always was. He knows that, so do many people. Obviously this sends me into a emegency mode, alarm bells ringing. So I jumped in my car and drove past the location, she wasn’t there. I texted her and asked, no reply for a while. Went back home gave me a reply, obviously I’m freaking out (probably at her) I was worried. Turns out she was with one (ONE) of her friends, he texted me saying sorry and that he didn’t mean to upset me. They were legit just hanging out eating a McDonalds. I used to hold a lot of distain for this guy for years after because I knew he had (and probably still has) a crush on her, so that rubbed me the wrong way as well but hey-ho.
I can’t remember what happened in-between, but we (me+gf) were not talking to each other for a bit then she texted me to say it was over. Obviously at the time I was in shock but looking back now I can see why, it was me. So uptight, jealous. Over-emotional to the max. Like wow bro chill out.
She came over to give me back a few things. I cried for days, texted her begging for an answer why but all I got was “I don’t want to talk about this” and “I don’t have time for this I’m busy”… I never got the closure of why, and I think that may be why it hurts more but…
A week later I drove through to her house to get answers, any sort of clarification to clear my mind, she got in the car and didn’t say much. Just repeating what she said before. At least as much as I can remember.
Flashforward a few weeks later, I’m driving in the town I stay and I see her coming toward me, I recognised the reg’ plate and who do I see in the front seat next to her… Her ex boyfriend.
This immediately sent me in a melt down.
This was the very same guy who treated her horribly before me.
I couldn’t understand it. Why?
My close friend (same circle) spoke about it a year later or so and she mentioned that they had been “sort of seeing each other” after we split, but then he cheated on her (he had a history of doing this).
We spoke about it again a while ago, a few months ago actually. Hurts still.
It’s so weird looking back in retrospect because I’m so chilled out now, but I think that I feel this heartbreak every day as there was no closure. And that’s why I’m still hurt.
Though, I’m still blocked on social media, facebook, Twitter, insta you name it. Though, it takes a lot for someone to undo that. Like, if you’re not thinking about that person you blocked at all you’ll forget about it or you don’t care that much, understandably. I don’t know.
There are times where I feel the need to just message her out of the blue and apologise and tell her that we were different people back then and I wasn’t right for her at the time, but maybe she wasn’t right for me at the time. We were just a couple of kids with rose-tinted glasses. I don’t know.
Again, I just needed to vent this out because I can’t speak to anyone about this. I just can’t. So I’m hoping someone here can just give me some sort of virtual reassurance, a pat on the back or some advice.
I try to remove thoughts of her and distract myself but I can’t, I dream about her constantly. It aches to my very core, as dramatic as that sounds. I can’t get over this, though someday I hope that I will.
I hold no malice to any of these people, and certainly not her. I just wish that we could come to terms with everything, and be mutual about it all. I’ve had a lot of time the last few years to reconcile with people.
I think there will always be a part of her in me for years to come, but what do I do?
Added later:
When her name leaves my lips it aches me more, sometimes I just whipser them softly allowed.
When her name leaves my lips it aches me more, sometimes I just whisper them softly allowed.
Every relationship or fling after her made me happy, but a part of her remains.
I’m sorry for ever hurting you.
Note:
I’ll probably add to this later, as I have a tendency to repress some of these memories so they come and go.
Every NFL week, we'll go game by game and name a Stud and a Dud for each contest. Studs and duds are relative to their consensus rankings and salaries on DraftKings and FanDuel. Meaning the Stud will not always be the player I expect to have the most fantasy points for a given game and the Dud will not always be a player I expect to get zero snaps.
Editor's Note: Optimal DFS is the #1 app for building fantasy lineups for DraftKings and FanDuel in Apple's App Store. Download Optimal DFS in the App Store to build customized optimized lineups and get breaking news before everyone else in your league.
Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns Stud: Joe Mixon The usage was there for Joe Mixon in Week 1. 19 rush attempts and 2 targets. Unfortunately for him, the game script was garbage. That will not be the case in Cleveland. I see them moving the ball down the field on the back of Mixon Week 2. He also has Joe Burrow who looked impressive for a rookie QB with no preseason action.
Dud: Odell Beckham, Jr. There is still time to fade OBJ and be contrarian. People are going to look at his 10 targets from Week 1 and see potential, but it will end in frustration. There is zero chemistry between Baker and Beckham. I'm avoiding him in Week 2 even with his embarrassingly low salary on DK and FD.
New York Giants at Chicago Bears Stud: Allen Robinson Mitchell Trubisky attempted 36 passes and targeted 11 different receivers in Week 1. Allen Robinson scooped up 9 of those targets for 5 receptions and 74 yards. He's the best offensive talent the Bears have and I'm expecting more looks to go his way Week 2. I'll be surprised if he doesn't score a TD against the Giants.
Dud: Saquon Barkley Saquan Barkley is an incredible talent, but he has not been living up to expectations. In Week 1 against the Steelers, he started the game with 8 rushes for -8 yards. 8 rushes for -8 yards. Figured I'd write it a 2nd time to let it sink because I had to check multiple sources to confirm that stat. He's really good, but his consensus ranking is higher than his production. The Giants offensive line needs help.
Atlanta Falcons at Dallas Cowboys Stud: Calvin Ridley Which Atlanta Falcon WR had 9 receptions on 12 targets in Week 1? All of them, essentially... Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Russell Gage all had 9 receptions and 12 targets! However, Ridley was the only player to score a TD and did so twice. There is potential in this game for another shootout. I'm a big fan of Ridley season long and love him Week 2.
Dud: Russell Gage Yes, Gage is coming off a 12 tgt / 9 rec / 114 yrd showing. Although I think we're going to see another shootout here for the Falcons, I'm selling that he sees the same volume Week 2.
Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers Stud: Davante Adams Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams tore up the Minnesota Vikings defense. An absolute monster game for Adams tallying up 17 targets, 14 receptions, 156 yards, and 2 TDs. Aaron Rodgers looked as crisp as ever and Davante Adams will continue to benefit.
Dud: TJ Hockenson I had high hopes for TJ Hockenson Week 1. Especially with Kenny Golladay out. 5 target, 5 receptions, 56 yards, and 1 TD. It's a good game on paper, but it felt to me like this was TJ's ceiling. I worry he's shaping up to be a touchdown-dependent TE start week in and week out. The targets went to the WRs Quintez Cephus (10), Marvin Jones Jr. (8), and Danny Amendola (7).
Minnesota Vikings at Indianapolis Colts Stud: Jonathan Taylor I was a seller on Jonathan Taylor coming into Week 1. I wasn't buying that he won the starting job from Marlon Mack, which did appear to be the case. Now that Mack is out with a torn Achilles, the backfield will be in the hands of Nyheim Hines and Jonathan Taylor. Hines made the noise with 2 TDs, but they both got a lot of play. 9 carries and 6 targets for Jonathan Taylor and 7 carries and 8 targets for Nyheim Hines. I like both of them, but coming into Week 2 I like Taylor as the higher value play. Phil Rivers is truly proving to be Captain Dump-off. Bold prediction: Nyheim Hines and Jonathan Taylor can turn out to be this year's Austin Ekeler and Melvin Gordon.
Dud: TY Hilton The targets were there for TY Hilton, but he didn't do much with them. 9 targets, 4 receptions, and 53 yards for TY. I'm staying away from him until I see a little bit of chemistry with Captain Dump-off.
Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins Stud: John Brown John Brown is always overlooked and consistently produces. The new addition of Stefon Diggs to the receiving core added to the low valuation of John Brown. I see Diggs and Brown as 1A and 1B options for Josh Allen. 10 targets, 6 receptions, 70 yards, and 1 TD for John Brown in Week 1. He was wide open for a 2nd TD, but Josh Allen spazzed and could not hit him. Josh Allen did look good outside of that 1 pass and both fumbles.
Dud: Ryan Fitzpatrick 0 TDs and 3 INTs for Fitzmagic in Week 1 against the Patriots. The Pats are the Pats, but the Bills defense is pretty good too. A hammy issue for DeVante Parker isn't helping his cause. I'm waiting for the "Tuaaaaaa" chants before I take a chance on Fitz. He's always good to muddy the waters with a good game as soon as he's counted out.
San Francisco 49ers at New York Jets Stud: Raheem Mostert He's the best talent in the 49ers backfield and it's NOT EVEN CLOSE. The 49ers rode him through the playoffs and will continue to do so this season. He has the possibility for multi-touchdown 150+ all-purpose yardage week in and week out.
Dud: Jimmy Garoppolo I like Jimmy G in general, but I think the 49ers run away with this one and don't have a need to pass the rock. He'll have to get his in during the 1st half if he wants to have any fantasy value.
Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles Stud: Jared Goff This one is going to be a beat down and Jared Goff is going to be the benefactor. I see him spreading the football around and tallying up 3+ TD. Dwayne Haskins Jr. had what I consider to be a good game last week against the Eagles (for him). A win and 0 INT. This should be a piece of cake for the Rams and Goff.
Dud: Carson Wentz The Los Angeles Rams just held Dak Prescott in check. This isn't going to go well for Carson Wentz. He's coming off of a 2 pick game against the Washington Football Team. The jury is still out if Washington's DEF is good or if the Eagles offense made them look good. Week 2 should shed some light on the answer.
Denver Broncos at Pittsburgh Steelers Stud: Ben Roethlisberger Big Ben was doing Big Ben things on MNF. He looks fully recovered from his surgery and has a lot of weapons to throw to. JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Washington, Chase Claypool, Eric Ebron, Vance McDonald, and Diontae Johnson. Good luck picking the WRs/TEs that will hit... Put Roethlisberger in your Week 2 lineup with confidence.
Dud: James Conner I liked James Conner coming into the season and tried to steal him (unsuccessfully) in my draft. Turns out I'm happy I didn't get him. He looks stuck in the mud and now has an ankle injury he's nursing. Benny Snell looks Jr. spry. I'd think twice about firing him up in your Week 2 lineups against the Broncos if he gets clearance to play on the ankle.
Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Stud: Christian McCaffrey Alvin Kamara just ripped the Bucs for 2 TDs (should've been 3) in Week 1. Christian McCaffrey is prime for a monster game here. Anything less than triple-digit yardage and multiple TDs is a letdown.
Dud: Rob Gronkowski This is a crowded receiving core in Tampa Bay. Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Scotty Miller, OJ Howard, Cameron Brate, and Rob Gronkowski. The chemistry between Brady and Gronk I'm sure is still there, but OJ Howard is the youngefresher talent. I liked him to lead Buc's TEs season long before Week 1. Week 1 that proved to be the case and I think the pattern continues.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans Stud: Derrick Henry He's unstoppable and Vrabel knows how to use him. The Titans are going to control this game on the ground. No TDs Week 1 was disappointing, but he'll get in the endzone in Week 2.
Dud: Gardner Minshew II I caught a case of Minshew Mania, so it pains me to mark him as a Dud, but it's going to be extremely difficult to maintain his Week 1 efficiency. 19 completions on 20 attempts with 3 TDs and 0 INTs. With little help in the backfield, Minshew will most likely struggle to move the ball Week 2 against the Titans defense.
Washington Football Team at Arizona Cardinals Stud: Washington DEF I'm a buyer of this Washington defense. Chase Young came out of the gates hot Week 1 and lead The Football Team to a big win. I'm not expecting Washington to shut down the Cardinals, but I am expecting them to keep this game close and cover the 6.5 point Vegas spread.
Dud: Antonio Gibson Later this season Antonio Gibson will be the guy, but Washington isn't ready to give him that role yet. I fired up Antonio Gibson Week 1 in my 14-team season-long league after Miles Sanders was ruled out. It started off promising as he was getting the early work. Then after 1 goalline series, it all went downhill. Gibson got stuffed on the 1st goalline carry. In came Peyton Barber who eventually pooonded it in. Barber finished with 2 TDs and appeared to the main RB for the latter half of the game. Barber is the safer play heading into Week 2.
Baltimore Ravens at Houston Texans Stud: Marquise Brown This game will be a little more competitive for the Baltimore Ravens compared to their Week 1 beatdown on the miz Cleveland Browns. Lamar Jackson only had to throw the ball 25 times, but Hollywood Brown was still able to tally 6 targets, 5 receptions, and 101 yards. Mark Andrews and Willie Snead took the 3 TDs thrown. I'm expecting a big week from Brown here in Week 2.
Dud: JK Dobbins A lot of excitement after Week 1 for season-long JK Dobbins. Yours truly is a Dobbins owner. Unfortunately for me, I only felt pain Week 1 because I am also a Mark Ingram owner and had Ingram locked in as the starter. 4 total TDs vultured from my Week 1 starters Mark Ingram and Antonio Gibson. Dobbins is the future for the Ravens, but I think his 2 TDs were flukey in this blowout game. When push comes to shove I'm betting on Ingram over Dobbins and will keep Ingram in my Week 2 lineup.
Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers Stud: Clyde Edwards-Helaire CEH is a lethal weapon for the Chiefs and they know it. He put up big fantasy points in the opener without catching a pass and while getting stopped multiple times on the goalline. I'm not worried about his goalline abilities. Week 2 he'll continue to smash. It'll be tough to compete with McCaffrey season-long, but I can see CEH as the #2 overall RB when it's all said and done.
Dud: Austin Ekeler The fantasy world is panicking about Austin Ekeler's usage in the passing game Week 1. He only saw a single target. He did have a respectable game on the ground picking up 84 yards on 19 carries. I am indeed pressing the panic button as well. Austin Ekeler is not a ground and pound RB. He's a scatback and Captain Dump-off is no longer in town. Maybe things change when Justin Herbert inevitably takes control. We're looking at a lot of 3 and outs with Tyrod trying to force the ball down the field as the Chargers play from behind in this one.
New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks Stud: Julian Edelman Cam Newton only threw 19 passes Week 1. Julian Edelman was targeted on 37% of those pass attempts and put together an OK game in PPR. He was also used once on a successful end-around. The game script Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks will be different and the Patriots will need to pass to keep up.
Dud: Sony Michel (See thoughts above on Julian Edelman). The Patriots came in against the Dolphins wanting to pooond the rock. And Sony Michel was still lackluster. He had a fantasy saving TD, but only registered 10 carries for 37 yards. This is a low-floor low-ceiling touchdown-dependent situation for Michel.
New Orleans Saints at Las Vegas Raiders Stud: Latavius Murray Alvin Kamara stole all the TDs, but Latavius Murray lead the team in carries Week 1. 15 carries for Murray compared to 12 for Kamara. The game script here calls for a Saints blowout. I'm expecting Latavius Murray to put the finishing touches on this one with a lot of pooonding the rock in the 2nd half.
Dud: Josh Jacobs Josh Jacobs is no dud, but his Week 1 numbers are going to be hard to replicate. Especially against a New Orleans Saints team that held the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to under 100 yards rushing and only 1 rushing TD (Tom Brady). I see the Raiders playing from behind in this one making it difficult for Jacobs to perform for fantasy purposes.
Jensen Huang: (01:13) (silence) Welcome to my kitchen. I hope all of you are staying safe. We’re going to talk about an amazing GPU today. Modern GPUs are technology marvels. It is the engine of large industries from design, cloud AI, to scientific computing, but it is the gamers and their insatiable demand that is the driving force of the GPU, pooling their GPUs to create the largest distributed computer ever. A million gamers united to counterstrike the COVID-19 Coronavirus. The result was 2.8 exoflops, five times the processing power of the world’s largest supercomputer, to simulate the virus. Folding At Home was able to simulate a hundred milliseconds, a 10th of a second in the life of the coronavirus and captured the moment it opens his mouth to infect the human cell. Scientists believe this is also its moment of weakness. Jensen Huang: (02:05) Thank you all for joining this historic fight. We’re going to talk about computer graphics and the work we’re doing to push the boundaries. We love computer graphics and have advanced it incredibly in the time of Nvidia. As the technology advanced, the expressiveness of the medium has made graphics an invaluable tool to help us understand our world, create and explore new worlds. Tell stories that inspire us. From science to industry to the arts, computer graphics has made a profound impact on the world. And for that, we are privileged to have contributed. Jensen Huang: (02:38) We’re going to talk about gaming and the infinite ways that gaming is expanding. G-Force PC gaming is large and thriving. It’s open and rapidly advancing technology, combined with the amazing creativity of the community makes magic. Anyone could be a broadcaster. Add a G-Force and you have a personal broadcast station, pros stream their practices, experts stream tips and tricks, friends stream to friends just to hang out. There are over 20 million streamers. Games have become a new art medium. In Minecraft gamers can build their work of art. Machinima artists create cinematics made from game assets. Tens of millions are using games to express their creativity. Inside a computer simulation, any sport can become e-sport. Virtual NASCAR and F1 are already attracting top racers. Like sports, e-sports captures the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat and the human drama of athletic competition. E-sports is on its way to be the biggest sport. Jensen Huang: (03:38) I have something special for all the G-Force gamers around the world, four gifts. I hope you like them, and you’ll find new ways to game. First, big news. Fortnite is turning RTX on. Now Minecraft and Fortnite, the number one and number two most played games in the world have RTX on. Fortnight will get Ray trace, shadows, reflections, ambient inclusion, and DLSS too. These effects look fantastic with the art style of Fortnight. I can’t wait to see a Fortnight concert with RTX on. The last one with Travis Scott was watched by 28 million people. Epic made a trailer for you. Let’s play it now. 75% of G-Force gamers play e-sports. e-sports is a game of milliseconds, reaction times a combination of the gamer and the machine. Let me explain. This is Valerie. In this example, the opponent is traveling at 1500 pixels per second, and it’s visible in this opening for only 180 milliseconds. A typical gamer has a reaction time of 150 milliseconds, from photon to action. You can only hit this opponent if your PC adds less than 30 milliseconds. Most gamers have latencies far greater than 30 milliseconds. Many up to 100 milliseconds. Jensen Huang: (05:12) Today we’re announcing a new e-sports technology called Nvidia reflex. Nvideo reflex optimizes the rendering pipeline across CPU and GPU to reduce latency by up to 50%. in September, we’re releasing reflex with our game ready driver. Over 100 million G-Force gamers will instantly become more competitive. Valarent, Fortnight, Apex Legends, Call Of Duty War Zone, and Destiny Two will be the first to integrate reflex technology. Jensen Huang: (05:40) E-sports pros and enthusiasts strive for zero latency. For you, we’re announcing an insanely fast and beautiful display. A 360 Hertz Gsync display designed for e-sports. This display has a builtin precision latency analyzer. Just connect your mouse. The Nvidia 360 Hertz Gsync e-sports displays are arriving this fall from Acer, Alienware, Asus and MSI. We’ve made a video comparing gaming on a 60 Hertz, 144 Hertz and 360 Hertz display. You can see immediately how 360 Hertz display will help you target and track an opponent. Jensen Huang: (06:21) For the 20 million live streamers, we have something really cool for you. Nvideo broadcast turns any room into a broadcast studio. Nvideo broadcast runs AI algorithms trained by deep learning on NVIDIA’s DGX supercomputer, one of the most powerful in the world. Effects like audio noise removal, virtual background effects, whether graphics or video and web cam auto framing is a virtual camera person tracking you. Jensen Huang: (06:44) These AI effects are amazing. Available for download in September and runs on any RTX GPU. Brandon and G-Force marketing will now show you in a video broadcast. Brandon: (06:55) Hey everybody. I’m Brandon and I’m very excited today to talk to you about our Nvidia broadcast app. Like many of you I’ve been home a lot more lately. I’ve been video conferencing all day and then gaming and streaming all night. And I have a very basic webcam microphone set up. Nvidia broadcast makes these things supercharged with a lot of new awesome features that really bring it out, using the power of AI and our RX GPUs. The first one ,I want to talk about is noise removal. So I’ve asked my girlfriend to join me with a blow dryer here and that distracting sound makes it very hard to understand what I’m saying, but when I turn on noise removal in Nvidia broadcast, you find that it’s completely gone. And that blow dryer is still going. Brandon: (07:32) But Nvidia broadcast isn’t just awesome audio features. There’s some really exciting video features as well. Let’s take a look. First up, we have the ability to blur your background, which you may notice that I need because I have a very cluttered and messy room. But when I turn this background blur feature on, all of a sudden I get this really classy effect and I can adjust the strength of that from low to high and everything in between. Or if I want, I could actually replace the background altogether. Now I’m in a space station with the magic of AI. It’s that easy. Or if I want to jump into some gameplay, I can remove the background altogether and jump into some Valoran. And now I’m playing with a green screen effect without actually having to have one at home. I don’t have to play good, but at least I can look good. Sometimes when I’m video conferencing or doing a just chatting stream, I want to zoom in to get a more personal connection with the audience. But the problem is, I bounce around so much, it’s easy for my head to get out of frame. With the auto frame feature, it’s like having your own personal cameraman that follows you wherever you go. So if, for example, I want it to reach over and grab my cool Valoren hat, and show it to everybody, it follows me every step of the way. I just find Nvidia broadcast to be really exciting, as both a streamer and as someone who works from home. The ability to remove distracting noise, improve your background and keep yourself in the center of the frame are all awesome features in one app. And I just can’t wait for you guys to try it. Jensen Huang: (09:05) A new form of art has emerged from gaming called Machinima. Artists are using game assets to create cinematics. There’s been tens of billions of views on YouTube. Most are shorts. Some are even recreating entire classic movies. It’s becoming a whole new art genre. Today, I’m going to show you an app that will make these cinematics amazing. It’s called Nvidia Omniverse Machinima. It’s an app build on our omniverse 3d workflow collaboration platform. Omniverse is a universal design tool asset exchange with a viewer, based on photorealistic path tracing. The engine is designed to be physically accurate, simulating light, physics, material and artificial intelligence. We have connectors for most third party design tools, like 3DS Max, Maya, Photoshop, Epic Unreal, Rhino, and many more. The Machinima app brings in elements and assets from games and third party collections like turbo squid, and lets you mix and compose them into a cinemtic. Jensen Huang: (10:03) … [inaudible 00:10:00] like TurboSquid and lets you mix and compose them into a cinematic. Creators can use their webcam to drive our AI-based post-estimator to animate characters, drive face animation AI with your voice, add high fidelity physics like particles and fluids, make materials physically accurate, and then when done with your composition and mixing, render film quality cinematics with your RTX GPU. NVIDIA Omniverse Machinima, beta in October. Sign up at nvidia.com/ machinima. Jensen Huang: (10:31) Let me show you a demo. We created it in a few days. We started with assets from Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. You’re going to love this. Speaker 1: (11:15) Whoa, that was close. You guys are getting better. Jensen Huang: (11:28) For 40 years since NVIDIA researcher Turner Whitted first published his paper on ray tracing, computer science researchers have chased this dream to create super-realistic virtual worlds with real-time ray tracing. NVIDIA seeing the ultimate limits of rasterisation approaching focused intense efforts over the past 10 years to realize real-time ray tracing on a large scale. Jensen Huang: (11:49) At SIGGRAPH two years ago, we announced the NVIDIA RTX. Now two years later, it is clear we have reinvented computer graphics. NVIDIA RTX is a full- stack invention. RTX starts with a brand new GPU architecture, but it is so much more. It includes new engine tech and a bunch of new rendering algorithms. RTX is a home run. All major 3D APIs have been extended for RTX. RTX is supported by all major 3D tools. RTX tech is incorporated into all major game engines. There are hundreds of games in development and thousands of research papers of new rendering and AI algorithms enabled by RTX. The RTX GPU has three fundamental processors: The programmable shader that we first introduced over 15 years ago, RT core to accelerate the rate triangle and ray-bounding box intersections and AI processing pipeline called tensor core. Tensor core accelerates linear algebra that is used for deep neural network processing, the foundation of modern AI. Jensen Huang: (12:52) AI is the most powerful technology force of our time. Computers that learn from data and write software that no humans can. The advances are nothing short of breathtaking. NVIDIA is doing groundbreaking work in this area. You might have seen our work in self-driving cars and robotics. Computer graphics and gaming will also be revolutionized by deep learning. Let me show you some recent works and the art of the possible. Jensen Huang: (13:15) The first video is a generative adversarial network that has learned to synthesize virtual characters of any artistic genre, including photorealistic. Second is a neuro network that animates a 3D face directly from voice. Speaker 2: (13:29) You require more Vespene gas. It’s dangerous to go alone. Take this. Jensen Huang: (13:35) The AI character can speak in any language, be any gender and even rap and sing. Jensen Huang: (13:41) Third is a character locomotion of infinite number of positions. Imagine negotiating arbitrary paths and obstacles. The fourth is reconstructing 3D from video. Imagine the possibilities, record video, interact in 3D. Jensen Huang: (13:59) This one is a deep learning model that learned the physics behavior of cloth animation. Finally, this deep learning model of ray tracing can predict colors of missing pixels so that fewer rays need to be cast and fewer pixels need to be fully rendered. We can achieve orders of magnitude speedups. AI is starting to play a giant role in the future of computer graphics and gaming. The powerful tensor cores in RTS GPUs will let us do AI in real time. Jensen Huang: (14:27) One of the first major AI computer graphics breakthroughs is DLSS. Here’s the challenge, real-time ray tracing is far more beautiful, but requires a lot more computation per pixel than rasterisation. The solution is to ray trace fewer pixels and use AI on tensor course to up res to super res, to a higher resolution and boost frame rate. Jensen Huang: (14:50) DLSS took nearly two years of intensive research. We built a supercomputer to train a network. The DLSS model is trained on extremely high-quality 16K offline rendered images of many kinds of content. Once trained, the model is downloaded into your driver. At runtime, DLSS 2.0 takes in low resolution aliased image and motion vector of the current frame and the high resolution previous frame to generate a high resolution current frame. Jensen Huang: (15:18) I think DLSS is one of our biggest breakthroughs in the last 10 years. Take a look at these images of Death Stranding, the latest game by Kojima Son. DLSS is sharper than native 4k and create a detail from AI that native rendering didn’t even show and the frame rate is higher. Jensen Huang: (15:36) Reviewers have loved DLSS 2.0. They say its quality beats out native rendering and runs even faster. You can play a 4k without a performance hit. Tensor core effectively gives RTX a two X performance boost. Let’s look at one frame trace of a game to see the processes of RTX in action. Jensen Huang: (15:55) Adding ray tracing to games dramatically increases the computation workload. Using shaders to do rate traversal and object intersection reduces the frame rate. We added the RT core, which reduces shared workload by 60%. RT core offloads the shaders by doing that ray triangle and ray-bounding box intersection calculations. Using the same methodology as Microsoft Xbox, the RT core is effectively a 34 teraflop shader and Turing has an equivalent of 45 teraflops while ray tracing. Jensen Huang: (16:27) Even with RT core the amount of time consumed is significant, so RT core and shaders have to run concurrently. Even then, 20 milliseconds is only 50 frames per second and still a step back and performance relative to previous generations. This is where the tensor core and DLSS come in, rendering to a lower resolution then using AI and super-fast tensor core to effectively double frame rate. Now you can get ray tracing, get high results and high frame rate at the same time. That’s the magic of the three processors of RTX. Jensen Huang: (17:03) Turing was our first-generation RTX GPU, combining ray tracing, programmable shading and AI. The flagship Turing had a ton of processing power: 11 shader teraflops, 34 RTT teraflops and 89 tensor teraflops. Jensen Huang: (17:20) Let me show you our new RTX GPU. Ampere is a giant leap in performance. Ampere does two shader calculations per clock versus one on Turing. 30 shader teraflops compared to 11. Ampere doubles ray triangle intersection throughput. Ampere’s RT core delivers 58 RT teraflops compared to Turing’s 34, and Ampere’s new tensor core automatically identifies and removes less important DNN weights. The new tensor core hardware processed the sparse network at twice the rate of Turing, 238 tensor flops compared to 89. Jensen Huang: (17:59) Ladies and gentlemen, NVIDIA’s Ampere GPU. Our second-generation RTX, 28 billion transistors built on Samsung [inaudible 00:18:09] NVIDIA custom process. All three processors double rates over Turing, a triple double. It connects to Micron’s new G6X, the fastest memories ever made. Jensen Huang: (18:20) The days of just relying on transistor performance scaling is over. Yet Amperes an incredible two times the performance and energy efficiency of Turing. At Nvidia, we use every engineering lever to squeeze every drop of performance out of the system, from architecture custom process design, circuit design, logic design, packaging, custom series IO, memory, power, and thermal design, PCB design software and algorithms. Thousands of engineers per generation, billions of dollars. Full-stack engineering and extreme craftsmanship is the hallmark of our GPS. Our performance, energy efficiency and low power are all world-class, and real application performance highlights Ampere’s new RT core. The more ray tracing is done, the greater the Ampere speed up. Ampere RT core doubles ray intersection processing. It’s ray tracing is process concurrently with shading and Ampere can render cinematic images with motion blur eight times faster than Turing. Let’s take a look at Ampere in action. Jensen Huang: (19:25) At our kitchen GTC a few months ago, we showed Marbles, the world’s first fully path-traced, photorealistic, real-time graphics. It was running on our highest end Turing Quadro RTX 8000. Turing was doing 720p, 25 frames per second. Today, we’re going to run an enhanced version of Marbles with even more special effects, and it is running at 1440p, 30 frames per second, over four times the performance. Jensen Huang: (19:56) Ladies and gentlemen, enjoy Marbles At Night. Jensen Huang: (21:17) Marbles is entirely path traced, no rasterization, all real time. There are hundreds of area lights, including spherical area lights. There’s no pre baking. Everything is dynamic. The depth of field is film quality and beautiful. Everything is dynamic. Diffuse GI, all dynamic. Jensen Huang: (21:46) There are hundreds of [bridge a bonds 00:21:49], 80 million triangles, materials are physically accurate, physics simulation and volume metric rendering in real time. DLSS 2.0 is doing the super resolution and AIG noising. Let’s compare Marbles Turing and Marbles Ampere. You could see dramatic visual quality jump of Ampere. Marbles on Turing runs at 720p, 25 frames per second. Marbles on Ampere runs a 1440p, 30 frames per second, more than four times the performance, and Ampere even did area lights and depth of field. A giant performance leap. Jensen Huang: (22:50) Today’s games are giant worlds, indoor and out, with photogrammetry, dense geometry and lots of characters. Games are over 200 gigabytes getting bigger. This is like 50,000 songs or 400 hours of streaming video. Games have pushed PCIO and file system sort of breaking point. Jensen Huang: (23:08) CPS copy files from disk can decompress the game image. This is fine when the story system was slow, 50 to 100 megabytes per second. Now with gen four PCI express and solid state drives PCs can transfer data at seven gigabytes per second, a hundred times faster. CPU copying data to memory and decompressing game images is now the bottleneck. Decompressing data from 100 megabytes per second hard drives takes only a few CPU cores. However, decompressing from seven gigabytes per second SSDs on PCIE gen four takes over 20 CPU cores. Today we’re announcing Nvidia RTX IO with three new advances: new IO APIs for fast loading and streaming directly from SSD to GPU memory, GPU losses decompression, and collaboration with Microsoft on direct storage for windows that streamlines the transfer of data from storage to GPU memory. Jensen Huang: (24:02) With Nvidia RTX IO, vast worlds will load instantly. Picking up where you left off will be instant. This is a very big deal for next generation gaming. Let me show you Ampere in action in one of the most anticipated games of 2020 CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk. This trailer is called scenes of cyberpunk RTX. It shows ray trace reflections, diffuse elimination, shadows, and ambient occlusion, and DLSS 2.0, enjoy. Ladies and gentlemen, our new flagship GPU, the Nvidia G-Force RTX 3080 powered by Ampere, second generation RTX architecture. The Nvidia RTX 3080. I have one right here. Let me show it to you. It is beautiful. Look at this, the RTX 3080. It is wonderfully crafted. It’s going to look beautiful in your PC, and it lights up. Jensen Huang: (27:53) Now, let me tell you about some of the other exciting technologies inside. Turing uses G6, the fastest memories at that time. The industry thought that was the limit. For Ampere, we had to push through that limit, working with Micron, we designed the world’s first memories with PAM4 signaling, pulse amplitude modulation with four voltage levels that encode two bits of data each, 00011011. Jensen Huang: (28:18) Each voltage step is only 250 millivolts, so in the same period of time G6X can transmit twice as much data as G6. PAM4 is extreme singling technology, and it’s just becoming used in high speed networking. The Ampere thermal architecture is the first ever flow through design, working harmoniously with PC chassis cooling system, pulling in cool air from the outside, flowing through the GPU, and pushing hot air straight out the chassis. To allow room for a fan to flow air directly through the module, our engineers architect a super dense PCB design that is 50% smaller than previous, while adding the bigger Ampere GPUs, HDMI 2.1, PCI express 4.0 and G6X. Jensen Huang: (29:05) There are two independently controlled fans, the bracket front fan pulls cool air from the bottom and pushes the heated air out through the graphics card brackets. A backside pull-through fan passes cool air over the fence of the heat pipe and directs the hot air to the top and back of the chassis to be exhausted by the system fan. The 3080 flow-through system is three times quieter and keeps the GPU 20 degrees cooler than the Turing design. It can cool 90 Watts more than Turing. Jensen Huang: (29:35) The generational leap is ultimately the most important factor of new GPUs. A significant technology advance is needed to inspire content developers to create the next level of content and for the install-base to upgrade. Let’s see how the 3080 stacks up the previous generation architectures on the latest graphics intensive games. 3080 is faster than 20 ADTI. 3080 is twice the performance of 2080 at the same price, Ampere is the … Jensen Huang: (30:03) It’s a 2080 at the same price. Ampere is the biggest generational leap we’ve ever had. Ladies and gentlemen, Nvidia G-Force RTX 3080, our new flagship GPU. Powered by Ampere, our second generation RTX GPU architecture. Incredible amounts of processing in the shader, RT ray tracing core and tensor core for processing AI, 10 gigabytes of G6X, twice the processing power of 2080, and at the same price, starting at $699. Available September 17. One of our most popular GPUs is the 70 series, 970, 1070, 2070 were all hugely popular. You’re going to love the new RTX 3070, faster than the 2080 TI, the Turing enthusiast GPU priced at $1,200. Ladies and gentlemen, the new G-Force RTX 3070. Let me show it to you. Jensen Huang: (31:05) It’s a work of art. 20 shader teraflops, 40 RT teraflops, and 163 teraflops tensor core for AI processing. With eight gigabytes of G6, RTX 3070 is faster than the $1,200 RTX 2080 TI, starting at $499. Available in October. Every generation we pack in our best ideas to increase performance while introducing new features that enhance image quality. Every couple of generations, the stars aligned as it did with Pascal, and we get a giant generational leap. Pascal was known as the perfect 10. Pascal was a huge success and set a very high bar. It took the super family of Turing to meaningfully exceed Pascal on game performances without ray tracing. With ray tracing turned on, Pascal, using programmable shaders to compute ray triangle intersections, fell far behind Turing’s RT core, and Turing with ray tracing on reached the same performance as Pascal with ray tracing off. Jensen Huang: (32:11) On a technical basis, this was a huge achievement. The images are far more beautiful and reflection and shadow artifacts are gone, but gamers wanted more. They want every generation to be more realistic and higher frame rate at the same time. So we doubled down on everything, twice the shader, twice the ray tracing, and twice the tensor core, the triple double. Ampere knocks the daylights out of Pascal on ray tracing, and even with ray tracing on, crushes Pascal in frame rate. To all my Pascal gamer friends, it is safe to upgrade now. Amazing ray tracing games are coming. Activision and developer Treyarch are launching a new Call of Duty on November 13th. It’s a masterpiece and it looks incredible. They’re dynamic lights, ray tracing, shadows and ambient occlusion, DLSS 2.0, and Nvidia reflex super low latency technology. The last call of duty sold an amazing 30 million copies. Activision put together this trailer of never before seen footage. Enjoy. Let me talk to you about one more thing. Several years ago, we started building the Titan, pushing the GPU to the absolute limit to create the best graphics card of that generation. It was built in limited quantities, only through Nvidia. The distribution was limited. The demand surprised us. Creatives were making 4k movies, rendering cinematics, researchers built workstations for data science and AI, bloggers built broadcast workstations, flight and racing simulation fans built sim rigs. There is clearly a need for a giant GPU that is available all over the world. So we made a giant Ampere. Ladies and gentlemen, the RTX 3090. Come here, come here, papa. All right. 3090 is a beast, a ferocious GPU, a BFGPU, 36 shader teraflops, 69 RT teraflops, 285 tensor teraflops, and it comes with a massive 24 gigabytes of G6X. It comes with a silencer, a three slot dual axle flow through design, 10 times quieter, and keeps the GPU 30 degrees cooler than the Titan RTX design, but there’s more. The 3090 is so big that for the very first time we can play games at 60 frames per second in 8K. This is insane. Because it’s impossible for us to show you what it looks like on the stream, we invited some friends to check it out. Roll the clip. Speaker 3: (36:05) I’ve never been more excited to do anything. Speaker 4: (36:07) Oh. Speaker 3: (36:07) Are you kidding me? Speaker 4: (36:11) Oh my gosh. Speaker 5: (36:12) Oh my God. Speaker 6: (36:14) No way. Speaker 3: (36:15) This is f***ing incredible, dude. Speaker 5: (36:17) This is amazing. [inaudible 00:36:20] This is silly. Speaker 6: (36:24) My god, you can see Raymond’s [inaudible 00:36:27]. Speaker 3: (36:26) Look at this. Why is it so detailed? Speaker 6: (36:30) All right, all right, all right, move fast and shoot things. Speaker 4: (36:33) This is 8K, sir. I can see everything. Oh, I need a shoot you, though. Speaker 3: (36:36) Not a whole lot of people have seen something like this. Speaker 4: (36:38) This is so realistic. I feel like I’m really in battle. Speaker 5: (36:42) This is insane. Speaker 6: (36:44) Die, I want to look at the pretty things. There we go,. Speaker 5: (36:47) Dude, the ray tracing is insane on this. Speaker 3: (36:49) These are the sizzle reels that you see. Speaker 4: (36:51) This is basically hacks. Speaker 3: (36:53) And then it’s like, “It’ll never look like that,” but it does. Speaker 5: (36:57) I’m looking across the vistas, the grand vistas that are happening right now. Speaker 3: (37:01) Holy shit, look at this. Speaker 5: (37:02) This feels like a Disneyland experience. Oh, it is so smooth. It’s butter. Speaker 3: (37:07) Oh, it’s smooth as shit, dude. Speaker 5: (37:09) I can’t believe it’s not butter. Speaker 3: (37:10) I mean, this is game changing. There’s no other way to put it. My mind is blown dude. Wow. Jensen Huang: (37:20) It’s been 20 years since the Nvidia GPU introduced programmable shading. The GPU revolutionized modern computer graphics. Developers jumped on and invented clever algorithms, like shaders that simulate realistic materials, or post-processing effects for soft shadows, ambient inclusion, and reflections. Developers pushed the limits of rasterization beyond anyone’s expectations. Meanwhile, Nvidia GPU processing increased a stunning 100,000 fold. Gaming became a powerful technology driver. Gamers grew to billions, and gaming pushed into all aspects of entertainment and culture. If the last 20 years was amazing, the next 20 will seem nothing short of science fiction. Today’s Ampere launch is a giant step into the future. This is our greatest generational leap ever. The second generation Nvidia RTX, fusing programmable shading, ray tracing, and artificial intelligence gives us photorealistic graphics and the highest frame rates at the same time. Jensen Huang: (38:25) Once the holy grail of computer graphics, ray tracing is now the standard, and Ampere is going to bring you joy beyond gaming, and video reflex to improve your response time, and video broadcast turns any room into a studio. An omniverse machinima turns you into an animated filmmaker. We are super pleased with 3070, 3080, and 3090, the first three members of the Ampere generation. You’re going to feel a boost like never before. I can’t wait to go forward 20 years to see what RTX started. Homes will have holodecks. We will beam ourselves through time and space, traveling at the speed of light, sending photons, not atoms. In this future, G-Force is your holodeck, your lightspeed starship, your time machine. In this future, we will look back and realize that it started here. Thank you for joining us today and to all of our fans for celebrating the arrival of Ampere.
2020.09.11 22:13 smsussma Hot guy live cam
A little over a year ago my girlfriend, Charlotte Campbell, died in a fiery head-on collision with a drunk driver. As DD of the night, she was coming home from a college party after dropping off a few friends, when her tiny 2016 Toyota Camry was blindsided by an 18-wheeler driving on the wrong side of the highway. By the time police arrived at the scene, Charlotte’s body was charred and burned beyond recognition.
Turns out the guy’s BAC was .13. He’ll be in prison for life and I’ll never see my girlfriend again. The only thing that seemed to survive the crash besides the degenerate who killed her, was the relationship bracelet that I surprised her with on our 4 year anniversary. It was the left half of a heart in rose gold with her initials engraved into it, while mine was a matching piece that fit into hers like a deciphered puzzle. Her remains were cremated in an urn and buried in a plot at Saint Agatha Memorial Cemetery. The bracelet went with her, so that she always has a piece of me wherever she went.
A year later, after graduating college, I got my first job, and rented out my first home. I was still completely confused by my girlfriend’s sudden death. It’s mainly the irony of it all that seemed incredulous. My girlfriend was never a heavy drinker to begin with and was always smart behind the wheel. So, it seemed all too unsettling that her life was taken by a drunk driver. I eventually concluded that some things can never be fully explained. Constantly obsessing and overanalyzing Charlotte’s death was counterproductive and stalled the recovery process.
One night, a tinge of horniness swept over me. I hadn’t had the emotional capacity to date or have sex in over a year. That desire in me remained dormant. With this sudden wave of horniness came guilt. Guilt that I was craving sex without Charlotte, guilt that I was craving romance in my life without her, and guilt that I may be ready to start seeing other people. I was pretty hesitant about the idea at first but decided that maybe, it was time? Maybe, I was using my girlfriend’s death as an excuse to shield me from the fear of falling in love again and the potential grief of ever losing that person.
I decided to start small, something with no strings attached and required minimal emotional investment. I had never used dating apps before but quickly opened up to the idea. That night, while looking into some dating apps to download, I got an email notification about an app called “Curio.” Puzzled, I clicked on it. The email read, “Welcome to Curio! Are you CURIO-us to meet that special someone? Click the link below to download our free dating app.”
Again, I didn’t know too much about dating apps besides the standard Tinder and Bumble, so I decided to give this one a go. I clicked on the link, which redirected me to the app store to download. Its icon was a black square with a peculiar red “C” in its center. I double tapped on it and moments later I found myself filling out basic questions about myself. My name, my age, I even spent about 10 minutes digging through my camera roll to find six solid pictures of myself. Upon searching, I discovered a few old photos of Charlotte and I, that I had completely forgotten about.
Some of these included: a picture of us in straw hats and leis during our spring break trip to Cancun, a picture of us kissing in front of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, and a picture of us in matching USA tees during a beer olympics game, junior year. That picture in Cancun brought back a vivid memory of us coming back to our hotel that night, belligerently drunk, and calling ourselves the “Tequila twins.” From then on, before going to any event involving alcohol, we would say to each other, “The Tequila Twins are back at it again!”
The nostalgia was all too fleeting. To avoid tearing up, I quickly rounded up a few solo pictures to post on my profile. Moments later, I was presented with some profile cards. Most of the women on this app were pretty average looking, 6’s at best. I was continuously swiping left for a while before I gave up and decided to maybe try again tomorrow. It was getting pretty late and I needed to be up early for work the next morning.
To my surprise, I received a notification from Curio the following day that read, “Congratulations! You have a new match.” I was slightly confused by this, namely because I had no recollection of swiping right on anybody last night. However, I was pretty tired and assumed that I could have easily swiped right on somebody without even paying attention. Curious to see who this mystery woman was, I double tapped on the notification and was redirected to her profile.
However, I was horrified to see that this woman appeared to be a carbon copy of Charlotte. Upon further examination, this person appeared to share her same name and age as well. Hastily, I surveyed her profile and skimmed through her photos with a quickness. As these pictures became very familiar to me, my face grew hot with anger.
What sicko creates a fake profile of a dead person? I thought to myself.
Before I could message this asshole my two cents, I was interrupted by the user.
“Hey :)” they said.
“Whoever is doing this, please take this profile down immediately! You think this is funny??? What kind of fucking psychopath does something like this?” I shot back.
“Cam, it’s me :) Char.”
I could feel my heart throbbing out of my chest as beads of sweat spawned across my forehead.
My hands shook as I messaged back, “Please, fucking stop this now!”
“But I miss my tequila twin :((((”
At this point, I could barely breathe. I felt myself numbing out of reality as a sudden ringing in my ears took over my senses.
“Who the fuck is this?!”
“Cam, it’s me. Char! Please talk to me, babe :[”
Instantly, I shut off the app. I was so caught up in the madness of it all that I hadn’t realized that I was running late for work. I quickly threw on some clothes and rushed out of the house, writing off this mishap as some sick, twisted, joke.
As I arrived to work 10 minutes late, I was chastised by my verbally abusive manager for my tardiness.
“This is the second time this month, Cameron! Don’t let it fucking happen again!” he spat.
“Yes, sir.” I muttered, returning to my desk in a huff.
“Ahh don’t take it personally, man.” comforted my co-worker, Rob. “Big Ted’s just angrier than usual because of the um....divorce.” he whispered.
“Divorce?” I scoffed. “Isn’t he on his like, third wife already?”
“Fourth, actually.” Rob corrected. “First wife, cheated. Second wife got deported back to Russia. Third wife had a heroin overdose. And I think this one was just a rebound tired of his shit.”
“I hate corporate America.” I jeered, turning on my desktop. “By the way, have you ever heard of that new dating app, Curio?”
“Nope, I’m more of a Tinder type of guy. But now I’m...CURIO. HA, get it?! Curio...curious?” Rob joked.
I chuckled nervously while scrolling through my work email, hoping that my corporate job would calm me down and take my mind off of things. As I refreshed my inbox, a new email appeared from Curio about how I received another notification from the app. Again, I was a little confused about how this app somehow got access to my work email and was sending me notifications through it. Hesitantly, I clicked on the notification which revealed a picture message from “Charlotte.”
It was a photo of my back porch with a note that read: “The new place looks great...without me :/ We were supposed to move in together. Left a little gift at your door since you don’t want to talk to me anymore...”
While reading that note, I could feel my heart picking up speed as a wave of anxiety crashed over me. Clumsily, I stumbled right out of my desk chair and backed away from my computer in horror. As I fumbled around the floor for support, Rob helped me back up on my feet.
“Whoa, you okay man? You don’t look so good.” Rob asked, concerned.
“I-I gotta go, it’s an emergency.” I replied. Quickly, I shut off my desktop and rushed out of the building with fear in one hand and my jacket in the other. The ride to my house seemed to drag on forever. Yet, by the time I parked into my driveway my heart was thumping wildly out of my chest and I would do anything to be right back in my office.
I grabbed an old baseball bat from my trunk, and slowly approached the front porch. I was surprised to find the door still locked. Nonetheless, I searched every nook and cranny of my house for any intruders and thankfully, I was alone. Everything appeared exactly as I had left it and nothing was stolen.
I took a deep breath and laughed a bit. I couldn’t believe that I was allowing some internet troll to drive me nuts.
My location on the app is on, they could’ve easily discovered my location on Google Maps, taken a screenshot of my back porch, and sent me that message to try to mess with me. I reasoned.
Thus, I decided to return back to work and locked up on my way out. As I exited my home through the back porch, I was interrupted by a light crunching noise beneath my foot. I paused and lifted the heel of my shoe to discover a shimmering object dangling from it. After retrieving this mysterious object, my heart sunk upon closer examination.
It appeared to be a rose gold bracelet with the left half of a heart swaying from it, and the initials “C.C” engraved into the pendant. I twisted my wrist, revealing the matching piece. I suddenly realized that I hadn’t taken it off since the funeral. I fit my half of the pendant into the other piece, revealing a perfectly mended heart. Dazed and confused, I shook my head and abandoned the bracelet as quickly as I retrieved it. It landed back onto the doormat as I rushed back to my car with tears in my eyes.
Swiftly, I reached into my back pocket for my phone and aggressively began typing out a message to “Charlotte.”
“Please tell me who the fuck this is, right now?!”
I received a reply back in seconds.
“Cam, why are you mad at me? :( I miss you so much and this is how you treat your girlfriend?”
“This isn’t fucking funny! I’m filing a report.”
Quickly, I reported the account for “false identity”, unmatched the user, and deleted the app from my phone, altogether. I ended up crying in the front seat of my car for a bit before mustering up the strength to drive back to work. Luckily, Big Ted was out for the rest of the day at a press conference. So, I didn’t have to suffer any consequences for running out of the building with no explanation.
By the end of the day I felt pretty weighed down by stress and grief that I ended up passing out on my couch for a few hours. I was eventually woken up by the melody of my mobile ringtone. I checked my lockscreen for the caller ID, which displayed Rob’s contact.
I picked up and yawned into the speaker, “Hey, man. What’s up?”
“Yo, Cam! Hope I’m not interrupting anything, was just wondering what the name of that dating app was that you were talking to me about earlier?” he asked. “I’m getting so tired of these same old bullshit apps.”
I stretched a bit and scratched my head. As I perched myself up on the couch, I replied, “Yeah, it’s called ‘Curio.’ C-U-R-I-O.”
There was a brief pause as Rob quietly echoed the spelling into the speaker while tapping away into the app store search bar.
“Hm...that’s weird.” he said.
“What?” I asked.
“Can’t seem to find it anywhere. You sure I got the spelling right?”
“Yeah, it’s C-U-R-I-O. Curio.” I repeated.
“Hm. Yeah, bro. Can’t seem to find it anywhere. No worries, though. This phone’s pretty old. Could just be a glitch or something. Anyway, I’ll see you tomorrow. Sleep tight!”
Suddenly, I was stricken with curiosity and began searching up the app on Google. Something, I probably should’ve done much sooner. I was surprised to find absolutely no information on the app, despite constantly receiving emails from the company and having downloaded it onto my phone. I even tried different variations of spelling and keywords to no avail. Defeated, I dragged myself up to bed and found solace in the fact that Curio wasn’t my problem anymore.
Yet, I was horrified to discover the app reinstalled onto my phone the next morning. I had also received another “Congratulations! You have a new match.” notification. After double tapping on the alert, I was redirected to the profile of my match. My face hardened and lost its color after realizing who it was. I had somehow rematched with “Charlotte” overnight.
“How?” I muttered to myself. Moments later I received a video message from the user with a note. As I squinted my eyes to get a better look, it appeared to be a video of my dimly lit room. The camera quality was terrible but whoever was filming approached my bed at such a distance, that the light of their camera flash fully illuminated the side of my face as I was sleeping in my bed last night.
Beneath it, the user wrote, “You’re so handsome when you sleep ;)”
At this point, It felt as if I was losing touch with reality. It was time to take this matter to authorities. I sped to the police station before work and after arriving, I aggressively slammed my phone down in front of two officers at the front desk.
“Hi, I believe I am being stalked by someone pretending to be my dead girlfriend on a dating app.” I blurted.
The two officers exchanged befuddled looks before one of them spoke up. “Slow down, son. Can you tell me your name and what app you’re even talking about?” he asked.
“Yeah, My name’s Cameron Hill. My girlfriend, Charlotte Campbell, passed away a little over a year ago and somebody on this app, ‘Curio’ is harassing me and pretending to be her. I think they know where I live. They’ve been sending pictures and videos of me, as well as the inside and outside of my house.” I replied, sternly. I unlocked my phone for them and opened the app.
Both officers narrowed their eyes as they inspected the screen for a few moments.
“You ever try Tinder, kid?” chuckled one of them—a stocky man who was suffering from a pretty extreme case of premature balding. I didn’t laugh. The goofy expression on his face faded rather quickly.
“Yeah, I don’t know what’s going on here but this app keeps freezing up and closing before I can even see anything.” said the other officer—a better looking version of his partner.
“You probably don’t have nothing to worry about, though. Usually these type of cyberbullying scenarios end up being carried out by a bunch of punks behind the scenes.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “Cyberbullying? Sir, with all due respect. I believe that I am being stalked and hunted.”
“Listen, kid. If you experience any more threats, you have our number.”
I glared angrily at both of them, before snatching my phone and storming out of there. A complete waste of my time. I arrived at work five minutes late and received yet another verbal beating by my boss.
“You’re so fucking unqualified for this job, it isn’t even funny. If it weren’t for your rich ass father buying your way into every opportunity in life, you would be living on the streets. Lately, you’ve been offering absolutely nothing to this company. STOP SHOWING UP LATE!” he spat. I grit my teeth and forced a calm response, “Yes, sir. Won’t happen again.”
Luckily, work flew by and I was home before I knew it. Lately, the mental exhaustion of my life put me to sleep on my couch as soon as I got home. However, I found myself waking up a few hours later to a Curio message notification from “Charlotte.”
“It’s been three days, Cam. I miss you so much :/ Can we please meet up tonight?” she asked.
I then offered a speedy reply. “I don’t know who this is...But Charlotte Campbell, the person who you are impersonating is dead. Gone. Buried at Saint Agatha’s Cemetery miles and miles away from here. Now please, leave me alone.”
I then closed my eyes and massaged my temples for a few moments before my phone buzzed again. It was a much more grim message this time.
“You have until 9 PM tonight to come find me, or I’ll drag you to Hell with me.”
Once again, that wave of anxiety and dread swept over me as my heart thumped out of my chest. I took a second to think, before pulling out Google. I attempted to do a second search into the app where I was left with no answers. I then went back into my email and discovered that the original sender was anonymous and out of my domain. I even attempted to email this anonymous sender. However, the message failed and was apparently an “invalid email address.”
As I reexamined the first email, featuring the Curio ad, I noticed some very fine print at the bottom of the email, which read, “If your CURIO-sity is fulfilled. Please, pass this message along to another friend who lost a lover ❤️🖤We’re here to piece love back together.” I took a moment to think hard about what this all meant, but by the end of the night I had a feeling that I wouldn’t be hearing from “Charlotte.” ever again.
I woke up the next morning, very much alive and not in Hell. When I checked the lockscreen of my phone, all notifications from Curio had ceased and the app had somehow been wiped clean off of my phone, including any emails sent about them. It was as if the app had never even existed.
I arrived at work in high spirits and surprisingly, so did my boss. He even apologized for yelling at me the past few days and saying all of those mean things. He said that we have to, “Hold on tight to those who are there for us and to never take them for granted.” Since that day, nobody has seen him since. There was no formal goodbye or leave of the company. Theodore McClow, or “Big Ted” as we called him in the office, has been missing for months and hasn’t been found since that day.
Since then, I’ve moved to a different town with a different job. I’m much happier here and I’ve even met someone new without the help of dating apps. However, to anyone who gets an email about an app called “Curio.” PLEASE, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE APP. Do as the fine print says...
2020.09.11 03:17 xylopolist Guy cam live hot
Welcome back to the Rookie Report! We’re on the brink of a new season, albeit a strange one. Stadiums with no fans, the Raiders in Vegas, 14 playoff spots, and no Tom Brady in New England are just a few of the things that will feel strange this year – but football will go on. Of course, there’s always the looming threat of a Covid-19 outbreak derailing things, but I’m going to operate from the optimistic point of view that things will go on as scheduled. If you’re new to the Rookie Report, each week I’ll be breaking down the matchups that the rookie class will be facing and letting you know which ones are good fantasy options and which ones should be avoided. I’ll throw in some sleepers and guys to stash on the bench as well, and I try to cover all of the fantasy relevant rookies each week (kickers excluded). Make sure to read the details on each player and not just what header they’re under since some of these may be format specific. Any players under the same header that play the same position are listed in the order that I would play them this week.
The rookies are always a tough group to predict for fantasy production, but week 1 is always tough since we don’t have any on field production to go off of when making decisions. This year we don’t even have preseason games. For some of these predictions you have to read the tea leaves a bit and read between the lines of the coachspeak, and sometimes you just have to trust the talent of the player to win out. With all that in mind, let’s dive in and talk about week 1…
Rookies to Start: RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, KC (Wk. 1: vs. Hou.): If you have CEH, you likely took him in the first round, so you don’t need me to tell you that you’re starting him every week unless he gives you a reason not to. The Chiefs have the highest projected point total in the league this week at 31.75, and the Texans were in the bottom-6 in the league last year at limiting RB fantasy points. They were especially vulnerable to receiving backs, allowing more receptions per game to backs than every team other than the Colts. There’s no reason to shy away from CEH in DFS lineups despite a $7,000 price tag in DraftKings. Editor's Note: this article was posted here on /fantasyfootball after TNF aired, although it was composed earlier. Sheesh. :)
RB Jonathan Taylor, IND (Wk. 1: @ Jax.): Taylor will be in a prime spot to make a splash in his NFL debut. You likely drafted him as your RB2 unless you started with 3 straight running backs, so you’re probably going to play him regardless of what I write here. I won’t try to stop you. He’ll likely be splitting the backfield work with Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines this week, but the Jaguars were one of the worst defenses in the league against opposing running backs last year and lost Calais Campbell, Yannick Ngakoue and AJ Bouye from that defense in the offseason. They’re projected to be one of the worst teams in the league and are an 8-point home underdog in week one. The Colts should be able to run plenty in this one, and I expect Taylor’s talent to show through even if his opportunities are limited. He’s a solid RB2 option this week.
WR CeeDee Lamb, DAL (Wk. 1: @ LAR): Lamb is the best of the rookie receiver crop in my opinion, and he gets a great opportunity to start proving me right in week 1. The Rams consistently use Jalen Ramsey to shadow the opposing team’s #1 receiver, and with Dallas that means Ramsey will be chasing around Amari Cooper. This will be good news for both Lamb and Michael Gallup who get to face off with Troy Hill and Darious Williams instead. Advantage Cowboys. Despite Zeke Elliott racking up plenty of carries last season, the Cowboys ranked 10th in pass attempts, 2nd in passing yards and 5th in passing TDs in 2019, so there is plenty of volume to go around, and this week that volume should be finding Lamb and Gallup. The Cowboys also have the 3rd-highest implied point total of the week at 27.5. You may not have drafted Lamb as one of your top 3 wide receivers this season, but this could be a week to get him in the lineup over someone you drafted before him. At just $4,100 in DraftKings, he’s a screaming value for tournaments.
Borderline Rookies: RB Cam Akers, LAR (Wk. 1: vs. Dal.): Akers enters week 1 listed as the number 3 running back on the depth chart with Malcolm Brown as the starter and Darrell Henderson at #2, but I see ‘starter’ as a nominal title for Brown. He’s a guy the team trusts to do the job if the others don’t step up, but he’s not a feature back that you build around. Darrell Henderson is playing catch-up a little bit after being banged up in camp, and I think Akers has a real chance to take over the lead role in week 1. I expect the team will ride whoever gets the hot hand this week, but this is an offense that creates plenty of fantasy production for the running back position. We know that Todd Gurley was an otherworldly talent at his peak, but McVay has also gotten productive fantasy seasons from Alfred Morris and Rob Kelley when he was in Washington, and an incredible 3-game stretch from a seemingly washed up CJ Anderson in LA. Dallas was a middling run defense last season, so if Akers is able to get the bulk of the work this week, he’s got obvious RB2 upside.
RB Zack Moss, BUF (Wk. 1: vs. NYJ): The Jets boasted one of the best run defenses in the league a year ago, but in the offseason they lost two of the guys that were big reasons why they were so effective. CJ Mosley opted out of 2020, and Jamal Adams was dealt to Seattle. Even if the Jets are able to be a solid run defense again without those guys, they’re likely going to be playing from behind so much that the RB counting stats are still going to add up. Moss enters the season expected to be the Bills’ early down running back. The Bills had the 7th-highest rushing percentage in the league last year, running on 47.5% of their offensive snaps, and they figure to be run-heavy again. I’d expect Moss to finish week 1 around 15 touches, and he’d be first in line for any goal line carries. That puts him firmly on the flex radar in 12-team leagues and is a better play in non-PPR formats.
WR Henry Ruggs, LVR (Wk. 1: @ Car.): Ruggs was the first receiver off the board in April, and he’ll open the season as the team’s WR1 with Tyrell Williams out for the year. Ruggs has the speed to be a dangerous deep threat, but with Derek Carr at QB he’ll likely have to make his living on schemed touches in the short part of the field where he creates yards after the catch. As the WR1, I’m sure Jon Gruden will make sure Carr is getting the ball to Ruggs, but the group of pass catchers that thrives in the short part of the field is crowded in Vegas. Hunter Renfrow, Darren Waller, and Jalen Richard are all good receivers in that area, so I don’t see Ruggs being a target hog early on. His road to being a fantasy standout will be through creating big plays. He’ll get a chance to do that against a Carolina defense that isn’t terrible against the pass but isn’t imposing either. Ruggs is a boom-or-bust option who is capable of a Marquise Brown style week 1 breakout (Brown went 4-147-2 in week 1 last year), but is also capable of falling short of 40 yards.
WR Jerry Jeudy, DEN (Wk. 1: vs. Ten.): Jeudy is an outstanding talent and landed on a team where he’ll walk right into the WR2 role in the offense, but it’s not a high volume passing offense and he’ll likely start the year behind both Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant in the pecking order. That outlook may have changed on Thursday with Sutton suffering a shoulder injury in practice. If Sutton sits, Jeudy could be the WR1 in week 1. No cornerback on the Titans should be capable of stopping Sutton, but they probably won’t be quite as overmatched by Jeudy. Fant should be in line for a nice day as the Titans struggled to contain tight ends last year, allowing the 6th-most points per game to the position. Keep an eye on the Sutton updates. If Sutton sits or is going to be limited, Jeudy should see enough volume to be a playable WR3 option. If it seems like Sutton is going to be fine, I would probably keep Jeudy benched until we see what his target share looks like as the WR2.
WR Brandon Aiyuk, SF (Wk. 1: vs. Ari.): Aiyuk’s status is still up in the air this week, as is Deebo Samuel’s. If Aiyuk plays and Deebo doesn’t, there should be some consideration for getting Aiyuk in your lineup as a flex option. He may be facing off with Patrick Peterson in that scenario, but Peterson was anything but his typical self after returning from a 6-game suspension to open the 2019 season. He rounded into form late in the year, but Peterson is on the wrong side of 30 and Aiyuk is the type of receiver that can win at all levels of the field. The 49ers’ offense is going to run through George Kittle and their running backs, but they do have an implied point total of 27.25, so it’s likely that *some* receiver puts up a nice fantasy game Sunday. If he plays, Aiyuk is likely to lead the wide receiver group in targets, giving him the best shot of being that guy.
Rookies to Sit: QB Joe Burrow, CIN (Wk. 1: vs. LAC): I like Burrow’s upside over the course of the year as a QB2, but I think there will be some growing pains in the early part of the season. The Chargers are not an inviting matchup for an NFL debut. They’ve got a solid pass rush anchored by Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. No team blitzed less than the Chargers in 2019, and yet they ranked 13th in the league in QB pressure percentage. It didn’t translate into a lot of sacks, but the addition of Linval Joseph to the middle of the line should help free up the edge rushers to be more disruptive this season. The team will be hurt by the loss of Derwin James to injury, but they still boast one of the best starting pairs of corners in the league in Casey Heyward and Chris Harris. I think there is a good chance the Chargers make Burrow look like a rookie in his debut and would be hesitant to play him in 2 QB leagues if I didn’t have to.
RB JK Dobbins, BAL (Wk. 1: vs. Cle.): If I drafted Dobbins as my RB3 this season, I’d be tempted to play him this week. The Browns ranked 30th in Football Outsiders’ run defense DVOA stat last year, and the Ravens are favored by 8 in the opener. There could be some garbage time for Dobbins once the Ravens get out in front, but Baltimore may still try and keep Gus Edwards and/or Justice Hill involved in the run game as well. The official team depth chart listed Dobbins as the 4th-string back. I expect he’ll work as the number 2 guy behind Mark Ingram but would like to see how the rotation plays out before putting Dobbins in my lineups. I
RB Antonio Gibson, WAS (Wk. 1: vs. Phi.): Gibson has had a ton of buzz around him during camp after Washington cut Adrian Peterson. He’s a versatile player who has drawn comparisons from the coaching staff to Christian McCaffrey. That’s obviously a pretty big stretch, but the head coach and offensive coordinator making the comparison were both in Carolina last year. I think Gibson will be the best fantasy back on the team this year, but I don’t love him for week 1. The Eagles ranked third in run defense DVOA last season, and I expect we’ll see Peyton Barber handle most of the early down work early in the season for Washington. Gibson will also be competing with JD McKissic and Bryce Love for 3rd-down work. The team is thin at wide receiver, so you could even see Gibson line up in the slot a bit since he played a lot of wide receiver in college. All in all, there’s just too much uncertainty about what his week 1 role will look like to trust him in fantasy lineups.
RB D’Andre Swift, DET (Wk. 1: vs. Chi.): Swift has been working through a couple injuries in camp but should be able to suit up on Sunday. The problem is that with the signing of Adrian Peterson this backfield figures to be a three-headed monster, and that’ll be a headache for fantasy players. Swift may get the valuable 3rd down passing work, but I’d like to see how the workload is divided before relying on any Lions running back in my fantasy lineups. I’d take a wait and see approach with Swift.
RB AJ Dillon, GB (Wk. 1: @ Min): Dillon enters week 1 listed as the 3rd running back on the depth chart in Green Bay, and while I would normally tell you to ignore the official team depth charts at this point, this one feels like how it’ll actually play out on the field. I’d expect Aaron Jones to be the clear lead back with a mix of Jamaal Williams and Dillon spelling him for some early down work. The best bet for Dillon getting a healthy workload would be garbage time in a blowout win, but that seems unlikely with the Vikings favored by 3. I’d keep Dillon away from your lineups.
RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn, TB (Wk. 1: @ NO): In case you drafted Vaughn early and have been living under a rock in recent weeks, the signings of Leonard Fournette and LeSean McCoy will make Vaughn mostly useless for now in fantasy leagues. He’ll likely be limited to special teams early in the season and won’t have much value without injuries in front of him. Feel free to drop him outside of dynasty leagues.
WR Michael Pittman Jr., IND (Wk. 1: @ Jax): Pittman should see the field quite a bit in week 1, but I don’t expect it to translate into fantasy production just yet. The Colts played 61% of their snaps last season in 11 personnel (3 WR), and their 3-WR sets to open the year should feature Pittman, TY Hilton and Parris Campbell, but the bulk of the passing volume should go through Hilton and Campbell (along with Jack Doyle and Nyheim Hines). The Colts are an 8-point road favorite this week, and I’d expect them to lean heavily on the running game which will limit how many targets there are to go around. If Pittman makes it to even 5 targets, I’d consider his week 1 to be a successful one.
WR Chase Claypool, PIT (Wk. 1: @ NYG): The Steelers have spent much of the summer talking up Claypool, but this is an offense with a lot of mouths to feed. The return of Ben Roethlisberger should make this a much more fantasy-friendly offense than it was last year, but Claypool enters the season as no higher than 4th in the target pecking order. The Steelers do have a favorable matchup this week and have the 5th-highest implied total of the week, and Big Ben hasn’t really played much with James Washington or Diontae Johnson, so if you want to roll the dice on Claypool in a DFS tournament (just a $3,000 price tag in DraftKings) I wouldn’t fault you for it. For season-long leagues you should have safer options for week 1.
WR Denzel Mims, NYJ (Wk. 1: @ BUF): It sounds like Mims is going to play this week, but after missing much of camp with a hamstring injury, I wouldn’t count on him getting a full workload in this one. It also remains to be seen which outside receiver will tangle with standout corner Tre’Davious White. Breshad Perriman is coming off an injury of his own, and both players make for poor options against a tough Bills defense with the Jets having an implied point total of just 16.5 points.
WR Justin Jefferson, MIN (Wk. 1: vs. GB): Jefferson is a very talented receiver, and the Vikings obviously believe in him after drafting him in the first round in April, but he’ll likely open the season splitting WR2 snaps with Bisi Johnson. The Vikings play with 3 WRs less often than any other team in the league. They consistently operate out of a 2 tight end base set with Kyle Rudolph and Irv Smith Jr. Jefferson will eventually work his way past Bisi, but I’d want to see what kind of opportunities he gets early on before trusting him in my fantasy lineup. His week one matchup isn’t all that appealing either. Green Bay is one of just 2 teams in the league that allowed less than 10 receptions per game to opposing wide receivers last year.
WR Tee Higgins, CIN (Wk. 1: vs. LAC): With AJ Green expected to play week 1, it’ll be hard for Higgins to get on the field much. It looks like Green, Tyler Boyd and Auden Tate will be the trio on the field in 3 wide receiver sets, and Higgins will be competing with John Ross for any leftover reps. There’s no reason to consider Higgins for week 1.
TE Cole Kmet, CHI (Wk. 1: @ DET: Kmet was the first tight end drafted in April, but he doesn’t figure to play a large role early in his rookie season. He’ll open the season behind at least Jimmy Graham on the depth chart, and possibly Demetrius Harris as well. The Lions were a middle of the pack defense against tight ends a year ago, but Kmet shouldn’t be a consideration in any formats this week.
Deep League Sleepers, Stashes, and Cheap DFS Options: QB Tua Tagovailoa, MIA (Wk. 1: @ NE): I don’t list Tua here with any thoughts of you using him in week 1. I mention him in case you’re in a 2-QB league where he’s sitting on the waiver wire. He’s going to take over for Fitzpatrick at some point this season, and when he does he’s going to have big-time upside. He’s worth stashing if you have the roster spot in superflex and 2-QB leagues. I would rather have Tua than fellow rookie Justin Herbert.
RB Josh Kelley, LAC (Wk. 1: @ CIN): Kelley enters week 1 as the likely backup to Austin Ekeler, but that role will probably come with 10-12 touches and possibly more if the Chargers pull away. Ekeler isn’t built to be a 20+ touch per game kind of back and the Chargers are shifting to a more run-heavy approach this season with Philip Rivers gone. Kelley looks like the back who will pick up the slack the Melvin Gordon left behind. Only 4 teams allowed more rushing yards last season than the Bengals, and while Cincy could be improved with the addition of DJ Reader to their D-line, I expect they’ll still find themselves in a lot of negative game scripts. For week 1, Ekeler has RB1 upside, but Kelley isn’t a terrible option as a flex in deep leagues. He’s someone you should be picking up everywhere if he’s on the waiver wire. I expect his role will grow as the season progresses.
RB James Robinson, JAX (Wk. 1: vs. Ind.): What a difference a week makes for Robinson. A week ago Robinson looked like he was going the be the number 4 or 5 running back on the depth chart, but since then Leonard Fournette was cut, Ryquell Armstead went back on the Covid-reserve list, and Devine Ozigbo landed on IR. Robinson is suddenly the projected starter this week. Chris Thompson will handle most of the 3rd down work, but Robinson is going to be on the field a lot. The Colts didn’t give up many running back touchdowns last season (6), but they gave up plenty of yards to them, both on the ground and through the air. The Jaguars project to be playing from behind in this one, so Chris Thompson is probably the guy that will lead this backfield in fantasy scoring this week, but in deep leagues a starting running back is hard to ignore. Robinson certainly shouldn’t be on your waiver wire and he has 10+ point upside this week.
WR Bryan Edwards, LVR (Wk. 1: @ Car): Ruggs is the guy with the draft capital, but Bryan Edwards may emerge as the alpha receiver on this Vegas team. He excels in the intermediate part of the field where few other receivers on the team do, and he’s easily the most physical of their receivers, which will serve him well in the red zone. His QB has compared him to former teammates Davante Adams and James Jones, both of whom excel at getting in the end zone. The Raiders have a reasonable implied point total of 25.25 this week, and if I had to bet on any Vegas pass catcher getting in the end zone it would be Edwards. He costs just $4,200 in DraftKings and is very likely to outperform that price tag. He may not get as many targets as Ruggs, but don’t be surprised if he outscores the first rounder in week 1.
WR Laviska Shenault, JAX (Wk. 1: vs. Ind.): After all of the changes and injuries that have come up for the Jaguars over the last week or 2, about the only thing that seems clear with this offense is that DJ Chark is going to be targeted a lot. I’ll add a second thing here – Laviska Shenault is going to be very involved in this offense. Reports out of camp this week are that the Jaguars are getting VERY creative with the ways they’re using him. He’s a versatile player that lined up all over the field in college and is dynamic with the ball in the open field. I expect Jacksonville to make it a point to get the ball into his hands any way they can, even if it means handing it to him out of the backfield. Viska has a higher DraftKings price tag than some of the other rookies at $4,400, but he could be a really interesting option in limited slate contests. 10 touches isn’t out of the question in week 1.
WR Van Jefferson, LAR (Wk. 1: vs. GB): I wasn’t high on Jefferson coming into camp, but he’s been impressive. He’s not an explosive athlete, but his football IQ and feel for the game are off the charts. He’s a route running technician who was a tough cover for Jalen Ramsey in camp. It remains to be seen if he’s fully overtaken Josh Reynolds for the WR3 role in the offense, but if he has he’ll be on the field a lot. The Rams like to line up with 3 wide receivers on the field as much as anyone. Dallas was stingy against wide receivers a year ago, but they said goodbye to their number one corner Byron Jones in the offseason. Jefferson is more of a stash right now, but if he’s on the field as the WR3 a 4-60 kind of game wouldn’t be that crazy for him this week.
WR John Hightower, PHI (Wk. 1: @ Was): Hightower has a chance to benefit from a couple of injuries ahead of him this week, and also from the extra attention the Washington secondary will give to DeSean Jackson. D-Jax burned them in the opener last year with 2 TDs of 50+ yards. They’re going to do everything they can to make sure that doesn’t happen again. That means less attention for JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Greg Ward, and Hightower. Of that trio, Hightower is the only one with the burner speed to hurt Washington deep. He’s a DFS tournament dart throw who will cost the minimum in DraftKings, and can have a nice NFL debut with just one or two deep balls.
That’s all I’ve got for this week. Hopefully it helps you as you try to figure out what to do with the rookies on your team for week 1. Keep a close eye on the injury report this week to make sure you don’t end up playing anyone inactive. Feel free to hit me up on twitter (@Shawn_Foss) if you have any questions or want to yell at me about anything written above. As always: Good luck, trust your gut, and have fun. It’s just a game. 2020.09.10 02:26 MasonL52 Guy live cam hot
An Ode to Upton Bowl VII
It’s the night before kick-off, and all of our bois are about
With utmost confidence in their rosters
No, not one shred out doubt.
All these hopes and aspirations will quickly turn to stress and pain
For all except one, who among us will reign
Alex your draft was terrible, no matter which way you boil it
So we expect your team to take after you
and ending up sleeping on the toilet
Low in the rankings Dalton, we all consider your team yucky
In spite of a bad draft and mismanagement
We still expect to hear “I was just unlucky!”
I expect Jake to get last place again, and when that happens he’ll mourn
But then out of the corner of his eye
Jesus Christ it’s Kendrick Bourne!
With his rank Nick was heated, and as always sassy galore
But that’s what will happen
When your team is no ceiling, all floor
Trent’s 3 RB stack may be impressive, alongside an extra Mike Evans
but that won’t stop his record from matching his height
Finishing at 5-7
It won’t be easy being the rookie Justin, with long nights and days that aren’t sunny
But don’t be quick to give up
Because you already gave us your money
Chris your draft was impressive, some may even say it was great
But you’ll keep taking Ls
Because line-ups are locked, and you were 15 minutes late.
Marcus has had great success, certainly more than to our likings
But for that he should be proud
He has more championships than the Vikings
Cory’s draft went really well, this we all have accepted
But if you make it to the end..
Malcolm Butler! Intercepted!
voted #1 by you, and I know it wasn’t to pander
But hell yeah motherfuckers
Signed, your Lord Commander.
2020 Upton Bowl Week-0 Power Rankings!
10. Alex - Long-Standing Score: 1.63/10 (10th)
Legacy: We have a new basement dweller as Alex was ranked far and away the worst player in the league, even behind Justin who has yet to play a single game here. You tend to get the benefit of doubt in this league and Alex’s one Upton Bowl loss doesn’t earn that for him, coming off of two straight Kraken Bowl appearances and one of which he ‘won’. Meaning Alex is out to prove those flukes and that he can at least be an admirable contestant. His roster immediately doesn’t inspire confidence, but maybe Alex sees an angle the rest of us don’t.
Self Rank and Reflection: Long-Standing: 8 / Draft Team: 8
“Feel somewhat decent. Aiming for Gronk, missed Kyler Murray and DJ Chark and most RBs”
Drafted Team Score: 1.22
High: 2
Low: 1
Draft Strategy: There doesn’t seem to be any discernible strategy looking over how the draft went for Alex, and if there was any it went out the window when WR1 Michael Thomas fell all the way to the 10th overall pick. A bargain for sure, but the turn pick of Miles Sanders left us all in shock. While it wasn’t necessarily a huge reach, it still seemed like an odd choice with a bevy of RB options left a la Nick Chubb, Joe Mixon, Austin Ekeler and even CEH. It should be on the record Alex was the only one not in attendance in the group Discord during the draft as he was on a work trip drafting from his phone. Maybe this had something to do with his odd choices, maybe someone called him during his pick. Who really knows? I can appreciate the Odell/Kittle picks next, but the filling out of the rest of his roster was quite strange. Tom Brady in the 5th, not great but not bad… Rob Gronkowski in the 9th and then TJ Hockenson in the 12th after he already had Kittle? Quite questionable, but with the TE premium addition maybe Alex will have some trade value at some point this season. Maybe. Julian Edelman, Devin Singletary, Phillip Rivers make up other questionable picks.
On second thought I think the strategy Alex was going for is clear and the one he usually sticks with. Take his guys, and value when it’s there. He did the first part for sure.
Other Statements:
“I'm so sorry Alex”
“Got Mike Thomas I guess”
“I mean, come on I dont want to be mean”
“What a dogshit draft. 3 TEs, are you fucking braindead?”
“Michael Thomas and George Kittle were value!”
“There are none (strengths)”
“The rest of the team sucks! 3TEs!? K lmao”
“I think Tom Brady could do really well on the Bucs? Micheal Thomas.”
“Dawg what are thosssseeee me point at the rest of his team seriously though, Alex what went wrong, your qbs are thin (besides rivers) 3TEs?! wat? (Please prove me wrong maybe you're playing 5D chess idfk) Personally not a fan of OBJ or AJ green this year.”
9. Dalton - Long-Standing Score: 5.12/10 (6th)
Legacy: Dalton will be the first to tell you he’s been the unluckiest player in the league. Is there some merit to that? Sure, but does anyone else care? Dalton has coasted on his UB II win for years to keep him somewhat respected, but after dipping in long-standing rankings for a while he finally made it back to the playoffs this past season. Even with a 4th place finish, Dalton has shown he can be a true player in the right year, but that requires an immense amount of luck to not be the unluckiest. Did that make sense? Either way, Dalton’s all-in-or-out consistency has put him just in the bottom half of legacy standings.
Self Rank and Words: Long-Standing: 4 / Drafted Team: 5
“Well, I don't think my team is as bad as others are making it out to be. However, there were certainly better drafts than mine.”
Drafted Team Score: 3.56
High: 8
Low: 2
Draft Strategy: Mr. Big Balls himself decided to forego preconceived ideas of draft meta and went with something no one else has yet tried. Three years into the SuperFlex rule change and this year brings not only the first time a QB goes in the first round, but two. Crazy enough, Dalton went balls to wall and opted for QBs with his first two picks. Lamar and Russ sure does seem like an insane duo to have one a weekly basis, the challenge then became filling out the rest of his team and that’s where we saw Dalton struggle. While his WRs came together solidly with Thielen / Gallup / Landry, it’s widely considered more difficult to fill your RB corp and starters of Le’Veon Bell and David Johnson don’t inspire. It’ll be interesting to see if Dalton’s QB super duo can lift the rest of his team, or if sketchy RBs and limited WRs hold him back.
Other Comments:
(STRENGTHS) “QBs”
(Weaknesses) “everything not his QBs”
“QBs. You gotta love the balls to try to create a new meta, and it very well might work, Lamar and Russ are excellent and should give Dalton at least a chance each week.”
“(Weaknesses).. everything else. Man are his RBs scary and WRs unexciting. There are solid players here by all means, just doesn't look great as a whole.”
“I mean he took Russ, which makes him a Bitch, but also love Russ and hes the strongest player on the team. We will see if Mr. Unlimited is allowed to cook more this year, could really carry the whole party. (Also Lamar I suppose)”
“Dawg what are thosssssssseeee points at all of your RBs
“Will finish with the best QB duo in the league (probably)”
“Wide receivers are not guaranteed volume, risky running backs that all have questionable situations, and his depth isn’t providing a safety net”
8. Jake - Long-Standing Score: 9.87 (1st)
Legacy: There wasn’t much question here, even going first-to-worst couldn’t dampen the fact that Jake is our only two-time champion. Now, there is some pressure to get back into the playoffs or at least not make the losers bracket again, as we could see a player that’s truly all-or-nothing on a year-to-year basis. But everyone has a down year at some point, Jake is more than likely to be a strong competitor as he’s proven throughout this league’s history, but a less than ideal draft will test Jake’s management ability.
Self Rank and Reflection: Long-Standing: 9 / Drafted Team: 3
“Murray, Cook, and Adams should be a fine core to completely rebuild this team around”
Drafted Team Score: 3.89
High: 7
Low: 1
Draft Strategy: Some strong select awareness as Jake ranked himself pretty much exactly as he was viewed by his peers. As I’ve said before, the benefit of doubt is strong based on how you’ve performed before, so when someone as well respected as Jake is consensus voted bottom three… you know he messed up. Jake also knew he messed up. There is a solid core of good players here and as always, the shaking and moving of trades and FA can easily boost Jake into the playoffs if he gets some help from his sleepers, but his mid-round blunders really did a number on his bench. Dalvin Cook / Davante Adams / Kyler Murray is a nice and balanced core to build around and in these cases it’s a bit nicer to shoot shots wherever to build your team. But a bad joke accidentally turned into Kendrick Bourne in which Trent promptly replied “...who??”. He may be the 49ers WR1, but not a good use of a 7th round pick anyway. This season we’ll see what we get, 1st in the long run Jake, or 8th in best draft Jake.
Other comments:
“We can dog on him for the double mess up, but if we ignore that Jake seriously has a well built foundation for his team. He will happily build a home upon it, me thinks”
“Two accidents in the biggest draft of the year comoonnn”
“KYLER!! Also love your WR upside/ depth! RB sitch has potential to be great, but I think the floor is just below where you want it to be (prove me wrong though, i love me some MGIII highlights!)”
“Not the biggest fan of your QB2/3 and your RBs also run thin as mentioned above. Gotta make some moves this year Jake! lets see it!”
“He has a stellar sense of humor and Also I think Kyler Murray could really have a standout year. Gotta keep that eye on Dalvin Cook, and hes got two 1st round picks in Cook and Lockett”
“...It’s Kendrick Bourne BITCH”
“Oh my God it’s Kendrick Bourne!”
7. Nick - Long-Standing Score: 5.5 (5th)
Legacy: The Co-Commish that couldn’t. Fifth may seem a tad low however I think it may be fitting. With so many consistent contenders in the league and the random burst years of others, Nick generally has a strong team to compete. Despite this, it never truly feels like Nick is a real contender. Even with the best record last year it was commonly considered he had the best team and luckiest season of the group. The opposite is true as well, when Nick has a better team in the league he can’t seem to make it over that first playoff round hump. What we have here is a player that can win any week, but can he win when it matters? He sets out to prove his consistency and maybe more going into the 7th year.
Self Rank and Words: Long-Standing: 8/ Drafted Team: 7
“I am pretty happy with my team. I think it is still early and a lot can happen between now and the championship. I went for a pretty safe team this year imo but I believe there is some upside, though I think I will need to make some moves during the season to really secure my spot in the playoffs. I was really aiming for Keenan Allen and I am pretty happy that I got him. I also really wanted Hayden Hurst but he was sniped from me unfortunately :( Am I confident?! Ya damn right I am!”
Drafted Team Score: 5.77
High: 8
Low: 4
Draft Strategy: Nick played it fairly balanced over the beginning of the draft but started out ideally by drafting two starting RBs in Josh Jacobs and Joe Mixon. A start flooceiling duo is a great start and following up with Kenny Golladay, Matt Ryan, and Carson Wentz is really solid as well. I can agree with getting your RBs early and your QBs in the mid-rounds and then getting value at WR, which he did with Keenan Allen. The depth gets pretty questionable pretty quickly, but there aren’t many holes in the starting line-up. What we see here as the problem is a lack of true upside, this is a safe team that should net a solid weekly floor, but there just doesn’t seem to be any of those blow-up week players. Time will tell.
Other Comments:
“Pretty balanced team, decent depth, but nothing super exciting”
“Really not high on his draft. It looks like every position he has is just... Super average”
“Good depth. Safe starting lineup, with potential to pop off and be top 10 players imo.”
“Also in line with his strength, I don't really see any breakout star players on this roster. Perhaps a by product of having one of the worse draft positions this year, its hard to draft in the 6-8th position”
“personally I see a lack of upside in most of these guys. Should be reliable floor players, but I don't see any excellent breakout guys at this moment.”
“Love the safety and balance of this team, which is the opposite of what Nick had last year. Really quality players at every position in good situations, and solid depth.”
“Feels like he will retain 0 of his players outside his starting 2 from each position”
“This team seems very average everywhere, which makes me feel like he has a very high floor. In fantasy this can win you alot of weeks, so if one or two players can breakout this could put the team over the hill”
6. Trent - Long-Standing Score: 4.38 (7th)
Legacy: Often considered another football boi in the group, Trent’s history in the WTBB Upton Bowl has been one of underachievement. Usually going into the season he’s seen as someone with a solid team and the football IQ to nurture and develop his squad. Instead Trent is inconsistent in-season as it gets and either never gets it going, or flames out after a hot streak. Only one Upton Bowl appearance and loss that came way back in the inaugural season, Trent’s lack of championship appearance and noise in the postseason leads to a less than ideal impression from the rest of the league.
“CEH, kyler got sniped and i'm feeling pretty good!”
Drafted Team Score: 5.88
High: 9
Low: 2
Draft Strategy: Trent says fuck balance and goes with the THREE RB stack to start his draft. I personally don’t go for the stacks because I’m scared, but I love to see it when Trent and Dalton take the big plays and solidify a position. Derrick Henry, CEH, Aaron Jones is an excellent collection of floor and upside. Mike Evans falling to the 4th was a steal. Trent’s strategy mostly appeared to be one of runs, using 4 of the next 6 picks on WRs, then using rounds 11-14 to pick up an extra pair of QBs and TEs.
Other Comments:
“RBs are an incredible mix of upside (CEH) and Floor (Henry) and a guy right in-between (Jones). Evans falling to be his WR1 when he went three first RBs is a great stroke of luck. Great upside WR depth as well”
“Could work on his fly fishing, haven't seen anything good out of him yet this season”
“He owns a farm where he breeds rb1s, but they also have a side business in growing value wide receivers”
“Derrick Henry and Mike Evans, scary scary. Also knows how to blow a mad vape cloud”
“He’s buying second hand tight ends from craigslist”
“RBs for days omg (fuck the packers) but aaron jones at the end of the third wow. Evans fuller ruggs is a nawsty trio if the upside is there. Staffy 5k season? I think yeahhhh boiiiiii, luv it”
“His loyalty :P cmon dawg you really gonna take my TE after I tell you I wanted him smh fawk. For real though I think your QB2 spot is up in the air and even though I like your WRs the WR2 spot is also a question.”
“QB2 and depth, risky TE.”
(Strength) “CEH I guess ?”
(Weakness) “CEH”
5. Justin - Long-Standing Score: 2.33 (9th)
Legacy: well he’s here
Self Rank and Words: 10
“”
Drafted Team Score: 6
High: 10
Low: 2
Draft Strategy: Picking at the late turn is always interesting, picking the leftovers and then starting a run yourself. Justin began his first Upton Bowl draft with the slam dunk of CMC, and went balanced, though differently than the rest.. Going WR (Hill) then TE (Kelce). Doubling up on THE two Chiefs options while also playing into the new TE Premium seemed like excellent value. An almost entirely balanced draft switching between RB and WR between every QB, he opted to go middle-heavy at QB and selected three solid options in the 5th-9th rounds. This was a pretty solid, safe, non boat-rocking draft so it seems to be the matter of management that’ll decide Justin’s success this season.
Other Comments:
“Fuck off mason how am I supposed to rank Justin's "long standing" play Come on man- Also Justin has a decently well rounded team too like this is not a bad roster”
“Rock solid, great RB depth, good starting WRs, love the flooceiling mix, but top-heavy team.”
“I think his depth is super weak and will cuck him, I'm also personally not high on Brees, so kindof biased tbh”
“I do think this is the best overall team* with the caveat that everyone on it is able to stay healthy. CMC seems like a powerhouse, but with the type of use he gets it's just a hope that he manages to maintain the same level of play from last year. Breesy is also getting somewhat older and after some injuries last season hopefully he comes back in full force this year. Tyreek and Brown also seem like Boom/Bust options but with huge cielings. Finally you got Kelce down there in a TE premium year. This could be a scary team”
“In relation to his strengths, I think this team also has lots of bust potential. We just have to hope this team doesn't get too busty on Justin though, as that would likely be his least favorite busty area of his life.”
“He’s never actually met Kate Upton”
“CMC duh. Kelce duh. Dobbins and Breida are great sleepers. Tyreek and kelce together could be pre dirty I hope it works out for you! Welcome to the league!”
“No ceiling, we’ve removed the roof from his team”
“Your biggest weakness imo is your QBs and your WR2 option, I have had Woods a few years now and he is the definition of boom or bust (though I like his upside more this year than in the past)”
4. Chris - Long-Standing Score: 7.63 (3rd)
Legacy: Chris has been a bit of an anomaly. Rarely down or out, Chris tends to hover around league average and either power his way into the playoffs or fall just short. An Inaugural Upton Bowl win tends to leave a good impression on most but seven years now removed and without another appearance to his name leaves us wondering if that win was a fluke? Especially considering half the league is different and the rules have changed substantially. Well there is no asterisk next to that win and Chris is generally fielding an above-average squad and is known for his waiver talent acquiring abilities. Stubbornness and so-so drafts usually put him a tad behind, only to be salvaged with FA pickups or trades, so perhaps Chris is a really good draft away from another Upton Bowl appearance. He’s ranked well for now, but a serious playoff run or failure of a season could have him climbing or falling on the rankings.
Self Rank and Reflection: Long-Standing: 9 / Drafted Team: 10
“great”
Drafted Team Score: 6.33
High: 10
Low: 4
Draft Strategy: The shock of the draft came when Chris set a new precedent with the selection of QB Patrick Mahomes with the 5th overall pick. Not only was this new to the league, but a surprising acquisition from Chris himself who never valued the QB position in fantasy or Madden. This pick may show that Chris is working out of his stubbornness and learning from his mistakes. With a QB1 locked up he proceeded to alternate filling out his RB/WR corp landing talents of Nick Chubb, Chris Godwin, Cooper Kupp, Mark Ingram and Tyler Boyd. The wait on grabbing a TE and QB2 withstanding, the rest of the league appreciated the bold tendency breaker and liked his picks at WRB as well as the depth to fill out those positions. Depth may be thin at QB/TE but there’s not much to pick at elsewhere.
Other Comments:
“I think that the wombo combo strong QB and WR play is solid. His Backs are also pretty solid and I think this is easily an above average team. He's slated to lose week one but thats only because he's playing what I think is the top team”
“Almost too safe?? QB2/SFLEX will be interesting, and I don't love the upside of most of his core.”
“Chris with the first round QB wtf I love it. way to make a statement bud. You have a very solid floor with nice upside and solid depth especially after you got minshew over tannehill. Good draft my dude”
“Not excited about everyone except Mahomes tbh”
“Love the balance. Shocking the world and going Patty in the first, which goes against everything Chris stands for in football games. But here we are. And matching it with Nick Chubb and Chris Godwin, then filling in with solid #2s. Great WR depth too.”
(Weakness) “None that are super visible”
“Your TEs are looking a bit weak, but besides that I like your team a lot!”
“Except his QB2 where he will now start the yearly Chris QB streaming the 17th best QB from the previous week”
3. Marcus - Long-Standing Score: 8 (2nd)
Legacy: Marcus has made a strong impression in his short time as a member of the league. A decent rookie season was followed by a strong regular season and playoff appearance which parlayed into an Upton Bowl win. The ratio alone says Marcus is here to compete, but keeping up that pace should prove difficult. Nonetheless, winning the previous season will do well for your legacy score and he’s shown that wasn’t a one-time fluke with his performance the previous season. Still fairly young to fantasy Marcus has a bright future as a competitor in this league.
Self Rank and Reflection: Longstanding: 8 / Drafted Team: 7
“Well Julio was someone I was aiming for but never dreamed I could grab. Deshaun Watson was taken one pick before I was prepared to insta lock him in”
Drafted Team Score: 6.44
High: 9
Low: 3
Draft Strategy: That benefit of the doubt has really come in strong here as Marcus continues his streak of high power ranking standings. He is no stranger to targeting RBs early and often, but when Julio fell he had to reroute to Kenyan Drake in the 3rd. The trend of filling in his core continues as Marcus spent his first six rounds on RB/WRs going balanced between the two positions. He then goes for value and upside at the rest of his spots which resulted in Cam Newton and what became Ryan Tannehill. While he went about his process slightly differently Marcus continues the strategy that’s worked well for him so far, streaming QBs and TEs alongside Kickers and Defense and stacking his RB/WRs early. We watch closely to see if this continues to work for him.
Other Comments:
“Insane WRs and RBs and depth”
“The rest of his team suffers bc of the care given to the WRBs. A lot lays on Cam Newton, and that's not a bad bet, but you can see how thin he is at QB/TE, and is going to make tough choices at FLEX each week.”
“I think his strength is his depth. Cam Akers and Diontae Johnson are great sleepers. I think the strength of his team is his high upside.”
“I think outside of Zeke and Julio his floor is pretty low. If the upside is not there then his team may fall short. Ultimately a boom or bust team, however, Marcus is no stranger to making moves throughout the season.”
“WRB core as a whole is filled with good floor, good ceiling, and depth.”
“Lack of depth at any one position, and risky QB play. Could work on his kickflip to hit it consistently”
“Weak QBs”
2. Cory - Long-Standing Score: 3.62 (8th)
Legacy: The anti-Jake, coming in with a low legacy score but a high team draft score. The drafting of Tyler Lockett really hasn’t been lived down yet, the meme is gold and Cory hasn’t made a serious run to wash away the taste of that pick. Like Alex, Cory still generally targets ‘his guys’ and for better or (mostly) worse, we haven’t seen that jump in the standings happen quite yet. However, it’s worth noting that Cory has slowly been inching up standings on a yearly basis and has gotten away from the worst in the league status. A playoff appearance or at least a good season may wash the ‘Taco’ designation because Cory has really come into his own in fantasy prowess, but a lack of deep understanding in bench and deeper players usually bites him in the long run and in waivers.
Self Rank and Reflection: Longstanding: 6 / Team: 9
“Tyler Lockett and Wilson :( may both have breakout years and get 50 points in every week I don't play them.. not to toot my own damn horn but I think this is my best draft yet. Pretty hyped about my RB core and I think snagging Watson in the third was a steal. My WR core is likely the worst of my group, but even then I feel I got a low WR1 and high WR2 which I'm pretty excited about. Also the TE3 and what I feel is a solid flex in Sutton. I'm mainly just banking on Burrow having a breakout rookie year and this team is SET”
Drafted Team Score: 6.89
High: 10
Low: 3
Draft Strategy: Like a few others Cory filled in the thinner positions first going double RB to start the draft while targeting PPR guys in Alvin Kamara and Austin Ekeler. With the third pick he went slightly bold, going Kamara over Zeke in a move that could pay off or backfire. DeShaun Watson in the third was a great compliment, so filling WRs became the next priority. Cory went for upside here with Amari Cooper and DK Metcalf while adding a solid tertiary floor receiver in Courtland Sutton, but also targeting a TE in Mark Andrews highly playing into the TE premium. This strategy was well perceived by the league, getting the premium positions early and going for upside late, however questions around his SFLEX position arose when he drafted rookie Joe Burrow and didn’t take a backup past him. Plenty of questions about how much consistency at receiver he’ll get, but a solid balanced team nonetheless with a lot of upside.
Other comments:
“Upside! I love the PPR ability of his RBs and the depth there, both starters are great flooupside guys. WRs are sketchier but there's good depth and a lot of upside.”
“Mr. Risky Receiver Randy, not a safe one in sight”
“Well rounded team, should be easy to manage”
“I think his bench is weaker than most. It's not terrible, but none are players I think I would have personally opted for”
“Strong high upside high floor RB's, A great QB and some high upside WR's. I really like this team, great draft Cory!”
“His depth... there are some sleepers I like, but ultimately Cory is going to have to make some moves this year if his starting line up is a bust.”
“I really like Cory's starting roster”
“SFLEX. Joe Burrow as his only other QB is interesting, if he breaks out quickly Cory is set, if he doesn't that spot could haunt him if he doesn't find a guy to replace him. Some Floor concerns.”
1. Mason - Long-Standing Score: 7 (4th)
Legacy: The Commish who couldn’t win. It’s one thing to be the commissioner and not win the ‘ship, but it’s another to be a football boi who still can’t. The meme is strong but it’s not from a lack of success, two Upton Bowl appearances and a few more playoffs but just can’t quite close. The respect is still there from the peers, they know I’m generally a contender to at least field a strong team. The highest ranking player without a ‘ship is still just that for now though.
Drafted Team Score: 7.44
High: 9
Low: 6
Self Rank and Reflection: Long-Standing: 8 / Drafted Team: 10
“Slightly underwhelmed, but pretty good! Was planning on stacking RBs, but didn't get the chance too, but otherwise I came out pretty balanced with my team and I can roll with that. .. Love my balance and depth, floor and upside combos.”
Draft Strategy: Stay balanced and you’ll never fall off! That wasn’t the plan going in however, but it was Cory who sniped Austin Ekeler one pick before me. With that snipe came another steal in DeAndre Hopkins who returns to my team for a second year. A Saquon / DHop / Prescott corp provides an okay floor but an incredible weekly ceiling. The surrounding pieces had to be there though, and for the most part it’s agreed the rest filled in quite nicely. TGIII at RB2 is questionable but a strong bench of upside RBs may quell that. Stefon Diggs and especially DJ Chark right behind DHop. Strong K/DST and TE picks help beyond that. Many question the depth because the upfront starters don’t have many holes, but that’s warranted. Upside RBs need to turn into producers and the WRs are thin. A healthy team should be a contender, but who makes it through the season without road bumps?
Other Comments:
“Saquon, Dak, Dhop, LOL mason you might win one this year eh?”
“Kind of a sketchy bench imo”
“The QB/WR started give a deadly flooceiling combo”
“1 great RB, WR, QB, and TE. Great depth as always, I would expect nothing less from the guy whose life is football to be able to find a good sleeper or 2. Nevertheless, you get a good score because I really like Saquan, Swift, Dhop, Dak, and TGIII. Good luck friend.”
“RB2, WR2, and QB2 are pretty much boom or bust which makes me a bit worried. However, the depth is there to back it up if it is bust.”
“(strengths) ..His 1s across the board dam”
“Drafting second you get Saquon, which I mean cmon, but I think that Mason took some lower value players in some early rounds which makes me less keen on this team. I feel there were better QB's ahead of Prescott, and that Gurley was definitely a stretch. Time will tell if he can return to his glory days form”
if you actually read the whole thing you're cooler than everyone else btw
